On Monday, the hosts of Fox & Friends asked conservative radio host Laura Ingraham for her impressions of the jury’s decision to acquit George Zimmerman of all charges relating to the killing of Trayvon Martin. Ingraham and the hosts blasted Hispanic advocacy groups for deciding to remain silent for the course of the trial.
Bill O’Reilly Doubles Down On Thumping Conservatives
“As a dog that returneth to his vomit, so is the fool that repeateth his folly.” That’s Proverbs 26:11 for a certain popular cable-news host who just returned from a nice Caribbean vacation. And, no, I’m not Bible thumping. I’m O’Reilly thumping.
On Tuesday night’s edition of The O’Reilly Factor, host Bill O’Reilly devoted the first 20 minutes of the show — and another segment later on with Charles Krauthammer — to refuting what he characterized as unfair attacks on his recent positions. And most of that time was spent defending his claim that traditionalists haven’t mounted a compelling argument against faux marriage, that all they can do is “thump the Bible.”
And even though this accusation has brought O’Reilly great criticism, he didn’t back down but doubled down. He said that his commentary was just “honest analysis”; he also said his claim is vindicated because traditionalists are losing the marriage debate, and, opined he, this wouldn’t be happening if they were mounting the better arguments. Is this honest analysis? It is in the sense that O’Reilly believes it. But it isn’t true analysis.
O’Reilly first discussed the matter with Laura Ingraham, whom I like, but both she and later guest Charles Krauthammer completely missed the point. Ingraham simply said that O’Reilly shouldn’t have used the term “thump” and that pro-marriage forces haven’t had that long to ponder the marriage issue and construct arguments (?!), while Krauthammer very articulately exhibited a grasp of the obvious and said that you’re not going to win policy debates with secularists by quoting Scripture. But the real issue is that you’re not going to win debates with anyone if you ignore your best and brightest.
Moreover, it’s not just that there are compelling marriage arguments on the right.

Thumping Bible Thumpers
Bill O’Reilly is becoming a boor. Many ‘Bible thumpers’ have appreciated his aggressive defense of certain conservative principles. But when it comes to Christianity and social issues, his temper and his ignorance make for rude and ill-advised commentary, as revealed in his recent attempt to smack down Laura Ingraham when she politely tried to get him to reconsider his insulting remarks.
He insists Christians cannot cite the Bible in making their argument against homosexual marriage. Really? So sayeth O’Reilly? If Bill chooses not to believe God’s word, or dismisses its applicability, he is free to do that. But to proclaim it is only “honest commentary” to deny others, calling them Bible thumpers if they disobey him, is the height of presumption and arrogance.
The homosexual lobby uses the term ‘Bible thumpers,’ as do any number of others in the anti-Christ enclave. O’Reilly claims to be a Christian, then gives aid and comfort to the enemies of Christians everywhere, saying his justification is that we’ll only win the argument if we engage in a secular debate. He claims we have lost the war because we refuse to do battle as he dictates.
He fails to realize there is no winning in this earthly, secular realm where he wants us to be confined. His faith apparently discounts supernatural intervention.
Homosexual activists will not stop attacks on the majority and on churches if they acquire the right to homosexual marriage. The end game—as with their ally Obama—is the complete and radical transformation of society and the destruction of religious faith and community.
In the face of such an onslaught, the faith of Bill O’Reilly tells him the most powerful force on Earth—the Word of God—-is irrelevant and impotent?
Furthermore, I too have studied and debated this issue in depth for many years. With few exceptions, the ones making the most compelling scientific and secular arguments against homosexual practice generally (and homosexual marriage specifically) are Christian activists, people not so interested in winning an argument as they are promoting the greatest good for the greatest number, in the name of love. They’ve presented peer-reviewed research showing that:
- Homosexuals suffer terrible health problems far exceeding the rest of the population
- They live shorter lives
- Rates of suicide are much higher
- They suffer more depression and other psychological problems
- Rates of ‘divorce’ and adultery are much higher
- Children in those ‘families’ are at greater risk
The loving thing to do is to dissuade people from walking the path to destruction, not accommodating it!
These are issues worthy of debate, including the issue of morality, its influence or lack thereof, and the foundations of morality in western culture, thanks to Judeo-Christian traditions. Those traditions established the ideas of inclusivity and tolerance. The Left in all its manifestations works to destroy inclusivity with rabid intolerance, a real threat to liberty, which is what this fight is really about.
Instead, O’Reilly wants us to admit defeat and bid Christians farewell.

Wise Up, Mr. O’Reilly
On Tuesday evening, Laura Ingraham was seen slouching back in her chair in an exhausted pose in response to Bill O’Reilly’s defense of the term ‘bible thumper.’ Ingraham, a regular substitute host anchor for O’Reilly, couldn’t get a word in edgewise; and when she did, it was only to state once again that the term may have offended or berated people who trust the bible.
Mr. O’Reilly is not helping the ratings, and he is not the first to knock some of the audiences off the grid. A recent announcement by Fox News’ president Roger Ailes to move Fox away from the right and back to center was the first hit to the ratings, and some sources have noted a 22 percent decline in audiences.
The second dark cloud forming in the wings is the Tea Party’s call to boycott Fox because they refuse to discuss serious matters like the Benghazi scandal and the findings of Sheriff Arpaio’s cold case posse on the fraudulent documents of President Obama. Lots of evidence and questions have been raised by the Sheriff, but not a peep has been heard by Fox and friends.
When Bill decided to call Christians who read their bibles and stand by them ‘thumpers,’ he crossed a line that even Ailes may not fully understand.
Get a proper definition, O’Reilly.
A Harvard education and a Catholic background may have insulated Mr. O’Reilly from hearing the term; but in protestant circles, it is a familiar term and not very appreciated. But we have only to check a few sources to see what the term means.

In today’s world, we don’t need a plane trip back to the ivy-covered halls of Harvard for a visit to her splendid libraries, but just a few clicks on Google to see if we are misusing a word or a common phrase. The word of the day, Mr. O’Reilly, is ‘Bible Thumper’; go look it up.

Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.) is not falling for President Barack Obama‘s so-called “charm offensive.”
Speaking with Laura Ingraham on her radio show Thursday, Inhofe sarcastically criticized his colleagues for their “good responses” to the president’s recent overtures.

Speaking to conservative radio host Laura Ingraham, Gingrich praised Trump as a “phenomenon,” before going on to say that he would be open to going on the real estate mogul’s reality TV show.
“Oh sure. I mean, why not?” Gingrich said in response to a question from Ingraham about being a participant on “Celebrity Apprentice,” a show where contestants compete for Trump’s approval on a number of business-related challenges.
