ADTRAN Delivers Revolutionary VoIP Migration Platform

NetVanta 7000 series to support both premises and cloud-based voice service models to enable greater flexibility for service providers and enterprises

HUNTSVILLE, Ala.–(BUSINESS WIRE)– ADTRAN®, Inc., (NAS: ADTN) , a leading provider of cloud connectivity, virtual mobility and enterprise communications solutions, today announced a revolutionary voice migration platform that answers market demand for multiple-voice deployment on an efficient single-solution platform. Designed for service providers and enterprises, the NetVanta® 7000 family has a new software configuration that enables deployment of premise-based PBX functions or cloud-based and hosted VoIP services all with a single hardware platform. The all-in-one design for voice, data, video, and wireless services creates business efficiency and capabilities that today’s businesses need to remain competitive.

Historically, voice deployments demanded purpose-built platforms to act as either a PBX or a gateway for cloud-based and hosted services. With the NetVanta 7100, this has changed. Now, service providers who previously deployed hosted VoIP solutions can offer alternate deployment scenarios. Those deploying premise-based PBX solutions now have the option to provide a platform that has a migration path to hosted services. By taking this approach, the service providers protect their existing investment in technology and resource support. In addition, for either hosted or premise based solutions, local survivability is supported. This provides the end users additional peace of mind when next generation communication technologies are deployed.

“Given the rapid rise of hosted and cloud-based voice service applications, as an alternative to premises-based PBX, a single hardware platform to address both introduces a new level of efficiency in scale and management to the market,” said Rob Arnold, program manager, Unified Communications and Collaboration at Frost & Sullivan. “With the new NetVanta 7000 series voice migration capability, ADTRAN is enabling their channels to easily address end-user’s needs to migrate from one type of service to another as their business demands.”

While the NetVanta 7000 series enables end-users with the ability to select different communication services and preserve network infrastructure – IP phones, switches, gateways, wireless access points – it also provides multiple benefits to service providers and the reseller channels that support these customers. Benefits for the channel include:

  • Lower inventory carrying costs – With a single SKU for either premises PBX or hosted VoIP UC, resellers are able to carry less inventory and reduce costs.

Sprint Receives Frost & Sullivan Award for Green Excellence

OVERLAND PARK, Kan.–(BUSINESS WIRE)– Global consulting and analyst firm Frost & Sullivan has awarded Sprint [NYSE:S] its 2013 North American Award for Green Excellence. Each year, Frost & Sullivan presents this award to the company that has demonstrated superior technological advancement, which is aligned with a sustainable and environmentally conscious objective within its industry sector.

“Sprint has implemented more green initiatives than any competing mobile operator in the country,” said Frost & Sullivan Mobile & Wireless Research Director Brent Iadarola. “This award recognizes Sprint for its identification of unique and revolutionary solutions while integrating sustainability into every level of its business.”

Sprint was recognized for its widespread commitment to sustainability, particularly in areas where the carrier has led the telecommunications industry by making an aggressive commitment or by being the first to address and seek solutions to specific issues. For example, Sprint’s partnership with UL Environment (ULE) produced the first environmental standard for mobile devices, ULE 110. The ULE 110 standard sets product guidelines in manufacturing and operations, performance, energy management, sustainable innovation and packaging.

Sprint was also the first – and continues to be the only – U.S. wireless carrier to outline specific commitments that address electronic waste (e-waste) holistically by focusing on the full lifecycle of the electronics it buys and sells. Its Electronics Stewardship Policy, developed with guidance from BSR, Basel Action Network and ABI Research, publicly states Sprint’s pledge to responsibly recycle electronic scrap while striving to boost equipment recycling and reuse. To date, the carrier’s groundbreaking device trade-in program, Sprint Buyback, and other wireless device recycling programs have collected more than 47 million devices while putting more than $100 million back in customers’ pockets.

Sprint has the most aggressive greenhouse gas (GHG) emission-reduction goals of any U.S. wireless carrier and was the first to publicly announce an absolute emission reduction goal. It’s more than halfway to its goal of a 20 percent absolute emission reduction by 2017, thanks in part to the introduction of more-efficient equipment as part of Network Vision, an increase in renewable energy purchases, energy efficiency improvements at its data centers and a shift to more fuel-efficient SmartWay certified fleet vehicles.

The carrier has also committed to reducing paper use by 40 percent by 2017, and has made tremendous headway on that goal thanks to innovations like its reusable, two-in-one- ecoEnvelope™. Even Sprint’s Overland Park campus – with its recycled rainwater, native wetlands and bird species and …read more

Plantronics Recognized by Frost & Sullivan with the 2013 Visionary Innovation Leadership Award

Research Reveals Plantronics has Identified and Successfully Addressed Key Mega Trends

ORLANDO, Fla.–(BUSINESS WIRE)– Plantronics (NYS: PLT) today announced that Frost & Sullivan has awarded the company a Visionary Innovation Award in recognition of the company’s accomplishments in the Unified Communications and Collaboration (UCC) and Customer-Care markets. Frost & Sullivan defines Visionary Innovation as the ability to identify key Mega Trends and proactively address unmet needs with disruptive solutions that can greatly improve business performance as well as individuals’ work and personal lives.

“Plantronics has been at the forefront of headset innovation since its inception. It has successfully aligned its product development roadmap with a number of Mega Trends and is highly deserving of Frost & Sullivan’s 2013 Visionary Innovation Leadership award,” said Elka Popova, Director, Unified Communication & Collaboration, Frost & Sullivan. “Key to Plantronics’ success is its focus on software development and contextually-aware communications that enable its devices to react based on the user’s status, availability, location, and other contextual factors.”

“This award validates our impact on unified communications and the importance of delivering products that are easy for people to use,” said Ken Kannappan, president and CEO of Plantronics. “We appreciate the recognition of the contributions we have made delivering exceptional audio and playing a critical role in improving productivity.”

According to Frost & Sullivan, Mega Trends are transformational to business, economy, society, cultures, and personal lives, thereby defining the future world and its increasing pace of change. The Mega Trends affecting UCC and Customer-Care are Connectivity and Convergence and Mobility.

Mega Trend: Connectivity and Convergence

Frost & Sullivan predicts that by 2020, there will be 10 connected devices for every household, five connected devices for every person, five billion Internet users, and 500 devices with unique digital IDs per square kilometer. Connected individuals must clearly hear each other to communicate effectively, with minimal interference and disruption to themselves and to others, regardless of their external environments. Individuals are increasingly using multiple communications and collaboration tools. They are frequently switching between communications modes and, therefore, they need to integrate multiple contact channels seamlessly through a single endpoint.
