'2 Guns' Shows The Expanding Possibilities Of Comic Book Movies

By Dorothy Pomerantz, Forbes Staff

2 Guns Review

By Scott Collura

Have I seen this movie before? I think I’ve seen this movie before.

Universal’s new action-thriller/buddy-comedy 2 Guns is the kind of picture that’s full of been-there, done-that characters, twists, and action beats that are as familiar as houseguests who have overstayed their welcome, know it, and don’t care.

Denzel Washington should know better than this. Mark Wahlberg, well… maybe not. But come on, Denzel. We expect more from you.

The pair play undercover law enforcement agents hot on the trail of a Mexican drug lord (Edward James Olmos). The trick is neither Washington’s DEA agent Robert “Bobby” Trench or Wahlberg’s Navy intelligence officer Michael “Stig” Stigman knows the other guy is secretly on the side of the law. Bobby thinks the undercover Stig is a crook and vice versa, so much confusion and comedic interplay is meant to result from this arrangement — amid the gun battles, fistfights, and car chases, of course. (That includes a memorable car chase/fistfight combo scene that is perhaps the highpoint of the film.)

Kip Pardue On ‘Mad Men’: ‘Sunshine’ From ‘Remember The Titans’ Guest Stars

By The Huffington Post News Editors

Note: Do not read on if you have not yet seen Season 6, Episode 3 of AMC’s “Mad Men,” titled “The Collaborators.”

Mad Men” specializes in surprising, nostalgic guest-casting. After “Freaks & Geeks” alum Linda Cardellini stole the show in the AMC drama’s Season 6 premiere, another early 2000s favorite had a guest appearance in the show’s third episode: Kip Pardue, who is fondly remembered as Ronnie “Sunshine” Bass, the long-haired, left-handed California quarterback in Denzel Washington‘s high-school football film “Remember The Titans.”

Pardue’s “Mad Men” guest spot had him playing a hot shot Heinz ketchup executive, who stopped by Sterling Cooper in a blue suit for an unofficial visit. While Don (Jon Hamm) and Ken Cosgrove (Aaron Staton) were excited to vie for his business, Heinz beans executive Raymond Geiger (John Sloman) made it clear that the visit was just for show. Still, word got back to Peggy that Heinz was potentially up for his grabs, and her new boss Ted Chaough (Kevin Rahm) pushed her to compete for the business, so Pardue could very well turn up again later this season.

Drive Director Circles Denzel’s Equalizer

Nicolas Winding Refn (Drive) is currently in talks to helm Sony’s feature adaptation of The Equalizer, starring Denzel Washington.
According to Variety, the director has only received an offer from the studio, but negotiations are expected to begin shortly. Sony is currently aiming for a production start in late spring of next year and hopes to produce the film with a moderate budget of $50 to $60 million. This makes Refn a solid candidate for the job, having created Drive for only $15 million (the film went on to pull in $70 million at the worldwide box office).
Based on the 1980s television series, The Equalizer centers on a former covert operative who despises injustice and fights for those who can’t. Michael Sloan and Richard Lindheim created the original show, which starred Edward Woodward.
