Drive director Nicolas Winding Refn won’t helm the big screen version of The Equalizer after all.
According to Collider, “Sony was close to closing a deal with Refn,
the deal fell apart at the last minute due to unknown reasons.”
The studio reportedly remains keen on the film, which will star Denzel Washington, making its May start date and is looking for a director to replace Refn. No word if previous contenders Pierre Morel (Taken), Gavin O’Connor (Warrior) and Gareth Evans (The Raid: Redemption) are among those the studio’s reaching out to now. Richard Wenk (The Expendables 2) scripted. Escape Artists will produce.
