To Partner Or Not To Partner? This Is The Answer.
By Amanda Neville, Contributor
Last week I met an impressive serial entrepreneur with more partnership notches in his belt than I could count. I listened with fascination as he described ventures that went south because of interpersonal conflict—despite business models that worked, satisfying work and happy clients. I asked if he was now, finally, done with partners. Like a hopeless romantic, he optimistically replied that he’d give it another go if the right person came along. …read more

Livestrong Tattoos, Kardashian Fashion, Brangelina Wine: Using a Celebrity Brand to Define Your Own
By Marian Salzman, Contributor
Last weekend, I came across an interesting article in The New York Times about people who had Livestrong tattoos and how they felt about them now. The upshot is that most of them—at least most of the people quoted in the article—don’t have a great deal of regret. They got the tattoo to commemorate their own or a loved one’s battle with cancer, not to show their admiration for an individual athlete. And a doping scandal, no matter how damaging to Lance Armstrong’s personal brand, isn’t going to change how any of them feels about cancer. …read more

A Tribute to a Family Business Legend, Dr. Leon Danco
Last week our country lost a true friend, leader and mentor, Dr. Leon Danco. Considered the nation’s foremost authority on family-owned business and privately-held companies, Dr. Danco was a pioneer in this field. He founded family-business studies and dedicated over 50 years to understanding the unique dynamics, issues and opportunities of family and the family business. He was a speaker, consultant and author of many books on this subject, including Beyond Survival: A guide for the Business Owner and His Family. But, he is most well known for his sage mentorship of families and individuals, instilling in them the importance of a transformative principle: take care of the family business, as well as “the business of the family.” With this counsel, he helped business owners to salvage relationships, create healthy families, and prosperous organizations. …read more

Senate Democrats Agree To Revive The Buffett Rule. In Other News, Golden Corral Patrons Agree That Buffets Rule.
Last week, I noted that President Obama and other leading Democrats do not want scheduled mandatory spending cuts — which were originally set to take effect on January 1, 2013 before being delayed for two months by the fiscal cliff negotiations – to kick in as scheduled, lest the reduced spending provide an additional hurdle to a still-suffering economy. Rather, the President wishes to postpone the cuts until 2014, and pay for the deferment with a mix of alternatively-targeted spending reductions (read: less defense, more agriculture) and additional tax increases. …read more

Some Unanswered Questions On Iran
Last week, former Nebraska Senator Chuck Hagel went before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee for a formal vetting to be the next Secretary of Defense. As expected, the hearing was acrimonious, in large part because of Hagel’s controversial views on issues such as the Iraq “surge,” Israel and nuclear disarmament. Hagel’s numerous stumbles on those topics, and others, were bad enough to significantly chill support for his candidacy among lawmakers. Still, unless the current controversy over the Senator’s finances ends up torpedoing his bid for the office, the political math on Capitol Hill suggests that there’s still a very good chance that he will end up as the next Defense Secretary. …read more

Drivers have the choice of charging their vehicles at one of two Level 2 (just over 6 kW) charging stations, or a Level 3 (50 kW) charger. …read more
