'Call of Juarez: Gunslinger' Reveal Trailer Muses on Freedom

By Jen Bosier, Contributor

Last week, Ubisoft released an austere teaser for “Call of Juarez: Gunslinger,” which confirmed the series would be returning to its Western roots. Game protagonist Silas Greaves spends most of the trailer musing on freedom and the power of being the fastest gun. In case this is too subtle for you, he also spends the majority of the trailer demonstrating his prowess with the gun. …read more

The Journalist And The PR Pro: A Broken Marriage?

By Peter Himler, Contributor

Last week my former Associated Press client Tori Ekstrand invited me to speak at the School of Journalism & Mass Communication at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. After a two–hour snow delay in New York, I finally made my way to the Freedom Forum Center on campus where Tori, now an assistant professor, and a handful of her undergraduate students gathered to hear my point-of-view on the evolution of the communications industries. …read more

Projected EPL Table With 9.5 Matches To Go

By Zach Slaton, Contributor

Last week saw only six of the ten scheduled matches contested within the Premier League due to a number of FA Cup ties.  Perhaps the title of this post should have been 9.6 matches to go for it to be technically correct, but 9.5 makes for a much more recognizable number.  The point is that we’re now into the business end of the season when fixture congestion due to the conclusion of multiple extra-league tournaments wreaks havoc on league schedules and can make understanding the likely outcome of the season just a bit more difficult.  Last weekend’s action is a bit simpler to understand given the concentration of idle teams in the upper half of the table.  Of the eight teams who didn’t play their scheduled fixtures , four of them occupied the top five positions within the league while all but one of them were in the top 11 positions.  Thus, the bulk of the changes in likely table position come season’s end are found in the bottom half of the table. …read more

Are You Wasting Money Like Congress? 7 Questions to Ask Yourself

By Erik Carter, Contributor Last week, I wrote about how you can use your own “sequester” strategy to better manage your money by forcing you to live within your means. However, we’re now hearing stories of White House tours shutting down and harmful or unwise spending cuts caused by the federal budget sequester. For example, cuts to the IRS could lead to more lost revenue from uncollected taxes and cuts in vaccines could produce more expensive health costs to the government down the line. …read more

The Real Reason Women Aren't Leaning In

By Jan Bruce, Contributor Last weekend in the midst of reading the buzz about Sheryl Sandberg’s much-lauded Lean In, I caught Chris Anderson’s SXSW interview with Elon Musk, founder of Tesla Motors. When asked about work-life balance, Musk made it clear that he doesn’t have much, and also doesn’t suffer guilt about not seeing his kids much and working when with them. …read more

Did You Really Pay For Your Medicare Benefits?

By Mark Hendrickson, Contributor

Last summer, Barack Obama riled a lot of entrepreneurs when he got carried away at a campaign event and told any American who had built up a successful enterprise, “you didn’t build that.” An even greater backlash awaits any politician who dares to tell Medicare recipients, “You didn’t pay for that”—for there are far more seniors than entrepreneurs in our country. …read more

How To Build A Top Quality Classical Music Library For $100

By Jens F. Laurson and George Pieler, Contributor

Last week, we wrote a column (“Two Cents About Classical Music For $100”) on some of the market– and technology-changes that affect this still growing, more-important-than-you-think niche in 21st century entertainment: classical music. The idea of building a classical music starter kit for $100 means we have to define price in an age where the very media of music consumption are in a permanent state of change. It also raises the question of what ownership of digital files actually means. We tackle some of these questions in upcoming columns, but first we present “the list.” …read more

Power, Absolute: 'Injustice: Gods Among Us #8' Review

By Jen Bosier, Contributor

Last week’s issue of “Injustice: Gods Among Us” left me a little cold, which was remarkable considering how well the series had been going up until that point. Admittedly, my own personal distaste of Mirror Master as a villain fed into this, but my primary concern was that the series would quickly become the Superman Show with other characters appearing as catalysts and foils. I ended my review saying I trusted Tom Taylor and I’m pleased to say that “Injustice: Gods Among Us #8” rewarded that trust in a big way. …read more

Last week’s article had an overwhelming response which made me feel grateful that I am able to connect with so many of you on the issues that we share.  But it also got me thinking about the flip side of things – those times when you don’t feel so connected and you feel like you are being rejected. …read more
