By Greg McNeal, Contributor Last night, NBC News posted a 16 page Department of Justice “white paper” detailing the lawfulness of killing a U.S. citizen member of al Qaeda. For those who follow these matters closely, there were not very many surprises although seeing some of the government‘s reasoning in condensed in one place is a helpful development. Below I’ve highlighted what I think are the six key points to take note of.

How Will The U.S. Army Address the Mental Health Crisis In Soldiers and Veterans?
By Alice G. Walton, Contributor Last week the VA office released a report finding that 22 U.S. veterans committed suicide each day in 2010, which works out to just under one suicide per hour, a disturbing number by any account. And last month, the number of suicides of active duty soldiers again rose above the number who died in war, numbering 349, which is almost one per day. Some have pointed out that this reversal is partly because troops have pulled out of Iraq, and the war in Afghanistan is nearing its end. But the suicide rate among veterans is still disturbingly high, and it points to the ubiquity of mental health problems that come of war – and the fact that they do not abate with time alone.

Atmospherics and Surprising Hits: 'Dishonored' Original Game Soundtrack Review
By Jen Bosier, Contributor Last year, Arkane Studios’ “Dishonored” was a love letter to fans of the stealth genre. Set in the steampunk (or whale punk, as Harvey Smith once described it) world of Dunwall, gamers assumed the role of Corvo Attano, legendary bodyguard to the Empress. After being wrongfully accused of her murder, Corvo sets upon a tale of revenge and, depending on how you played, murder, through the rat-infested streets.

Axe's Super Bowl Ad Fail: When Sexism Doesn't Sell
By Maha Atal, Contributor Last night, during the Super Bowl, I watched the ad for Axe, the men’s grooming line. It featured a young woman saved from a shark by a handsome lifeguard, who subsequently ditches that lifeguard when a (male) astronaut turns up. “Nothing beats an astronaut,” the ad concludes.

Yes Virginia, There Is A Constitutional Monetary Unit
By Ralph Benko, Contributor Last week, the Virginia House of Delegates Rules Committee passed, by an 11 – 1 bipartisan majority, a bill to establish “a joint subcommittee to study the feasibility of a United States monetary unit based on a metallic standard, in keeping with the constitutional precepts and our nation’s founding principles….” Such a study could prove to be a very big deal indeed.

What Really Happens When You Drop Out Of School To Start Up: 4 Lessons
By Young Entrepreneur Council, Contributor Last summer, I wrote a post called “Why I Didn’t Get A Real Job” that got a lot of attention. Admittedly, it was a childish reaction to a relative’s assertion that I needed to go get a “real job.” After a few months of full-time entrepreneurship that same summer, I thought I was finally experiencing “the startup life.” Twenty-four-hour hackathons, no set hours, no boss — “Oh yeah!” I’d say, “let’s disrupt stuff!”

Mixture of Madness: 'Injustice: Gods Among Us #3' Review
By Jen Bosier, Contributor Last week, Tom Taylor dropped a doozy on us in “Injustice: Gods Among Us” Issue #2. It was the type of reveal that could, potentially, sit poorly with fans, depending on your feelings toward a certain character/story arc within the Superman mythos. If you were worried about how that last panel would play out in this week’s issue, worry not, friends. This week, Taylor has officially removed the gloves.

Black Flag And The Reality Of Band Reunions
By Leor Galil, Contributor Last week iconic L.A. hardcore-punk band Black Flag announced it would reunite–twice over. Early last Friday metal blog Invisible Oranges broke the news that Black Flag founding member and guitarist Greg Ginn would reunite his band to perform at Hevy Fest in the U.K., and a short time later Pitchfork announced that another iteration of that group would begin touring as “Flag.” The New York Times’ “Arts Beat” has the breakdown on who is involved in Ginn’s Black Flag and who is playing in Flag: Black Flag’s latest configuration will employ Ron Reyes as the lead singer and Gregory Moore on drums, Mr. Ginn announced. Mr. Reyes was the lead singer for the band for about a year in the late 1970s; Mr. Moore collaborated with Mr. Ginn in the 1980s in another band, Gone.

6 Lessons the Los Angeles Lakers Recent Hardship Can Teach Us About Leadership
By Glenn Llopis, Contributor Last week I wrote about what the NFL can teach corporations about diversity management. The sports theme got me thinking about the Los Angeles Lakers and how they provide one of the most unique leadership case studies in recent professional sports history. Touted as a pre-season favorite to represent the Western Conference in the NBA Finals after acquiring Steve Nash and Dwight Howard in the off-season, the Lakers have embarrassed themselves and their fans by displaying poor leadership, resulting in a record of 19-25 (winning percentage of .432). Whether you are a Lakers fan or not, observe their recent catastrophic collapse and you will see lessons in leadership, team management and how the best laid plans can backfire.

New Red Flags Related to Tampa Firefighters and Police Pension "Audited" Financials
By Edward "Ted" Siedle, Contributor Last week I wrote about the many red flags I had spotted relating to the $1.6 billion Tampa Firefighters and Police Pension and the need for a forensic investigation. Among other issues I identified concerning the management and performance of the fund, I indicated that the pension displayed on its website financial statements that were unaudited– mere “compilations” prepared by a local accounting firm that was not independent of the fund.

Apparently, remote-controlled things are “a thing” now, as Ubisoft has revealed the Collector’s Edition for “Splinter Cell: Blacklist” will feature an R/C Paladin airplane. The airplane will be the same as that featured in Sam Fisher‘s latest adventure.
