Fashion Icon Minnie Mouse Lands Love Magazine's Latest Cover

If imitation is the highest form of flattery, then Minnie Mouse should feel very flattered by the covers of Love Magazine‘s fifth anniversary issue.

“As work began on this issue, that famous Herb Ritts shot of Madonna popped up on my Instagram feed, the one where she’s in bed wearing the Minnie Mouse ears,” said Love editor Katie Grand. “So we set about getting my favorite models in Minnie Mouse ears. . . . But that wasn’t enough. We had to get Minnie Mouse herself in on the act too.”

The end result is six covers that feature Minnie Mouse and models Cara Delevingne, Georgia May Jagger, Edie Campbell, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, and Chiharu Okunugi. Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott photographed them wearing mouse-ear headbands created by the likes of Gucci, Miu Miu, Loewe, and Marc by Marc Jacobs.

Cara Delevingne and “wifey” Rita Ora may have hit a rough patch, which is sad for them but also for us, who will no longer reap the benefit of their stylish and hilarious stream of Instagrams. From behind-the-scenes Fashion Week snaps to shots from inside the Met Gala, these BFFs-no-more gave us plenty to remember them by should this be the end of one of our favorite fashion duos.

Inside the Karl Lagefeld Edition of Monaco's Annual Rose Ball

Princesses and supermodels alike celebrated Monaco‘s annual Rose Ball this weekend, helped along by a little creative direction from The Kaiser himself. At the request of Monaco‘s Princess Caroline, Lagerfeld dreamed up Belle Epoque decor for the event, which celebrated the 150th anniversary of the company that owns many of the casinos in the principality, the Société des Bains de Mer.

That meant an illustrated backdrop featuring a woman in a turn-of-the-20th-century-style dress complete with a corset and a feathered hat, menus with even more of Lagerfeld’s drawings, and a costume for singer Rita Ora.

Cara Delevingne – dressed in Chanel Couture – dined with Princess Charlene and Prince Albert II of Monaco, and Lagerfeld had a choice seat next to Princess Caroline. Antoine Arnault also attended the event – along with his girlfriend, Natalia Vodianova – clad in head-to-toe Dior. The Aussie looked gorgeous in her white Louis Vuitton minidress — the very same one a leggy Cara Delevingne modeled on the spring 2013 runway. And if all she had to do was walk a few yards in the number, Naomi would’ve done the look justice. But, alas, she had to sit.

The short hemline forced Ms. Watts to keep her hands firmly clasped between her legs the moment she took her front row seat. Sound like a familiar scene? If you remember, Pippa Middleton had a similar problem when she attended the Spring 2012 Temperley London runway in her own fate-tempting mini.

Hedi Slimane is in a grunge state of mind for Fall 2013. With a booming soundtrack by Thee Oh Sees, models (Hanne Gaby Odile, Lindsey Wixson, Cara Delevingne) hit the runway in barely-there tartan plaid and floral- sequined babydoll dresses, many of which were topped with open flannel shirts or cozy Fair Isle cardigans. But don’t go thinking that Slimane has lost his rocker edge; there was still plenty of that. Leather was a predominant motif in the collection; it came in the form of slashed leggings, soft peacoats, and a flurry of sexy minidresses that closed the show. The classic YSL motifs were still there – a bow at the neck, fur chubbies, the Smoking tuxedo jacket – just shot through with a distinct edge. No flou in this lean collection; just story telling and the craftsmanship that the house is known for.

Imagine what the patrons of a glamorous ’40s-era Parisian jazz club would wear, and you’re not far off from the Fall 2013 collection from DSquared2. Designers Dean and Dan Caten sent out a series of looks that ran the gamut from masculine (Cara Delevingne walked the runway in a double-breasted suit with full-cut trousers) to ultrafeminine, like the silk gown trimmed in ostrich feathers that opened the show.

As if that doesn’t sound luxurious enough, a fur coat in oxblood came down the runway with blue leather trousers and a bejeweled clutch, while other suits in the collection were studded with colorful brooches. But what really sent the show over the top and got tongues wagging were the rhinestone-spangled cigarette extenders a few models carried on their walks. And what better way to declare that your collection is truly smoking?

Cara Delevingne and Jourdan Dunn Do the Harlem Shake

It was only a matter of time before someone in the fashion industry made a response to the Internet’s latest dance video craze, the Harlem Shake – and who better suited for the task than model friends Jourdan Dunn and Cara Delevingne?

The duo were backstage at the Topshop Unique show on Sunday with fellow model Rosie Tapner when cameras captured Dunn, following the meme’s custom, breaking into a spontaneous dance to the Baauer song “Harlem Shake.” Delevingne and Tapner don’t seem particularly amused to be in the middle of a dance party until they suddenly join in on the fun.

Iterations of the Harlem Shake video have come from the campuses of West Point and the University of Texas, to the offices of BuzzFeed and Anderson Cooper Live. Given how much the industry likes its memes, we’re a little surprised it took this long for someone to make a version, but we’re excited to see the ones that follow it. Your move, Alber.

Big hair, big prints, and big ’70s style was the name of the game at the Marc by scheduling switcheroo – Cara Delevingne, Lindsey Wixson, and their band of wild-maned cohorts marched to the thumping beat of Tame Impala’s “Elephant.” It was a high-energy, leg-tapping scene, one that was made all the more fun thanks to the vivid Brady Bunch prints and gleaming gem-tone silks the designer sent down his runway. Slim-cut crew-neck t-shirt blouses paired with wide-legged cropped pants or high-waisted secretary skirts gave a laid-back working girl vibe, while oversized a-line midi coats layered cheekily over supershiny minidresses lent a Jodi Foster in Taxi Driver feel.

A Look at the '90s Spirit of DKNY That Opening Ceremony Is Bringing Back

If there was even a shadow of a doubt about the return of the ’90s, Opening Ceremony‘s new project with DKNY should obliterate it.

The retailer will reissue 15 of DKNY‘s archival pieces from the early ’90s, including t-shirts screen printed with the New York skyline and the DKNY logo, a colorblocked jumpsuit, and a cropped puffer jacket. The garments will be available in Opening Ceremony boutiques and on its website this Friday, priced between $145 and $665.

“DKNY was a pioneer of streetwear fashion in the Nineties,” said Opening Ceremony‘s Carol Lim in an interview with WWD. “We have been longtime fans of the brand and were very excited to bring back select, quintessential styles that feel fresh even today.”

That freshness may owe a debt to the overall comeback of the ’90s in fashion and in culture. MTV resurrected its groundbreaking TV show House of Style in August, and the cult brand X-Girl announced that it would return to the US just this week. When you factor in the resurgence of grunge on the Spring 2013 runways – articulated in the mix of plaid and florals shown by designers like Phillip Lim and Dries Van Noten – there’s no doubting that the dream of the ’90s really is alive.

That said, part of the target demographic for this collaboration – including the star of its campaign, Cara Delevingne, born in 1992 – probably weren’t wearing adult-size clothing when these garments were first introduced. For those readers who don’t remember the spirit of Karan’s ’90s designs – or who just want to take a trip down memory lane – a look back at some of DKNY‘s ad campaigns from the ’90s, here in the gallery.
