Recognizing Stan Musial Is More Than Just A Christian Act

By Judy B. Lloyd

I am a devout Major League Baseball fan. I love the game. My son has played Little League since he was four years old, and I used to live very close to the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown.

I think I own most all of the great baseball movies: Bull Durham, For Love of the Game, Major League, The Sandlot, and The Rookie.

Being a devoted fan, I understand the value of the streak, baseball rituals, and what makes great players exceptional in the Major Leagues. Part of that is the ritual itself.

Stan Musial is in an elite group of baseball greats elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York. His passing this January was a huge blow to the City of St. Louis and his fans nationwide.

Musial, a devout Christian, was remembered recently by a grounds keeper at the St. Louis stadium who etched a cross and Musial’s #6 onto pitcher’s mound before every game.  Apparently one fan complained:

“Stan the Man,” a deeply spiritual and devout Christian, passed away in January. As a tribute to Musial, a few weeks ago a grounds-crew member began etching the cross and Musial’s number, 6, onto the pitcher’s mound before every game. (One fan complained that the “6″ too closely resembled the Christian icthys symbol.)

Last week, Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak ordered that the markings be removed, explaining that he learned of the practice from a newspaper story. Mozeliak told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, “It’s just not club policy to be putting religious symbols on the playing field or throughout the ballpark. I didn’t ask for the reason behind it. I just asked for it to stop.”

Read the rest here.

Interestingly, the St. Louis Cardinals held their “Christian Day” bringing together people of faith last week on July 6th.

In my mind, St. Louis Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak went too far in appeasing one fan in the name of “political correctness”. What’s wrong with a groundskeeper remembering his boyhood hero? And why take action the same week that your franchise is recognizing Christians?

In contrast, today in St. Louis, the “Stan Musial Memorial Bridge” became official when Gov. Jay Nixon signed legislation approving it.

Since the bridge is shared between the States of Illinois and Missouri, federal legislation is pending signature by the President which would rename the bridge the “Stan Musial Veterans Memorial Bridge” to honor our military. This was the result of a bipartisan compromise byIllinois Congressman Rodney Davis (R-IL) and several other Members of Congress.

Seeing all of these acts in the same week made me think that being “PC” (as in “politically correct”) has definitely made otherwise smart people go a little bonkers as they try to appease finger-pointers who are religiously intolerant.

This is what Dr. Ben Carson, now a Washington Times columnist, said in this article about submitting to “political correctness” –

Conservative Star Nixes Grad Speech Amid Gay Marriage Storm

By Matt Cantor Neurosurgeon and conservative rising star Ben Carson is complying with student demands and stepping down as commencement speaker at Johns Hopkins medical school, where he works. Students launched a petition after Carson’s comments regarding gay marriage, bestiality, and pedophilia. “Given all the national media surrounding my statements as to my…

Dr Carson Should Deliver The Commencement At Johns Hopkins

By John Careccia

Some Johns Hopkins students are campaigning to have Dr. Ben Carson pulled from this year’s commencement speaker line-up. They are angry about the comments the well-known neurosurgeon, made about same sex marriage. Carson has since apologized for having offended anyone and indicated he might withdraw from the commencement role. That would be a shame. The students could certainly benefit from what this self made alumnus has to say.

Dr. Carson, who rocketed to political fame after simply and eloquently pointing out the weaknesses of President Obama’s divisive policies during the National Prayer Breakfast, which Obama attended, made the same sex marriage comments on Fox News Tuesday night.
Host Sean Hannity asked Carson his opinion on same-sex marriage, given the Supreme Court’s consideration of two gay (same-sex) marriage cases this week.

Carson said I believe “Marriage is between a man and a woman. It’s a well-established, fundamental pillar of society and no group, be they gays, be they NAMBLA, be they people who believe in bestiality — it doesn’t matter what they are, they don’t get to change the definition.” Now that is what he said. How can anyone disagree with the logic and truth imparted by his statement.

Since the Middle Ages the term Marriage is reserved to a man and woman joining together as a unit. The word marriage has been used since Ancient Rome to describe the union of man and woman. It has always referred to the mutual consent of a man and a woman to wed (form a union). The term marriage is synonymous with another word wedlock which was also used in the Middle Ages in conjunction with Matrimony.

The Miriam Webster Dictionary defines the word marriage as a union of 2 people of the opposite sex. It does not say 3 people or 2 people of the same sex. It specifically says 2 people of the opposite sex. The only recognized source that even mentions the possibility of same-sex marriage is “Psychology Today”, a magazine. So where is Dr Carson wrong. He is not wrong, but the students have been indoctrinated to believe that homosexual activity is a good life style and is widely accepted. Today is a snapshot in history. Gay acceptance is being driven by the homosexual lobby and money in Washington DC. That is why Obama and other Liberal Progressives have evolved to accept same-sex marriage.

The Liberal oriented Health and Human Rights Student Group on Campus began circulating a petition, linked out of its Facebook page, challenging Dr. Carson’s selection as the 2013 commencement speaker for the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. That is the fallacy of the social media. Comments, opinions devoid of fact are foisted on the internet as fact. These students accused Carson of effectively comparing “gay relationships with pedophilia and bestiality.” Of course that is their slanted view. However, in many ways Dr. Carson is right. The students can’t see the forest for …read more

Dr. Carson Is A Man Of Honor

By John Careccia

There are many successful liberals, so why do so many of them wish to subsidize failure for the poor instead of showing them how to succeed? Is it because they need the poor and downtrodden to remain that way so that they can get the victims to vote the way they want them to? Once the insidious specter of welfare is introduced, many people on the cusp of poverty are encouraged to stay there so they can keep on collecting the benefits that can amount to more than $80,000 in some cases. Not bad if you can get it.

Dr. Ben Carson is one example of someone who pulled himself out of poverty. Dr. Carson, the renowned neurosurgeon at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Md., is enjoying a surprising celebrity status unrelated to his profession for speaking his mind at a public forum. He simply said that individuals and the nation might succeed if more Americans were less dependent on government assistance. He made that statement at the nation’s recent Prayer Breakfast with President Obama sitting to his left. The president was not happy with his comments. But since Dr. Carson did not have a teleprompter or prepared script, he could not submit his talking points to Obama’s secretaries before the breakfast. He simply told them he would give a short speech and compose it as he spoke. And that is what he did.

Dr. Carson, who is African-American, has been denounced as insufficiently black because he won’t toe the liberal line when it comes to big government and the implication that the poor (and the African-American voting bloc who fall below the poverty line) cannot succeed without it. The fact that many have not succeeded with government (and in some cases, the government is actually responsible for their continuing poverty and misery) has apparently escaped the notice of his critics, many of whom appeared on the Nanny Press and Obama-supporting stations over the weekend. Chris Matthews went on such a tirade I thought he was going to have a stroke. Unfortunately, God did not think it was his time.

Speaking with Megyn Kelly on Fox News’ “America Live” last week, Dr. Carson addressed some of the slurs tossed at him, saying they are what you might expect to hear “on a third grade playground.” It is the type of rhetoric that bullies use to keep you quiet. Dr. Carson appealed to his detractors to “move beyond” such rhetoric and “have a real discussion about the real facts. If somebody disagrees, let’s talk about why they disagree, let’s talk about the pros and cons, let’s see if we can find some accommodation.” That is how this earnest and thoughtful man put it. Of course, the simple logic was lost on the narcissistic, left-leaning socialists.

That is precisely what the left does not want to do because to have such a discussion would expose liberalism’s failure to solve the problems of poverty and education — to cite just two examples — through government. The school …read more

Dr. Ben Carson Dissed By MSNBC Lefty

By capblack

No good Black conservative ever goes unharmed; feast your eyes on this video vignette from liberal hatchet man Toure, about Dr. Ben Carson:

Toure repeatedly charged Republicans with “not caring” about Black folks??? Hmmm, I didn’t know that I as an American Black needed White people to “care ” about me.

Does that mean that White Democrats, whose polices destroyed the Black family unit and inflated street thuggery, “care” more about me?

This is what I call the “Care Gap,” where Black liberals invoke how much more their White folks like Negroes than evil old White conservatives.

In their eyes, White Democrats are good masters who pull us to their heaving bosoms and provide programs making our miserable lot as children of a lesser god more tolerable.

I would tell Toure where he could shove this type of silly reasoning, but I write for rated G audiences.

Suffice it to say, the Care Gap argument rudely deployed against Dr. Ben Carson means the good doctor’s tenure as a Black history figure liberals pointed to with pride is over.

Toure’s diss (to use an Old School ’80s phrase) of Dr. Carson means Black liberals have gotten marching orders to ethnically excommunicate someone they revered a short time ago.

Don’t let socialists somewhere in the bowels of the DNC tell you which Black people you can like.

THAT’S being an Uncle Tom for Democrats, and Toure and others should know better.

God For Obamacare … Dr. Ben Carson’s Heresy

By Paul G. Kengor

Ben Carson 2 SC God for Obamacare … Dr. Ben Carsons Heresy

Editor’s note: A longer version of this article first appeared at American Spectator.

Liberals are apoplectic over remarks by Dr. Ben Carson at the National Prayer Breakfast. Carson, a prominent pediatric surgeon from Johns Hopkins University, dared to weigh in on healthcare—something he knows something about. In the liberal mind, Carson committed a grave transgression; he disagreed with President Obama on healthcare at a faith venue, and in Obama’s presence.

In discussing Carson’s moral effrontery, Candy Crowley, host of CNN’s “State of the Union,” asked panelists if they were offended by Carson’s comments. “He [Carson] was talking about the idea of, you know, weaving the Bible into some objections he appears to have with the president’s approach,”said Crowley. Count Democratic Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky among the offended. She told Crowley: “I think it’s … not really an appropriate place to make this kind of political speech and to invoke God as his [Carson’s] support for that kind of point of view.”

In truth, what the likes of Crowley and Schakowsky object to is the mere fact that Carson publicly disagreed with Obama on healthcare, especially in the context of faith. For liberal Democrats, conservative Republicans should never use their faith to disagree; only liberal Democrats enjoy such freedoms. I could give a thousand examples illustrating the point; I’ve written entire books doing so. For now, however, here are some particularly salient examples involving Obama, liberals, and healthcare reform:

From the first year of Obama’s presidency, the religious left (Obama included) incessantly claimed God’s support for their vision of healthcare reform.

In August 2009, Obama addressed a “virtual gathering” of 140,000 religious left individuals—a huge conference call to liberal Christians, Jews, and other people of faith. Obama told them he was “going to need your help” in passing healthcare. Obama penitently invoked a period of “40 days,” a trial of deliverance from conservative evildoers. He lifted up the brethren, assuring them “We are God’s partner in matters of life and death.”

Like a great commissioning, in the 40 days that followed, the religious left was filled with the spirit. A group called the Religious Institute—led by Rev. Debra Hafner and representing 4,800 clergy—went wild stumping for Obamacare. Other religious left faithful joined the crusade.

A group of 59 leftist nuns sent Congress a letter urging passage of Obamacare. This was in direct defiance of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, which insisted the bill “must be opposed” because of its refusal to explicitly ban abortion funding. The liberal media cheered on the nuns, gleefully exaggerating their influence. In a breathtaking display, the Los Angeles Times beamed: “Nuns’ support for health-care bill shows [Catholic] Church split.” Amazingly, the Times reported that the nuns’ letter represented not 59 nuns—but 59,000! Like Jesus with the loaves, the Times (normally militantly secular) had demonstrated miraculous powers of multiplication.

The nuns’ brazenness was matched by Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, a Roman Catholic, who, in March 2010, invoked the Solemnity of the Feast of St. Joseph on behalf of Obamacare. …read more

Dr. Benjamin Carson: God’s Surprise To Obama!

By capblack

God will surprise Pharaoh every time.

I’m willing to bet dollars to donuts that Obama assumed merely because he and Dr. Ben Carson shared the same color that he had another gushing supplicant at the National Prayer Breakfast.

The good doctor’s presentation was a victory for individuality. He smited political correctness, Obamacare, and all other Demo-crack trickery with gentle words and brutal honesty.

Conservatives rallied around him as a potential 2016 presidential candidate. No pundit can claim to have seen this on the political radar.

God will surprise Pharaoh every time.

The frozen look on Obama’s face bore majestic witness to this truth. So-called “god-kings” don’t like to be upstaged, especially on their home turf.

Watch and enjoy:

Traditionalists have prayed and bitterly wondered if hope was left, after two victories for Marxist secular socialism.

Dr. Carson’s tour de force showed there’s still hope, and God is still in control.

Carson 2016?

We may have to wait awhile for that prognosis to come true.

Dr. Benjamin Carson was God’s surprise to a president who sees himself as a latter-day ruler of a modern Egypt.
