Kinect-Like Controller to Be Bundled with HP PCs

After striking a lucrative deal with ASUS earlier this year, touch technology controller and Kickstarter success story Leap Motion has a partnership Hewlett Packard to bring the technology inside the computer company’s new generation of PCs. This is the first embedding deal for the hardware startup, which has landed major partnerships even before its initial controller has been shipped to the public.

In addition to a fully integrated hardware system, every HP product with Leap Motion integrated will also have a native build of the hardware’s app marketplace, AirSpace. There is no specific product list, price range or timing calendar at this time, but HP PCs will be bundled with a separate Leap Motion controller as early as this summer.

The Good, the Bad, & the Ugly of Facebook Home on Your Samsung Galaxy S3

Facebook just released its new “home on Android” last Friday, appropriately called Facebook Home. Taking a cue from Amazon’s Kindle, Home serves as an “operating system” that runs over Android.

While the HTC First will be the first smartphone to ship with Home out of the box, Facebook did release the launcher for a select few Android devices, and the Samsung Galaxy S3 is one of those to take part in the launch. NOTE: Smartphones and tablets that are not officially supported (like the Google Nexus 7 by ASUS) can still get Facebook Home by installing the modded app files directly.

Ugly PC Data from IDC. HP Shipments Down 24% and Dell Down 11%.

By Chuck Jones, Contributor

IDC released its 2013 first quarter PC shipment estimates that are pretty brutal for four of the top five vendors; HP down 24% year over year, Dell down 11%, Acer down 31% and ASUS down 19%.  In the U.S. Apple’s shipments were down 7.5% year over year but given that there were manufacturing challenges and therefore inventory stockouts it is not surprising to see shipments down 7.5% year over year.  In my model I have Mac sales up 2% year over year.
