The Entertainment And Culture Devide- The Failure of Marco Rubio's GOP Response to SOTU
Every year politics becomes more entrenched with entertainment and why wouldn’t it? After all, Washington DC is referred to as Hollywood for ugly people by people inside the beltway. Celebrities clamor for the camera to support their pet policies while others perform at campaign rallies as an insurance policy to insure attendance. So why should the televised state of the union Speech or opposing party response be any different? Last night Obama delivered a speech that even many of his ardent supports said it felt like the last 4 SOTU speeches Obama had given. There were times when the standing ovations were loud and proud that created an energy that policy makers in the democratic party hope will carry over into the next session when voting on future legislation laid out by the President is put before congress. Immediately following the President’s speech, it was time for the GOP to highlight their future star and it they did just that when Senator Marco Rubio was tasked with giving the Republicans response speech. As soon as Rubio came on screen I was immediately reminded of Governor Bobby Jindal GOP response speech from 2009 and apparently, I wasn’t the only one. A native of Kauai, Hawaii, Sergeant Adams joined the Marine Corps in 2003. Sergeant Adams was deployed to Helmand Province, Afghanistan as a member of the Female Engagement Team (FET) from September 2010 to April 2011. Sergeant Adams received her Combat Action Ribbon and Navy and Marine Corp Achievement Medal (second award) after successful completion of the deployment. In September 2011, Sergeant Adams returned to 1st Marine Expeditionary Force Advisor Training Cell, as Team Advisor/Liaison and lead FET instructor, where she re-engineered the Period of Instruction for future FETs.
