The lesbian cousin of Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts will attend Tuesday’s oral arguments examining California’s Proposition 8 ballot initiative, which bans gay marriage in the state.
Jean Podrasky, a San Francisco woman who says she hopes to marry her partner, told the Los Angeles Times that she plans to be at the court for the arguments. She told the paper the chief justice knows that she is gay, and that she attended his confirmation hearing along with other family members.
Podrasky also said she hopes to introduce Roberts to Grace Fasano, her partner of four years, during the trip to Washington, and is optimistic about how her relative will rule.
“He is a smart man,” she said. “He is a good man. I believe he sees where the tide is going. I do trust him. I absolutely trust that he will go in a good direction.”
But Podrasky also said she didn’t know whether her presence, or having a family member who was openly gay, would sway her cousin.

Do the Republicans actually think that catering towards any form of amnesty, even if any of the proposed laws have parameters that sound tough on illegal immigrants towards their “path to eventual citizenship,” will bring them the eventual support they need in the future to acquire positions in the halls of Congress? Or leadership in the White House? Really?
There was an interesting piece on the Mark Levin show on Monday where Levin pointed out that administrations and presidential races from 1980 to 2012 have never been in favor of Republicans when it comes to amnesty. No matter what happens, whether an immigrant breaks the law and comes across the border illegally, or if they obey the law and go through the true path to citizenship that every immigrant should, most of them will always vote for the Democratic Party. Let’s take a moment and go through the different administrations and races and see if the Hispanic votes ever leaned in the direction of the Republicans, even when they did favor a form of amnesty.
Number one: In 1980, President Jimmy Carter received 56% of the Hispanic vote; Ronald Reagan only received 35% of the vote.
Number Two: In 1984, when President Reagan said he supported amnesty, the President received only 37% of the Hispanic vote – a 2% increase from his previous run – and the Democratic contender Walter Mondale had received a whopping 61%. It’s also interesting to note that Reagan won both elections with massive landslides.
Number Three: In 1988, Michael Dukakis received 69% of the Hispanic vote; and George H. W. Bush only received 30% of the Hispanic vote. It is important to keep in mind that Bush was Ronald Reagan’s Vice President when Reagan signed the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986, which Reagan later admitted was his biggest mistake. Does anyone remember who won that election?
Number Four: In the 2000 election, Vice President Al Gore received 62% of the Hispanic vote; and George W. Bush only received 35%. Bush had received only 5% more in Hispanic votes in the 2004 election and still won. Any form of amnesty doesn’t work in anyone’s favor. A child is never going to respect their parents if they are given everything they want. When a child who had well-rounded parents who loved them unconditionally (yet instilled real discipline) grows up, they usually look back on their parents with respect and admiration. This may not always be the case, but usually it is. The point is that when the Jindals of the Republican Party start touting their horn about “working to be accepting in the eyes of minorities and new immigrants,” they need to be ignored because their sad and annoying words don’t win elections.

Conservative author and radio talk show host Mark Levin contends that Obama’s executive orders are “un-American” and even “fascistic.”

The inauguration is over. But our reporter, Eliza Snoop, was able to catch an interesting private conversation between President Obama and Joe Biden, since she was able to disguise herself as a fly and enter the presidential limo.
“A stirring speech, Mr. Presisent,” Biden said. “I’m glad you were able to include the words ‘endowed by their Creator’ in your quote of the Declaration of Independence — this time.”
“Yep — that ought to keep the Tea Partiers quiet for a while.”
“I’m also glad we were able to get some good entertainment into this — many people think the whole day is just boring. Beyonce was great.”
“It’s Be-yon-SAY” to you old folks, Joe,” the president quipped.
“Oops. But I can pronounce James Taylor.”
“Say, I thought James Taylor was going to sing something unique. I mean, ‘America the beautiful was nice, but —”
“He was, but I just had to stop him.”
“Wha—?”
“He had something prepared to the tune of his famous ‘Fire and Rain,’ but he was going to call it ‘Fire and Brimstone.’”
“Glad you put a damper on that, Joe. We don’t want any divine condemnation.”
“Hey, I liked that line about how we expose the error that ‘All problems can be solved by government alone,’” Biden chuckled. “Just get them to believe that we think like they do, and then we can do what we want.”
Obama smiled approvingly as the car turned onto Constitution Avenue.
“Of course, we’ll put a lot of church activity and charity groups out of business, as we planned — I really like your HHS mandate where we’re going to shut down Catholic institutions. You’re a genius, Mr. President.”
“It’s all going to fall into our hands someday, Joe,” Obama quipped. “Hey, what about that Rushmore project?
“Yes, Mr. President. There’s just no more room for any other face. We’ll have to replace one of the guys up there with your awesome visage.”
“Who will we replace? Lincoln, he’s a good guy. Jefferson, nah. Hey, how about Washington? I like how he’s out front of all the others, and I never liked all those paintings of him praying.”
“Perfect. And I’ve already looked into the logistics. Seems the granite experts have had difficulty finding a grey material that will stick to the rock. In fact, there’s only one substance that will do it.
“What’s that?” Obama asked, leaning forward curiously.
“With all due respect, Mr. President, it’s Silly Putty. It will take 95,000 tons of the gummy stuff to get in your ears.”
“Do it, Joe. It’s just like our public policy. Dumb solutions, but just make it stick with the public.”
