Obama’s Got No Class

By Twila Le Page

Whoever Split Baracks Lip Michelle Obama SC Obamas Got No Class

For all of my long years, I do not recall a President and First Lady with as little class than that of the Obamas.

Obama interjects himself into the minutiae of everyday happenings. Most Presidents keep themselves above the fray.  He seems to not realize (or care about) the influence his offhand remarks have and that they go around the world.

Take the killing of Trayvon Martin. The Sanford, Florida prosecutor decided not to arrest Zimmerman due to self defense under Florida law, and it never even went to the grand jury there.  Then sometime later, Obama wades in and says “If I had a son he would have looked like Trayvon.”  This remark triggered a racist suggestion and fed fuel to the fire of the likes of the Rev. Al Sharpton, who, never even needing an excuse,  started rallying the troops to denounce this as a racist crime. Cries of racism have not been as rampant as they were before the 60s. Our president sets the tone of the country and those he is around.

There was never any proof that Zimmerman was ever a racist.  Had it been a black shooting a black, nothing would have been said.  But because of the racial overtones (and the NAACP  looking for something to protest about), the media covered the trial every day. Now with the NAACP asking the Justice Dept. to try Zimmerman for civil rights crimes, who knows what will happen next? Knowing Holder, he will probably file if for nothing else than to deflect the news away from Benghazi and other administration scandals.

Then Obama’s sex assault comments stirred up cases, causing some military judges to dismiss charges, citing illegal influence. Obama had proclaimed that “those who commit sexual assault in the military should be prosecuted, stripped of their positions, court-martialed, fired, or dishonorably discharged.” It had an effect he may or may not have intended, roiling legal cases across the country.  Judges and defense lawyers have said Obama’s words as commander-in-chief amounted to “unlawful command influence,” tainting trials as a result.

Whether it is a tendency to blurt out anything that pops into his mind (when he is not on a teleprompter) or whether his comments are carefully orchestrated to posit undue political influence, it just seems he butts in where he shouldn’t. And he’s a lawyer–so he should  know the influence his remarks have, coming from the most powerful man in the free world.

Obama’s wife makes influential remarks, also–especially about food. She’s the self-appointed food police now. Her bangs and attire show little or no class, often looking like and acting like a young girl instead of a middle-aged President’s wife.  Her constant no sleeves dresses–even in winter–show no class, as if she is proud of her abs. To say the least, it is very unstylish.

I can’t wait until (hopefully) the next President and First Lady will have class and be respected at home and abroad once again. In my lifetime, most presidents and First Ladies have had class. Like the …read more

US Department Of Justice Seal SC Justice official: No reading of Miranda rights

WASHINGTON — A Justice Department official says the Boston Marathon bombing suspect will not be read his Miranda rights because the government is invoking a public safety exception.

That official and a second person briefed on the investigation says 19-year-old Dzhokhar Tsarnaev will be questioned by a special interrogation team for high-value suspects. The officials spoke on the condition of anonymity because they weren’t authorized to disclose the information publicly.

Whoa! These 3 Stocks Sailed Past the Dow

By Rich Duprey, The Motley Fool

Filed under:

After setting a new record high the day before, the Dow Jones Industrial Average settled back 33 points to digest a little more of the situation in Cyprus. The banks in the island nation opened today, and you can be assured there will be long lines to get at whatever money will be available. With withdrawals limited to 300 euros a day, the banks should survive, even if trust in them has been torn to shreds.

Russia‘s oligarchs were the true target of the oppressive measures, but they apparently were allowed to withdraw their monies despite account freezes being imposed. It will be the individual Cypriots who will be paying the price, though depositors around the world have been put on notice that a “wealth tax” may be imposed against them at will if bailouts are necessary again.

Of course, not every stock was struck with ennui like the market index was, and some did quite well yesterday, even rising by double-digit percentages. But you should resist the urge to high-five everyone in the cubicles next to you. Smart investors won’t celebrate until they know why their stock surged; without a fundamental basis for the bounce, these stocks could just as quickly make the return trip down.

Banking on the unbanked
Yesterday, electronic transaction processor Net 1 Ueps Technologies surged 27% after its contract with South Africa’s Social Security Agency, making it the sole provider of social welfare payments in the country for five years, was upheld by a South African appeals court.

In January 2012, Net 1 was awarded a payment services contract by the SASSA that was disputed by two local companies that lost during the bidding process, AllPay and Empilweni. In August, the bidding process was determined to be “illegal and invalid, but the appeals court didn’t cancel Net 1’s contract, which caused the two losing companies — along with SASSA — to appeal the ruling to the South African Supreme Court of Appeal.

Net 1 said yesterday that the court ruled the bidding process was indeed valid and legal, and its contract to distribute social welfare grants remained intact. While certainly a victory, investors are reminded that Net 1 is still under investigation by the Justice Dept. and FBI for violation of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, which is a catchall law for companies suspected of bribing foreign officials. The court’s ruling, though, may mitigate a lot of those questions.

Staying afloat
The shipping industry remained afloat yesterday, riding the high seas as it has done for the past few weeks, as confidence returned that day rates will improve in 2013. According to the industry analysts at Moore Stephens, shippers believe the worst of the downturn is now behind them, though investments in the industry will lag as financing will be hard to come by.

The optimism is being fueled by hopes that global trade may be picking up just as dry bulk ship …read more

Vegetarian Protesters Compare Themselves To Oppressed Blacks

By B. Christopher Agee

Martin Luther King Jr. SC Vegetarian protesters compare themselves to oppressed blacks

An ongoing complaint by members of an animal rights organization offers further proof the civil rights struggle of the 1960s has been hopelessly watered down by today’s constantly offended leftists.

A group of disruptive vegetarians associated with Direct Action Everywhere now say backlash against a recent protest is no different than a segregated lunch counter in North Carolina denying service to blacks.

The incident took place at Stanford University and involved nine activists who stood up during the screening of a movie with a favorable message concerning meat.

The protesters later wrote an opinion article published by the school newspaper in which they said they were treated like the black students turned away from the Greensboro, N.C. eatery more than 50 years ago.

“We faced much the same critique,” the article claimed, including being “asked to leave, jeered at and scolded by supporters and critics of our message alike.”

Just a thought – if you’re being scolded by supporters of your cause, maybe you’ve chosen the wrong way to share your message.

The protest included each participant standing up and showing a photograph of his or her pet and linking the animal to the film with statements such as, “She doesn’t deserve to die, and neither did they.”

At least one attendee joined in the nonsense with a much-needed interjection, declaring, “My name is Aspen. I raise pigs. I love bacon.”

When the film’s director suggested toning down the vitriol, one protestor compared a discussion of meat to that of rape or child pornography.

“What’s next?” the individual asked. “Are you going to invite a dog fighter – Michael Vick – to this forum and allow him to talk about how wonderful it is to torture and kill dogs?”

The director noted he had not seen such a display at any prior screening, explaining his parents were in the audience, “and they were kind of shaken by it.”

While there is a case to be made for humane treatment of animals, we already have laws on the books dealing with such behavior.

When a group of morons jumps up to disrupt a film and compare eating meat to violent crimes, they no longer deserve to be treated seriously.

They certainly don’t get to compare themselves to blacks struggling for equal treatment during this nation’s arduous fight for civil rights.
