Batman Beyond Movie Back in Development?

Warner Bros., which had previously had a live-action Batman Beyond movie in development before going with Christopher Nolan’s Batman reboot, is now said to be kicking around resurrecting their feature film adaptation of the animated TV series.

(In case you somehow forgot, the animated series saw an aging Bruce Wayne train his successor, 17-year-old high-school student Terry McGinnis, to protect Gotham City in the 21st century.)

Batman-on-Film claims that such a movie is back “on the table” and that it would have nothing to do with the Nolan Batman universe, which is now done for good.

Assassinating Batman in Arkham Origins

Whether in movies, television, comics or video games, when Batman needs a change of pace, creative teams tend to lean towards the iconic hero’s formative years. That’s precisely the case with Batman: Arkham Origins, just announced this morning for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii U and PC. Since the game’s reveal, Game Informer’s cover story has gone live, providing us with some critical new details in the next Batman adventure, due out October 25.

As previously noted, the Dark Knight will face eight assassins, including fan favorite Deathstroke, who have journeyed to Arkham City to kill him. We now know that Black Mask is responsible for putting a bounty on Batman’s head, though exactly why will be a key mystery in the game’s story. Also playing into the plot – Gotham City‘s acclimation to its rookie protector. Players will not only see a much more skeptical and potentially hostile Gotham City Police Department (aka the ‘GCPD’, which happens to feature a young Captain Jim Gordon), but younger and healthier versions of big bad guys like the Penguin – who apparently didn’t always have the tail end of a glass bottle shoved in one eye.

LEGO Batman: The Movie Review

By Jim Vejvoda

Utilizing the cutscenes from the video game LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes, LEGO Batman: The Movie – DC Super Heroes Unite sees Batman and Superman teaming up to save Gotham City from the combined villainy of Lex Luthor and the Joker. Robin and members of the JLA also pop up at various points in this tongue-in-cheek, family-friendly animated take on the World’s Finest.

If you’re a fan of the game then there’s no reason you shouldn’t like this movie, but also no reason why you’d probably watch it since it’s pretty much what you’ve already seen except without the interactivity of actually playing the game. So we’re going to treat this as an experience for those who are unfamiliar with the game, love DC superheroes or just want a fun kid’s movie to watch.

Petaluma Batman: Real Life ‘Dark Knight’ Patrols Small California Town (VIDEO)

By The Huffington Post News Editors

Petaluma BatmanIt might not be as flashy as Gotham City, but the tiny Northern California town of Petaluma has its very own Batman.

For the past three months, a 19-year-old college student (whose true identity remains a secret) has been patrolling Petaluma on an electric scooter, determined to make his home a better place.

By day, he attends Santa Rosa Junior College, and by night, he dons a homemade costume of black pants, a yellow belt and a Batman t-shirt, mask and cape. Only five people know his true identity, but his presence has become a local sensation nonetheless.

A short documentary about Petaluma’s very own Dark Knight! Score copyrighted by Warner Brothers, Batman created by Bob Kane. Follow Petaluma Batman on Facebook at www.facebook.com/PetalumaBatman

“When I’m not in my Petaluma Batman costume, I hear people talking about me a lot,” he told Petaluma 360. “It’s weird, but I’m glad that I have been able to entertain people and lift their spirits. I just want to inspire some good will.”

One particular act of good will included Petaluma Batman’s help searching for his former classmate Alyssa Byrne, whose body was later found in Lake Tahoe. The small-town superhero alerted many residents to her disappearance by posting flyers on telephone poles and listing charitable organizations on his Facebook page, which has amassed more than 7,000 fans.

He even engages in mock battles and stages choreographed fights with “Petaluma Joker” and other pretend villains, much to the delight of his growing fanbase.

“There’s this motto, ‘a hero can be anyone,’ and it’s kind of really taken ahold of in the newest Batman movies,” Petaluma Batman told ABC News. “I thought, ‘Well, that’s kind of neat.'”

Ebix Earnings: An Early Look

By Dan Caplinger, The Motley Fool

Filed under:

Earnings season is winding down, with most companies already having reported their quarterly results. But there are still some companies left to report, and Ebix is one of them. The key to making smart investment decisions with stocks releasing their quarterly reports is to anticipate how they’ll do before they announce results, leaving you fully prepared to respond quickly to whatever inevitable surprises arise.

The insurance industry is a big business, and it requires a lot of moving parts to keep insurance companies working smoothly. Ebix does its part to help with its data exchanges, broker systems, and back-office support for insurance operations. Let’s take an early look at what’s been happening with Ebix over the past quarter and what we’re likely to see in its report on Thursday.

Will Ebix keep rising higher this quarter?
Analysts have been cautiously optimistic about Ebix’s prospects lately, having pushed estimates up $0.01 per share for the just-ended quarter and by $0.02 per share for full-year 2013. But the stock hasn’t shared that enthusiasm, falling about 2% since early December.

Ebix stands on the brink of a huge opportunity. With Obamacare changing the health-insurance landscape, Ebix could benefit as insurance companies seek to take full advantage of millions of new customers seeking mandated coverage. As insurers try to ramp up their offerings, they’ll need to rely on outside insurance services to an even greater extent, opening up more growth opportunities for Ebix. That potential may be behind Ebix’s decision to reward shareholders with a 50% dividend boost in February.

Ebix also has an impressive stable of customers. Genworth Financial in particular has soared recently due to a recovery in its mortgage-insurance business. With even more extensive networks of agents, brokers, and customers, Manulife Financial and Prudential both count on Ebix to help keep communications streamlined and policyholders satisfied.

Last month, Ebix took a big hit when a report from Gotham City Research attacked the stock. Ebix has managed to survive previous attacks from other research firms, but if Gotham’s allegations about failing to disclose related-party loans and alleged unreliable and inaccurate accounting are true, then Gotham’s contention that the shares are worth only a third of their current value may be more than just a short-seller talking up its book. Still, Ebix defended itself less than a week later, and shares recovered much of their losses.

In its quarterly report, watch Ebix closely to see if the Gotham City allegations distract it from the much more important task of coming up with strategies to defend itself from potential competitors. In a growing business, Ebix needs to establish itself as the go-to player in order to …read more

Ray Nagin: Black Good Ole Boy?

By capblack

Ray Nagin SC Ray Nagin: Black Good Ole Boy?

The phrase “Good Ole Boy” is used to describe America’s age-old system of cronyism.

Its leading critics have sadly included racism lobbyists whose selective outrage never includes American Blacks engaged in graft.

Instead of eliminating the Good Ole Boy system, they’ve merely integrated it, as illustrated by cases like the recent federal indictment of former New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin.

Previously, Americans would have stated that his claim to fame was being at the helm when levees tragically failed after Hurricane Katrina.

He now has made the dubious history of being New Orleans’ first mayor to face corruption charges in a town renowned for its culture of corruption.

That’s saying something.

Twenty one counts alleging taking bribes, funneling money to a business he owned, and other official misconduct challenges claims that Black faces in high places are all we need.

Cries of prejudice await deployment by Black racism lobbyists whose greatest wish is for Black folks to get in on the action- not end corruption.

“White guys do it (engage in corruption); why can’t we?” is their weak rationale. The long list of convicted Black officials only means to them that dark hands only are the ones that get punished for dipping into the public cookie jar.

That’s a sad commentary for a demographic whose watch word was once “you have to be be twice as good to get half as much.”

It seems our motto has now morphed into “Take the money and run!”

Nagin’s last term was winding down when I arrived here three years ago. I’ve had a ringside seat to monitor some of America’s most colorful and disturbing corruption cases in a town I’ve nicknamed the “real life Gotham City.”

My overriding concern remains how numerous liberal American Blacks overlook our crime on the streets and suites because they feel White people aren’t punished for the same offenses.

In Ray Nagin’s case, cooperating witnesses from his past will undoubtedly take the stand against him (including his former technology chief Greg Meffert, whom Black racism lobbyists will note is White).

Others wait in the wings, I’m sure.

Black observers in New Orleans and the rest of America have yet another high-profile scandal to experience.

It can serve as the latest mirror testing Black commitment to good government or expose hypocrisy by not being any better than those whom racism lobbyists ritually accuse.

Whether Ray Nagin is merely the latest Black Good Ole Boy to be exposed remains to be seen.

Corruption is wrong, regardless of its perpetrator’s color.
