Video: Trump To CPAC: Build A Great Economy

By Daniel Noe

America’s Future: The Next Generation of Conservatives
New Challenges Timeless Principles
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Donald Trump addressed a group of conservative activists during ACU’s annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC 2013) in the Washington, D.C. area.

Donald Trump:

Build a great economy,” he declared.  “We don’t have a great economy now,” and he continued “We have to make American strong again and make America great again.”

What’s going on in this country is unbelievable. Our country is a total mess. What we need is leadership. By fixing the economy we are able to solve the problems we really do need to solve—Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security.  They all become affordable when we become a wealthy country again.

Regarding domestic energy production, Trump said “New technology [has shown] we have tremendous wealth right under our feet.” He declared “We can become so easily the energy capital of the world.”

We have to bring money in.  We have to take back our jobs from China.”

Donald J. Trump started his business career in an office he shared with his father, Fred, in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn, New York, before expanding his interests nationally and internationally. Mr. Trump has had numerous best sellers including: The Art of the Deal, which is considered a business classic, The Art of the ComebackThe America We DeserveHow To Get RichThink Like a BillionaireTrump 101Why We Want You To Be RichThink BigNever Give Up, and Think Like a Champion.

Former U.S. Senator Rick Santorum

We all know America is not like any other culture in the world.”  He continued, “We’re all hyphenated Americans.

That’s what holds us together that’s what’s given us purpose through the centuries…it comes from our founding documents—the Declaration of Independence.” He continued and quoted “What does it profit a movement to gain the country and lose its own soul?”

Regarding the federal government, Santorum said “Obama’s New Deal: give them more power and more authority and they will take care of you.”

Press Gaggle by Principal Deputy Press Secretary Josh Earnest Aboard Air Force One en route Chicago, Illinois, 3/15/2013

By The White House

Aboard Air Force One
En Route Chicago, Illinois

11:26 A.M. EDT

MR. EARNEST: Two announcements at the top. The first is the Vice President will be leading a delegation to attend the inaugural Mass of Pope Francis. Joining the Vice President as part of that delegation to Rome will be New Mexico Governor Susana Martinez; the Democratic Leader of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi; and the President of Georgetown University Jack DeGioia.

I also want to give a little heads up on what we’re talking about today in Argonne. Welcome aboard Air Force One as we make our way to Argonne National Lab just outside Chicago, Illinois. Those of you who dialed into yesterday’s conference call know that the President will be discussing one of the priorities he identified in his State of the Union address — investing in American energy.

The Energy Security Trust that he’s highlighting today is a common-sense proposal to use some of the revenue that we obtain in the form of royalties from offshore oil and gas production and invest it in research dedicated to alternative forms of energy. This research furthers the goal identified by the President to make our country and our economy less dependent on foreign oil.

We’ve already made progress on this front with the so-called car rule that has increased fuel efficiency. According to a new EPA study, fuel economy has increased 16 percent over the last several years. And this isn’t just good for the environment, it also reduces the number of times — the number of trips to the gas station for American families and for businesses. It also makes our economy a little less dependent on the fluctuation in the global price of oil, and it makes our country more secure and less dependent on energy from some volatile regions in the world.

But there is more that we can do in the form of advanced batteries, electric cars, and a few vehicles that are powered by biofuels or natural gas. That’s some of the research that’s being done at Argonne National Lab, and it’s research that we should invest in.

This idea was devised by some retired military leaders because of the good it would do for our national security, and by some prominent business leaders, including some Republicans, because it would benefit our economy and create jobs. So with all the talk about bipartisan compromise in Washington, D.C. the last couple of weeks, there’s no reason that Republicans in Congress can’t work with the President to get this done.

So you’ll hear a lot more from the President about that this afternoon.

And with that, I’ll take your questions.

Q I’d like to ask you about — to respond to a couple of things going on at the CPAC conference. One is that gun control is becoming a major topic there, and they’re building some opposition to the President’s proposals on the …read more

Caddell Unloads On ‘Racketeering’ GOP Consultants

Caddell CPAC Caddell Unloads On Racketeering GOP Consultants

Pat Caddell, the Fox News Contributor and Democrat pollster who engineered Jimmy Carter’s 1976 Presidential victory, blew the lid off CPAC on Thursday with a blistering attack on “racketeering” Republican consultants who play wealthy donors like “marks.”

“I blame the donors who allow themselves to be played for marks. I blame the people in the grassroots for allowing themselves to be played for suckers….It’s time to stop being marks. It’s time to stop being suckers. It’s time for you people to get real,” he told the audience that included two top Republican consultants.

Caddell stole the show as a panelist in the breakout session titled “Should We Shoot All the Consultants Now?” He spoke with a fire and passion that electrified the room. When the session began the large room was half filled, but as word spread of the fireworks going on inside, the audience streamed in. By the end, it was standing room only.

Breitbart News spoke with Caddell prior to his talk, and he promised he would deliver a “brutal critique” of the Republican establishment and its political consulting class. He did not disappoint, pulling no punches with an unyielding evisceration of a small group of Republican consultants, the Romney campaign, the Republican National Committee, and Karl Rove’s Crossroads GPS Super PAC.

“When you have the Chief of Staff of the Republican National Committee and the political director of the Romney campaign, and their two companies get $150 million at the end of the campaign for the ‘fantastic’ get-out-the-vote program…some of this borders on RICO [the 1970 Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act] violations,” Caddell told the crowd. “It’s all self dealing going on. I think it works on the RICO thing. They’re in the business of lining their pockets.”

By The Huffington Post News Editors

In her CPAC speech Friday morning, Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-N.H.) said that Obamacare is one of the “things that keep me up at night.”

“Let me tell you about some of the things that keep me up at night,” Ayotte said. “Too many Americans are out of work. Federal regulations are strangling businesses. Obamacare is increasing healthcare costs and stopping so many of those businesses from hiring.”

She also took shots at Senate Democrats and President Barack Obama over taxes.

HUFFPOST HILL – CPAC: Like SXSW But Even More Pointless

By The Huffington Post News Editors

Today was the first day of CPAC, the incredibly influential conference that has tremendous bearing on CPAC. Vice President Biden launched a new audio blog called “Being Biden” that regrettably isn’t recorded in the third person. And MSNBC’s Chris Hayes is moving to primetime. Presumably he’ll change the name of his show, “Up With Chris Hayes,” to “You Probably Don’t Care About The First Few Innings Of That Game, Anyway With Chris Hayes.” This is HUFFPOST HILL for Thursday, March 14th, 2013:

BOB CORKER: REPUBLICANS RULE, DEMOCRATS DROOL – After his conference met with President Obama today, Tennessee Senator Bob Corker told Mike McAuliff that the difference between meeting Democrats and Republicans is like the splitscreen meal from “Annie Hall”… and Republicans are Diane Keaton’s family: “I would suspect that if you asked the president which luncheons he enjoyed the most, I would say he enjoyed — by far! — the Republican luncheons. There was a tone of respect, and I think he senses, even though there are differences politically and policy-wise, I think he senses a sincere desire to make something happen. I think the Democratic meetings were a little more raucous than ours was.”

Earlier, in Obama-GOP bromanceOrrin Hatch in January, per Mike McAuliff: “The president doesn’t seem to ever get really involved. I like him personally. We’re friends. We talk to each other in nice ways, and not because we have to, because we like each other. Or at least I like him. I don’t know if he likes me anymore. He seems to. He calls me Orrin.”

Rick Perry CPAC Address Accuses Obama Of Allowing ‘Federally-Sponsored Jailbreak’

By The Huffington Post News Editors

Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R) accused President Barack Obama of endangering the public as a political strategy by releasing undocumented immigrants from detention ahead of sequestration budget cuts.

“This president’s posture, it’d be laughable if he hadn’t taken it one step too far, dangerously releasing criminals onto our streets to make a political point,” he said at CPAC. “When you have a federally-sponsored jailbreak — and don’t get confused, that’s exactly what that is — when you’ve had a federally-sponsored jailbreak, you’ve crossed the line from politics of spin to politics as a craven form of cynicism.”

Immigration and Customs Enforcement said in late February that its agents had released “several hundred” people from detention, citing concerns over the budget. Earlier Thursday, ICE officials acknowledged that more than 2,000 people were released in the final three weeks of February. Those let out of detention were still kept in deportation proceedings.
