The details are still being finalized, but the majority of changes involve “program enhancements for the student-athletes and coaches,” athletic director Ed McLaughlin said. It also extends a contract already scheduled to run through 2020.

Mitch McGary made quite an impression in Michigan’s NCAA Tournament win over VCU on Saturday. Much of that impression was left in the scorebook but some was left on Briante Weber.
The VCU guard was tracking Michigan’s Trey Burke when he ran into a 6′ 10″ wall wearing a white No. 4 jersey. The freshman center, making just his fourth career start (two in the regular season), stepped into the path of Weber and Burke ran his defender right into the screen. Momentarily freed up, Burked drained a deep step-back jumper to give Michigan a 36-21 lead late in the first half. Weber went down hard enough that McGary may be hearing from Wolverines football Brady Hoke before the Sweet 16.
“I set a good, hard screen and the man happened to run into my chest. It was a legal screen,” McGary told Nick Baumgardner of MLive.com, adding “I didn’t mean, intentionally, for him to fall down. It just happened like that.”

Between the First Four and the two first full days of wall-to-wall NCAA Tournament action, 36 games have been played. Thirty-six teams have been sent home. Thirty-two teams have advanced. Although no game has been won on a buzzer beater (although Vander Blue came closest), several were won by teams that no one expected to succeed. From A-Z, here is a rundown of everything you need to know about the madness of March (so far):
Atlantic 10: President Obama believed that the Big Ten was the strongest conference during the year. The selection committee granted the most bids to the Big East. Once the ball was thrown up, however, it was the A-10 that stole the show. Highlighted by No. 13 La Salle‘s upset win over No. 4 Kansas State (coming after a First Four win), the Atlantic 10 has gone 6-0. VCU and Saint Louis dominated. Temple and Butler are moving on. As Mike Lopresti of USA Today Sports calculated, the round of 32 will be 15.6% A-10 teams.
Bracket: Through April 8th, everything will be a bracket. Food is a bracket. Curse words are a bracket. Hate is a bracket. Most importantly, the NCAA Tournament is a bracket. Did you fill yours out? The fifth-seeded Rams set an NCAA tournament record that stood for about an hour Thursday night, throttling 12th-seeded Akron 88-42 for the most lopsided victory by a team seeded third or lower in the NCAA tournament.

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. — Troy Daniels had 23 points, Juvonte Reddic scored 21 and VCU routed Akron 88-42 on Thursday night in the most lopsided victory by a fifth-seeded team over a No. 12 in NCAA tournament history.
The previous mark was set by Wyoming in a 35-point win over Howard in 1981 and matched by Tennessee against Long Beach State in 2007, according to STATS.

No. 4 seed Michigan will face No. 13 South Dakota State in the second round of the 2013 NCAA Tournament in the South region.
The Wolverines earned a No. 1 ranking in the AP Poll back in January for the first time since the 1992-93 season, but then they went on to lose four of their next seven including at Penn State.
The winner in this matchup in Auburn Hills on March 21 will face the winner of No. 5 VCU and No. 12 Akron in the third round.

For the eight teams competing in Dayton, Ohio on Tuesday and Wednesday, the “First Four” is every bit as compelling as the Final Four that will take place in Atlanta a few weeks later.
Even if your office pool doesn’t notice, the 2013 NCAA Tournament schedule kicks off on Tuesday night rather than Thursday afternoon. Ever since the NCAA expanded the field to 68 teams for the 2011 tournament, the true first round has consisted of the so-called “play-in games.” A run by VCU from the First Four to the Final Four in 2011 made it clear that Dayton can be the launching pad for March success.
