Rooting for the Underdog: Florida Gulf Coast and ….Microsoft?

As any NCAA Men’s basketball fan knows, the most fascinating Cinderella at the Big Dance is Florida Gulf Coast University. Their 78-68 victory over the mighty second-seeded Georgetown Hoyas last Thursday, followed by an 81-71 takedown of the San Diego State Aztecs on Saturday, was the first time a lowly number 15 seed reached the Sweet 16. Miami vs. Pacific NCAA Tournament 2013 Capsule Preview: Predict The Winner

No. 2 seed Miami will face No. 15 Pacific in the second round of the 2013 NCAA Tournament in the East region.

Miami head coach James Larranaga has some experience in the Big Dance. In 2006 as head coach of George Mason, he and the No. 11 Patriots went on an improbable run to the Final Four.

The winner in this matchup in Austin, Texas on March 22 will face the winner of No. 7 Illinois and No. 10 Colorado in the third round.

N.C. State vs. Temple NCAA Tournament 2013 Capsule Preview: Predict The Winner

No. 8 seed North Carolina State will face No. 9 Temple in the second round of the 2013 NCAA Tournament in the East region.

While the Owls are making their fifth straight appearance in the Big Dance, they have only made it out of the field of 64 just once.

The winner in this matchup in Dayton, Ohio on March 22 will face the winner of No. 1 Indiana and the winner of LIU-Brooklyn/James Madison in the third round.

VCU vs. Akron NCAA Tournament 2013 Capsule Preview: Predict The Winner

No. 5 seed Virginia Commonwealth will face No. 12 Akron in the second round of the 2013 NCAA Tournament in the South region.

VCU is making its third straight appearance in the Big Dance, two years after going on a Cinderella run to the Final Four as a No. 11 seed.

The winner in this matchup in Auburn Hills on March 21 will face the winner of No. 4 Michigan and No. 13 South Dakota State in the third round.

NCAA Bubble 2013: Virginia, Tennessee, Maryland Left Out Of March Madness Bracket

While the unveiling of the field of 68 teams selected for the NCAA Tournament sparked celebrations on 68 campuses, there were a handful of hopeful teams at the other end of the emotional spectrum after being left out of the bracket.

Prominent among those failing to secure a spot were the Kentucky Wildcats. According to ESPN Stats & Info, Kentucky is just the fifth defending champion to fail to receive an invite to the Big Dance since the NCAA Tournament expanded to 64 teams in 1985.

NCAA Tournament Bracket 2013: PRINTABLE March Madness Match-Ups

Ready or not, it’s bracket time. The field of 68 teams in the 2013 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament has been revealed on Selection Sunday. Four No. 1 seeds have been named by the selection committee, bubbles have been burst and potential Cinderella squads are being sized for glass high-tops. Who will cut down the nets? Who will leave fans shredding their brackets?

Louisville, Kansas, Indiana and Gonzaga claimed the No. 1 seeds, with the Louisville Cardinals earning the top overall seed after completing a 29-5 season out of the Big East. A tumultuous regular season was fittingly followed by another wave of upsets in the conference tournaments. After weighing the merits of all contending teams, 68 invitations to the Big Dance were handed out.
