J. Michael Straczynski Explores the Twilight Zone

It wouldn’t be Comic-Con without a series of announcements from Dynamite Entertainment regarding classic characters and properties being adapted into new comic books. Yesterday we learned that Dynamite has added the Robotech universe to their lineup, paving the way for the geek-tastic crossover series Robotech/Voltron.

But if you prefer a different brand of science fiction TV, maybe today’s announcement will be more up your alley. Dynamite is about to enter another dimension. A dimension not only of sight and sound, but of mind. A journey into a wondrous land of imagination.

Video: The Takedown Of America

By Kris Zane

There is something eating away at this country.

A dark, oppressive cloud hovering over America.

Rush Limbaugh said on Monday that America is dying.

We are in the throes of the worst terrorist attack since 9/11. Poison-laced letters are making their way through the mail. Bomb threats are now a daily occurrence. Boston is being managed like a war zone, with other cities quickly falling in line.

With all of this going on, Barack Hussein Obama stood in the Rose Garden yesterday and threw what can only be described as a temper tantrum.

He didn’t get his way—universal background checks for all gun sales—and proceeded to threaten and cajole America for daring to engage in the democratic process.

If it would have been any other day in America, we would have chocked it up to a normal occurrence in the Obama administration.

But it was not a normal day. And there won’t be a normal day for a while.

How could Barack Obama stamp his foot and shake his fist in the midst of a crisis for something that a recent poll said about 4% of the public thinks is important? It doesn’t make sense. It is like something out of a Twilight Zone episode.

It only makes sense if the something that is eaten away at this country, oppressing us, and poisoning us like a toxic cloud, is Barack Hussein Obama.

North Korea is threatening nuclear war, the Middle East is slowly being taken over by the Muslim Brotherhood (who we happen to be in bed with), and our economy is on the verge of collapse as we approach a $20 trillion national debt.

And what is Barack Hussein Obama doing? Playing golf. On another vacation. Hosting a star-studded, multi-million dollar “soul music” celebration and throwing tempter tantrums.

It doesn’t make sense.

It only makes sense if the something that is eating away at this country is in fact Barack Hussein Obama.

And that is exactly what is happening.

It is time to accept the truth, however hard to swallow as Americans, that Barack Hussein Obama’s goal is to destroy the United States of America.

Go ahead, let everyone cry “conspiracy theorist” until hell freezes over. There is no other explanation.

Obama has turned America into a police state, with TSA agents’ presence expanding by the day.

Cameras peek into every nook and cranny of public space.

Bush’s Patriot Act has been discarded for something completely new: simply spy on everyone and everything.

The Utah Data Center in Bluffdale, built by an army of 10,000 construction workers and due to open in September, will be the biggest spy center in the world.  The one million square foot facility is so massive that it can store every single electronic communication for the next 100 years—and still have room to spare.

What exactly will the Utah Data Center be storing? Emails. Telephone calls. Tweets. Facebook posts. Travel records.  Credit card transactions. Bank records. Stock market trades. Google searches. In a word: everything. Oh, and by the way, this will all be done without

Are We Walking The Dark Side of the Web?

By Simon Graj, Contributor In 1962, a classic episode of Twilight Zone starred Lloyd Bochner and Richard Kiel – whom you’ll remember as the steel-toothed “Jaws” in the Roger Moore / James Bond flick Moonraker. The title of the Twilight Zone story was “To Serve Man.” In the tale, extraterrestrials land on earth maintaining they have arrived to share their technology along with every imaginable kindness. The twist in this episode, based on a story written by Damon Knight, is a cryptically titled book carried by the ET. Only too late do the human code-crackers discover that the volume – called To Serve Man – is actually a cookbook for dishing up earthlings, not a cosmic pledge of goodwill! …read more

Ten Years Later, It's Still Not Clear Why We Invaded Iraq

By John McQuaid, Contributor

Ten years after the start of the Iraq war, the media are filled with reflections, mea culpas, and the occasional tweet from the Twilight Zone. Usually, looking back on some important recent historical event, some kind of master narrative emerges about why things happened. Usually it’s oversimplified, and sometimes flat wrong. But it’s there. It says something about us, and helps us move on. …read more

3 killed in helicopter crash on set of reality TV show in California

Three people were killed Sunday in a pre-dawn helicopter crash in a rural area of northern Los Angeles County while filming for a new reality TV show for the Discovery Channel.

The copter crashed at about 3:40 a.m. at the popular filming location of Polsa Rosa Ranch in the city of Acton, Los Angeles County Fire dispatcher Robert Diaz said.

All three people aboard died, Diaz said. Their names weren’t immediately released.

The show, listed on a filming permit as an untitled military-theme TV program, had not yet been aired or announced by Discovery, channel spokeswoman Laurie Goldberg said.

“A production company was shooting a show for Discovery Channel when this tragic accident occurred,” the station said in a statement. “We are all cooperating fully with authorities. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families.”

The show’s production company, Eyeworks USA, best known for creating NBC’s “The Biggest Loser,” also issued a statement expressing sympathies to the victim’s families and saying they were cooperating with authorities.

The company had been approved to use a helicopter for a reality TV show shooting at the ranch from Saturday afternoon until Sunday morning, said Philip Sokoloski, a spokesman for FilmLA, which processes filming permits for location shootings in the Los Angeles region.

Records also showed Crossbow Helicopters received approval to participate in filming from the Federal Aviation Administration.

“We wouldn’t have referenced helicopter activity if we didn’t already have pre-approval from the FAA,” Sokoloski said.

The cause and other circumstances surrounding the crash are still unknown, Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Allen Kenitzer said.

Television footage showed mangled wreckage in a rugged canyon area near Soledad Canyon Road.

According to its website, Polsa Rosa is a “movie ranch” where film crews can utilize a variety of terrains as well as two airstrips. The ranch, according to the Internet Movie Database, was used in “Windtalkers” and last year’s remake of “Red Dawn.”

It was the site of another entertainment industry death in September, when a 48-year-old crew member died of an apparent heart attack while underwater in scuba gear on the set of the upcoming Johnny Depp film “The Lone Ranger”

Sunday’s wreck was also just 25 miles from a similar rural spot in Santa Clarita where actor Vic Morrow and two children were killed in another helicopter crash while filming the “Twilight Zone” movie in 1982.

That crash brought changes in production restrictions and led to producer John Landis and four others being charged with involuntary manslaughter. All were acquitted.
