Rayman Legends Delay Resulted in 30 New Levels

Ubisoft Montpellier has been able to add a large amount of new content to Rayman Legends as a result of the title’s delay.

Senior game manager Michael Micholic told Official Nintendo Magazine that the studio has been hard at work creating an additional 30 levels for the game, including new bosses.

“Trust me, the things we are adding aren’t minor,” he explained. “We’re not talking about adding some polish here and there, but 30 new levels and several new bosses.”

Michel Ancel Protests Rayman Legend Delay

Rayman creator and respected game designer Michel Ancel has joined forced with other members of the Rayman Legends development team to protest the game’s delay.

Photos were sent to Eurogamer by an anonymous reader showing Ancel and other members of the Rayman dev team holding a banner reading “Sortez nous Rayman. Soutient a Ubi Montpellier,” which translates as “Release Rayman. Show support for Ubisoft Montpelier.”

In the background of the image crowds can be seen holding banners, one of which holds the game’s original release date of February 26th while another is emblazoned with “Wii U”; the console that the game was being exclusively developed for before the delay. In the centre of the image, Rayman can be seen with tears rolling down his face while he says, “SVP” – “Please”.

Bayonetta 2, Wonderful 101 Will Stay Nintendo Exclusive

It would make sense that Nintendo gamers are a little wary of exclusives-gone-awry this week, what with both Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge and Rayman Legends — both originally announced as Wii U exclusives – would in fact be coming to PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 as well.

But there’s good news to be found if you’re a Nintendo fan eager for news about two other exclusives in particular. It seems that, for all intents and purposes, Platinum Games’ two upcoming projects – The Wonderful 101 and Bayonetta 2 – will stay exclusive to the Wii U.

Ubisoft’s Wii U Olive Branch: Exclusive Rayman Demo

Wii U gamers weren’t pleased when news broke that Rayman Legends was no longer exclusive to the console. Furthermore, the delay seemed to mostly be fueled by the fact that it’s being ported to Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Ubisoft’s decision caused us to contemplate Wii U’s struggle to remain relevant while Nintendo gamers themselves were curious why they couldn’t get the game sooner than their HD twin-playing brethren.

In an attempt to soothe the masses, Ubisoft has revealed that they’re working on an exclusive Wii U demo for the game. “Thanks for all your feedback regarding Rayman Legends in all of its forms,” a post on Ubisoft’s Facebook page reads. “We have heard you and we will continue to listen. We understand your frustration and that you want to get your hands on the game.”

Rayman Legends Delayed, No Longer Wii U Exclusive

Ubisoft has announced that Rayman Legends has been delayed and will no longer be a Wii U exclusive. Legends will now hit Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii U in early September, more than six months later than its original release date of February 26th.

At the DICE summit in Vegas, IGN spoke with Xavier Poix, managing director of Ubisoft’s French studios (including Ubisoft Paris, Annecy and Rayman developer Montpellier) about the reasons behind both the delay and the move to multiple consoles.

“When we saw all the comments when we announced the game would be focused on Wii U, all of the people that have both the PlayStation 3 and 360 were really disappointed,” Poix told IGN. “So we thought it was making more sense to also bring the game to where it was originally from. That means Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. So we decided to go for a multiplatform launch simultaneously.”
