Ubisoft has revealed a new lead assassin for the Assassin’s Creed franchise, who will debut in an upcoming graphic novel called “Assassin’s Creed: Brahman.”

Set in 19th century India, Brahman will introduce Arbaaz Mir, a man fighting oppression in his homeland, which remains under British rule. The project is being written by Brendan Fletcher with art by Cameron Stewart and Karl Kerschl, the artistic duo behind the two previous AC comic book projects.

Why Sony Is Betting On Indie Games For the PS4

By Dave Thier, Contributor

Octodad is the sort of game Adam Boyes, Vice President of Developer and Publisher relations at Sony, likes to talk about. It is, suffice to say, weird. You play a simple father, just trying to his best to exist in the world and raise his kids without anyone finding out that he’s an octopus. It’s coming out on Playstation in 2014 — Call of Duty it is not. Indie games may not usually make the sorts of earth-shattering release day sales as reliable AAA titles like Call of Duty or Assassin’s Creed, but Sony has made a serious commitment to small teams with the PS4, and it may prove a crucial advantage in the coming console generation. …read more

'Assassin's Creed III: Liberation' Composer Wins Game Audio Network Guild Award

By Jen Bosier, Contributor

In 2012, Ubisoft released a PS Vita-exclusive title in their Assassin’s Creed series, Assassin’s Creed III: Liberation. The game followed the first female assassin of the franchise, Creole aristocrat Aveline de Grandpré, through the bayous of Louisiana. Set along side the events of Assassin’s Creed III, Liberation was a surprisingly strong story and Aveline herself proved to be a wonderful character. The element which set this game apart the most, however, was Winifred Phillips‘ tremendous soundtrack. In fact, Phillips’ work was just acknowledged by the Game Audio Network Guild. The “Main Theme” won the award for “Best Original Vocal Song – Choral,” with good reason. Phillips’ blend of chorals and Creole sounds proved to be one of the most unique combinations last year, which may be why the G.A.N.G. award is one of a handful of awards the soundtrack won, in addition to several nominations.

The Best Hard Drives for the Wii U

One of the greatest features of the Wii U is its robust offerings within the Nintendo eShop. Whether it’s classic gaming (Punch-Out!!) or modern titles (Assassin’s Creed 3!), the eShop is an easy way to cut down on cartridge storage and acquire new titles quickly without bothering with a pre-order or traveling to the nearest big-box retailer.

But, one of the weakest features of the Wii U is its minuscule local storage. The basic model – which costs $299 and touts 8GB of memory – really only leaves about 3GB left over for game storage. The $349 premium model fares a little better, offering 25GB of storage, but could still hit capacity if you download a huge title like the 16GB monster Tekken Tag Tournament 2.

Uncharted's Nathan Drake Answers Your Questions

The other day Nolan North — Drake in Uncharted, Desmond in Assassin’s Creed, and so on — swung by IGN for an episode of Up at Noon. (That episode posts here on IGN at noon Pacific.) I — Greg Miller, host of Up at Noon — Tweeted for questions to ask him on the talk show, and we got so many, we broke North’s answers out into their own video below.

For added LOLz, watch Nolan do all of his voices. And Mario.

Greg is an executive editor at IGN, cohost of Podcast Beyond and host of Up at Noon. Follow IGN on Twitter, and keep track of Greg’s shenanigans on IGN and Twitter. Beyond!

Assassin's Creed Series Will Be Annual Until We Beg Them to Stop

By Paul Tassi, Contributor

If you’re like me, you were probably a bit surprised that Assassin’s Creed was getting another numbered installment so quickly, with Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag setting sail this fall. In truth, it’s now a part of Ubisoft’s mantra for the series, a new AC game every year until fans don’t want to play them anymore. Yes, it’s going full Call of Duty. …read more

Making Assassin's Creed IV's Multiplayer Relevant

Ubisoft has taken us on quite a ride alongside the Assassin’s Creed franchise over the past six years. At its height, the series delivered award contenders that transported players to fully-realized historical settings and helped redefine the open-world genre. The characters captivated, and the amazing sense of place left us in awe. But as the series morphed into an annualized product, many of us were left feeling that a lot of the magic contained within the series had fallen along the wayside. One major victim of this oversaturation has been the multiplayer.

Assassin’s Creed is still viewed primarily as a single-player experience. Unlike Call of Duty, Ubisoft’s historical franchise has never been able to create a strong enough multiplayer that stands on its own as a reason to purchase each new installment on a yearly basis. This certainly isn’t for lack of trying — since Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood back in 2010, each subsequent entry has placed a growing emphasis on the multiplayer component of the package, and yet the gaming masses haven’t seemed to bite quite yet. Despite containing a good-intentioned suite of interesting ideas, the online portion of the series seems to be missing that special something that makes gamers addicted for hundreds of hours. Here are a few ideas that Ubisoft could use to help right the ship and make AC‘s multiplayer relevant.
