Video: Fast and Furious 6 trailer redone with R/C cars

By Jonathon Ramsey

Filed under:

Whether or not you’ve seen and judged the trailer for the audio-oculo-neural assault that will be Fast and Furious 6 – you know, the one where an Alfa Romeo hatchback pulls down a military cargo jet at full throttle and then a pristine Dodge Charger erupts from the jet’s flaming nosecone – we’d like to recommend you check out a facsimile made with R/C cars. That means that none of the classic and current metal our own Michael Harley got to check out on the Universal lot was harmed during filming.

NitroRCX replaced all but a few of the driving scenes in trailer with its own R/C creations, and it’s a goof to watch – they’ve made a delightful parody of a franchise that’s become parodic. They even kept the flaming jet crash, but used an arguably cooler stand-in. You can watch the NitroRCX take below, and we’ve also added the actual movie trailer so you can compare and contrast.

Long Term: 2013 Nissan Pathfinder: March 2013

By Steven J. Ewing

Filed under:

Over the past few months, we’ve talked a lot about how our long-term 2013 Nissan Pathfinder functions as a daily-driver, long-hauler and all-weather warrior. And so far, it’s earning high praise from most of us for being a well-rounded, pleasant vehicle in these regards. But the vast majority of people who actually go out and buy a Pathfinder will do so because of its people-and-stuff-carrying abilities. Nissan specifically engineered the new Pathfinder to be a softer, more widely appealing crossover than the sort of rugged SUV that it was before, and in doing so, the company is hoping its new CUV will find homes in the garages of many American families.

We needed to get some family impressions of the new Pathfinder, and fast.

Thing is, many of us Autobloggers live the kid-free life – at least that’s true of most of us in the Detroit area where the Pathfinder currently resides. We have no doubts that the Pathfinder will get a proper family road trip workout from west coast editor Michael Harley after it shuffles over to the left side of the country, and it might also do a jaunt to North Carolina this summer with executive editor Chris Paukert and his family before it leaves the area, but in the meantime, we needed to get some family impressions of the new Pathfinder, and fast.

For the past couple of weeks, we handed our long-termer over to Autoblog and AOL Autos general manager and VP, Chris Eschenburg, who promised us lots of wife-and-kid impressions about this family-friendly vehicle.

Video: 2014 Honda Odyssey sucks it up for our editor

By Steven J. Ewing

Autoblog editor Michael Harley tries out the 2014 Honda Odyssey's new in-car vacuum - video screencap

Filed under:

When we heard that the 2014 Honda Odyssey would be getting the world’s first in-car vacuum, we had to check this thing out for ourselves. Called HondaVAC, this tidy little sucker was co-developed with Shop-Vac, and it’s actually pretty neat. It comes standard on Odyssey’s top-trim Touring Elite model and can be fitted with a wide range of attachments all housed in the cargo area. Honda notes that the vacuum hose is long enough to reach surfaces in every part of the Odyssey’s cabin, and that it will even run for a full eight minutes after the vehicle is turned off.

Good thing, then, that Honda chose to show off the new 2014 Odyssey here at the New York Auto Show, as Autoblog west coast editor Michael Harley clumsily managed to spill some snacks all over the cargo area (we tried to convince him to give himself a hickey, but he declined on grounds that his wife might not let him attend any more auto shows). Take a look at the video below to see just how well the new minivan cleans up.

Video: Watch this and try to guess what will power McLaren's P1 supercar

McLaren P1 supercar official development video - screencap

A few nights ago, our own Michael Harley visited the McLaren P1 at an event in Beverly Hills, California. A recording of the engine note was played, and that led to speculation that the P1 will get a hi-po version of the 3.8-liter V8 employed by the MP4-12C, rocking something like 800 horsepower.

McLaren has been testing the P1, getting it showroom ready for its 500-unit run, and part of that involves full-throttle test-track duty with its tail held high. After checking out the official development prototype “spy shots,” you can hear that engine note for yourself and guess how much flame spitting horsepower The Woking Wonder is pushing by watching the video below.
