More On Texas: If Prison Populations Decline, Does That Spell Trouble For Private Prison Companies?
Private prisons have a tough road to climb when it comes to garnering favor with the general public. One reason why is that private prison corporations such as Corrections Corporation of America and GEO Group (the company at the center of the “Owlcatraz” debacle at Florida Atlantic University) have built a very profitable business model around the fact that most states and the federal government incarcerate way too many people and need some outside guidance to stem the related costs. …read more

The 9 Worst Corporate Stadium Names in America
By Bruce Watson
Filed under: Market News, Advertising, Rumors, Sports
Last week, Florida Atlantic University announced plans to name its stadium after GEO Group, a privately-owned multinational prison corporation. The naming, which comes after GEO pledged to give $6 million to the university, has already drawn protests. On the amusing end of the spectrum, some critics are referring to the sports complex as “Owlcatraz,” after the school’s owl mascot. On the less amusing end, the naming deal has drawn attention to GEO‘s spotty history, including allegations of …

GEO Group Wikipedia Page Controversy Erased After Football Stadium Naming Deal
By The Huffington Post News Editors
GEO Group Inc., the nation’s second-largest private prison conglomerate, has until now mostly kept its brand far from the law-abiding public’s consciousness.
But this week, as the company donated $6 million as part of a naming rights deal for a college football stadium in Florida, brand image apparently became an elevated concern. Following reports in Deadspin, The Huffington Post and the New York Times on the stadium deal between GEO Group and Florida Atlantic University, a page about the company on Wikipedia suddenly came in for an extreme makeover, with all negative references excised.
A section on the Wikipedia page entitled “controversies,” which listed state and federal investigations and lawsuits claiming mistreatment of prisoners in GEO facilities, had disappeared. In its place was a new section, headlined “Quality of Operations,” which duplicated language in company filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
Liberals Will Soon Be Victims Of Their Own Corruption
Countless conspiracy theories have been advanced after the grisly and senseless murders at Sandy Hook. From dead children ostensibly filmed alive days after the shootings and mourning fathers inexplicably laughing before news cameras, to the incredible claim that “…the whole event was staged and never actually took place,” the American public has been assailed by any number of loons with a personal or group axe to grind.
It was James Tracy, a communications professor at Florida Atlantic University who claimed in early January that ” ‘…crisis actors’ may have been employed by the Obama administration in an effort to shape public opinion in favor of the event’s true purpose: gun control.” Were any American president capable of arranging the death of children—real or imagined–in order to advance a favored agenda it would be Barack Obama. But not even an individual imbued with this president’s total lack of class and honor would attempt a scam so easily unraveled!
But the Sandy Hook killings did bring to light two truths which the American public AND the federal government must take very seriously.
In the first instance, “all over the United States school children are being taken out of their classrooms, put on buses and sent to ‘alternate locations’ during terror drills. These exercises are often called “evacuation drills” or “relocation drills” and they are more than a little disturbing.”
Often mandated at the state level by “…politicians [who] have become obsessed with ‘school safety’…” or the advancement of pet agendas, one public school in Muskegon County, Michigan told student and teachers they were under attack by “…a fictitious radical group called Wackos Against Schools and Education who believe everyone should be homeschooled.” “Under the scenario, a bomb is placed on a bus and is detonated while the bus is traveling…causing the bus to land on its side and fill with smoke.”
Not to be outdone, a leftist-run school in New Jersey told students they were under attack by a group of “fundamentalist Christians,” called “The New Crusaders!” Naturally, this band of pro-Muslim “educators” mentioned NOTHING to students about the thousands of KNOWN terror attacks committed in the name of Islam.
“There will be an insurrection,” Charles Krauthammer told Fox audiences on 12-9-2012, “…should [the government] be willing to confiscate [guns]…” Sandy Hook was not manufactured by the Obama Regime, but its effect was certainly used by the left to press for draconian gun control legislation, featuring an “assault weapons” ban written by Diane Feinstein which would literally make it a federal crime to possess most of the weapons currently owned by the America public.
The government has both authored attempts to indoctrinate–indeed brainwash–America’s children as to the value of the liberal agenda and worked to demean those who honor the right to keep and bear arms. Sooner or later such arrogant attempts to meddle with or eradicate the inalienable rights of the American public will result in a revolt–an insurrection according to Krauthammer—from which the far left will not recover. And thousands of nanny-state and power hungry …read more

Police shoot homeless man on rooftop at Florida college
Police say they shot a homeless man on the Florida Atlantic University campus.
The incident Friday morning occurred on the rooftop of a building on the north side of FAU’s Boca Raton campus.
Authorities said the man was armed with a knife. He is hospitalized, but his condition has not been released.
The Palm Beach Post reports the shooting didn’t prompt any evacuation or lockdown. Police called it an isolated incident.
Boca Raton police and the state attorney’s office are investigating.
Florida school moves away from professor's claim that Sandy Hook massacre was staged
A public university in Florida is distancing itself from the controversial claims of a professor who questions whether last month’s horrific school massacre in Connecticut really happened.
James Tracy, an associate professor of media history at Florida Atlantic University, made the bizarre claim on his personal blog memoryholeblog.com, writing that the shooting that left 20 children and six adults dead may have been a government drill — or may have not even occurred. The Boca Raton school said Tracy, who has also questioned the official version of events of the Kennedy assassination, the 9/11 terror attacks and the Aurora, Colo., movie theater massacre, was speaking only for himself.
“James Tracy does not speak for the university,” Lisa Metcalf, FAU‘s director of media relations, told FoxNews.com in an email. “The website on which his post appeared is not affiliated with FAU in any way. As for any previous disciplinary actions at FAU, we do not comment on personnel matters.”
In a posting titled “The Sandy Hook Massacre: Unanswered Questions and Missing Information,” Tracy questioned how Adam Lanza was able to fire off so many shots in such little time and noted a lack of surveillance video or still images from the gruesome crime scene.
“Inconsistencies and anomalies abound when one turns an analytical eye to news of the Newtown school massacre,” Tracy, 47, wrote. “While it sounds like an outrageous claim, one is left to inquire whether the Sandy Hook shooting ever took place — at least in the way law enforcement authorities and the nation’s news media have described.”
Pressed by the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, Tracy acknowledged that “one is left with the impression that a real tragedy took place,” but suggested the Dec. 14 massacre was some sort of staged event.
“Was this to a certain degree constructed?” he asked. “Was this a drill?
Tracy’s mistrust is aimed equally at authorities and the media.
“A considerable amount of evidence has been withheld by authorities, who in a telling move have successfully postponed public disclosure of items culled from Nancy and Adam Lanza‘s residence and vehicles for an additional 90 days,” Tracy, 47, wrote on his blog on Friday. “At the same time, what has been revealed and captured in press reports suggests how, from missing suspects and evidence to unrevealed corpses, much is still unknown and mainstream news outlets have been at least complicit in what could conceivably be described as the Sandy Hook massacre’s constructed reality,” Tracy continued.
Tracy, who did not return calls for comment, told the Sun-Sentinel he considers his conspiracy mongering a scholarly endeavor.
“I describe myself as a scholar and public intellectual interested in going more deeply into controversial public events,” he said. “Although some may see [my theories] as beyond the pale, I am doing what we should be doing as academics.”
