False Prophets And Fake Presidents

By Allan Erickson

Obama Prophet SC False prophets and fake presidents

“I hear all the time the expression ‘the good old days.’ Well, the good old days, we forget they have been good for some, but they weren’t good for everybody. It drives me crazy when the captains of the religious right are always calling people back … for blacks to be back in the back of the bus, for women to be back in the kitchen, for gays to be in the closet, and for immigrants to be on their side of the border.”

So says Rev. Luis León, Rector of St. John’s Episcopal Church, situated not far from the White House.  León’s remarks were part of his Easter message March 31, with the First Family in attendance.  His church and his ministry endorse homosexuality, homosexual marriage, and practicing homosexuals in ‘ministry.’  Obviously, the ‘good’ pastor denies Scripture is inerrant, Christ’s clear assurance. Thus León, completely contradicts the Lord he claims to serve, which is, quite frankly, insane.

“It drives me crazy . . . “

Yes, one would have to be crazy to point the finger of accusation at fellow pastors and other Christian believers, accusing them of ridiculous things, on Easter Sunday no less.  León did not name the “captains of the religious right” who drive him crazy.  In the present day, such captains might include Tony Perkins, Mat Staver, Gary Bauer, Sarah Palin, Cal Thomas, Jay Sekulow, Billy Graham, or James Dobson, all good people holding to traditional values for legitimate reasons, none of which have anything to do with discrimination or persecution.

Not one of these good people has ever suggested blacks return to the back of the bus.  Blacks have not been forced to the back of the bus for more than 50 years.  Just as a reminder, it was the Christian Right in the 19th century that freed the slaves, helped slaves escape the South, died for justice in the Civil War, and ministered to the suffering of all colors during and after the war. Without the religious right, the civil rights movement would not have gained altitude.  Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was a Christian Republican, just for the record. Without Republican votes, the Civil Rights Act would never have passed.

No one has called women back to the kitchen.  Women, like Sarah Palin and millions of others, can freely choose home life, or a professional life, or both; and this has been true in growing measure since Christ liberated women, most especially in America.

Not one of these respectable Americans has insisted homosexuals stay in the closet.  Christians of all political affiliations have been the most loving toward homosexuals, demonstrating that love by providing far and away the most support when the AIDS epidemic struck.  Homosexuals enjoy the greatest freedom and prosperity here in America thanks to the traditions of tolerance and acceptance cultivated by centuries of Judeo-Christian tradition.

And no one from the religious right has ever denied anyone the right to immigrate.  Indeed, Christians have been the most supportive of new citizens.  Christians from the right and …read more

A Frightening Way to Push Netflix Stock to New Highs

By Tim Beyers, The Motley Fool

Filed under:

Television audiences can’t seem to get enough of bloody murder, and Netflix is more than happy to oblige. The streaming sensation releases all 13 episodes of new horror series Hemlock Grove on April 19, just three days before releasing first-quarter earnings.

Unlike political thriller House of Cards, which earns a remarkable nine out of 10 stars over more than 26,000 ratings at IMDB, Hemlock Grove is a genuine chiller in which a Rust Belt town is paralyzed by an unknown werewolf lurking among them:

Sources: Netflix, YouTube.

Can actor and horror director Eli Roth deliver as Kevin Spacey and David Fincher have? Netflix stock jumped nearly 10% in the week following the Feb. 1 debut of House of Cards, a high bar. In terms of ratings, the show also purportedly rivaled the HBO hit Girls during this debut week.

Roth, meanwhile, is known for playing the “Bear Jew” in Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds and for directing profitable torture flicks Hostel and Hostel II for Lions Gate Entertainment . Hemlock Grove doesn’t appear to be as harsh, but it’s a sure bet Roth’s werewolf will have a sharper and bloodier bite than the shirtless lycanthropes featured in the Twilight films.

Netflix is also airing Hemlock Grove at an interesting time. AMC Networks is coming off yet another record-setting season for apocalyptic drama The Walking Dead, which drew 12.4 million viewers during its Easter Sunday finale. Shares of AMC are up more than 27% year to date.

So get ready to get scared. Especially if you’re among the brave souls shorting Netflix stock right now.

Renew Our Founding Principles

By Michael Reagan

Billions of Christians around the world celebrated Easter last Sunday, but not our media.

Once again, the holiest day of the Christian year slipped under their godless radar.

I saw Easter pop up in the news a only few times last weekend, but the stories had nothing to do with God or religion or the importance to Christianity of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

The Easter “news” was Easter egg hunts. ABC and USA Today covered the 135th annual White House Easter Egg Roll like it was a nuclear arms treaty.

At an Easter egg hunt in Seattle, things turned bloody when two mothers got in a nasty fight after one pushed the other’s child. And the big Easter story out of Minnesota was that an egg hunt had to take place in the snow.

Meanwhile, on Easter Sunday morning, ABC’s “This Week” with George Stephanopoulos did its part to desecrate the holy day.

The show’s panel discussion on religion included an atheist who had complained three months ago that President Obama was wrong to speak of Jesus Christ at the memorial service for those killed in Newtown, Conn.

Marking Easter Day without mentioning its importance to Christians reminded me of something my father Ronald Reagan once said: “If we cease to be one nation under God, we’ll be a nation gone under.”

My father understood that the whole planet closely watches the actions of the United States. We’re seen by the rest of the world as a godly nation.

If we’re not leading the way, if we’re not serving as a good role model for the rest of the countries in the world, then who will? Russia? China?

If you don’t believe the world is watching us, here’s a little story about a man I met on the plains of Kenya.

I was staying at the Mara Safari Club when one of the Maasai warriors who worked there came up to me.

“Are you Ronald Reagan’s son?” he asked.

“Yes,” I said.

“I’ve seen you on TV on Larry King,” he explained.

I looked around me at the empty savannah and thought, “How in the world did he see me on CNN here in the middle of Africa?”

“You’re the Christian,” the Maasai man said.

“Yes.”

“You have a brother, Ron.”

“Yes.”

“He’s an atheist, isn’t he?”

“Yes.”

“I’ve seen him too on Larry King.”

Then the Maasai man asked me if I talked to my brother, Ron.

“Not often.” I said.

“The next time you talk to him,” the Maasai said, “tell him that there’s a Maasai warrior that prays for him every single day in Africa.”

As a Christian, and someone who was not praying for my brother and sisters every day at that time, I suddenly felt about an inch tall. Because of that encounter, I do pray for them now.

People wonder why the country is in the turmoil it is. Yet our godless media give us no moral principles to live by and nothing of eternal value to hang on to or reach for.

If you do strive for something spiritual or publicly express your faith in God and his …read more

Search growing increasingly urgent for 2 California teen hikers missing since Easter Sunday

The search for a young man and woman who vanished in Orange County’s Cleveland National Forest was to resume Wednesday morning, with the search growing more urgent with every hour since the teens were last heard from on Sunday night.

Parents of Nicholas Cendoya, 19, and Kyndall Jack, 18, hoped for a sign of their kids somewhere in the wooded area as experts and volunteers continued the hunt, sheriff’s Lt. Erin Guidice said.

Searchers were concentrating on an area of the Holy Jim Trail where a bloodhound picked up a scent during an overnight search, Guidice said. T

he Costa Mesa teens called authorities Sunday night saying they were lost about a mile from their car in Holy Jim Canyon, but their cellphone lost power soon afterward.

Friends who joined the search told KCAL9 that the couple is very active.

“They’re very fitness-oriented, so it’s not really a shocker that they’d be hiking but it’s a shocker that they’d be missing because of it,” Daniela Conderes told the station.

The rocky, tree-shaded dirt trail leads to a waterfall on a 2.8-mile round trip and is popular with day hikers. Its difficulty is listed as moderate to serious on a U.S. Forest Service website.

However, the lost hikers “did not keep to the trail,” Guidice said. The area has heavy brush and a creek running through it, she said.

Temperatures were moderate Friday, following an overnight low in the 50s. The area is in a section of the national forest in the Santa Ana Mountains, which lie along the border of Orange and Riverside counties southeast of Los Angeles.

The trail ranges in elevation from about 2,000 feet to about 4,000 feet.

Rhode Island parents moved to tears after Pope Francis hugs their disabled son

A Rhode Island couple says they were speechless and moved to tears when Pope Francis hugged and kissed their disabled 8-year-old son in St. Peter’s Square on Easter Sunday.

Paul and Christina Gondreau of Johnston and their five children attended Easter Mass at the Vatican. An usher directed the boy, Dominic, who has cerebral palsy, and his mother to an area designated for handicapped children, said Paul Gondreau, a theology professor at Providence College who is teaching this semester in Rome.

When the pope’s vehicle arrived, the same usher motioned to the driver to stop and with the help of the mother, held the boy up to Pope Francis, who took the boy in his arms and kissed him, The boy appeared to try to bring his right arm around to embrace the pontiff.

Videos and photos of the pontiff standing in the “popemobile” and holding Dominic were transmitted worldwide. Pope Francis also hugged and kissed other children as he greeted the crowd after Mass.

A story on the Providence College website says Paul Gondreau called the moment “an incredibly moving encounter.”

He says his son teaches him daily lessons about how to love.

Google Doodle Easter Dustup Portrays Faithful As Feckless

By The Huffington Post News Editors

Owing to the fact that I use the Google Chrome extension to do all my Web searching, I rarely have occasion to visit Google’s main page, and consequently, I miss out on all of the fun and whimsical Google “doodles” the search company regularly places there. Unless, of course, those doodles “make news.” And over the Easter holiday, one of those doodles did, diddling the domes of conservative Twitter trawlers, outraged that the Easter Sunday doodle celebrated the birthday of labor leader Cesar Chavez, as opposed to, I guess, something Eastery.

And so now we have this whole “Google’s War on Christianity” thing, even though as far as I can tell, everyone who visited the Google home page was mere seconds from being able to visit, you know … the Bible.

The whole kerfuffle was like an early version of the annual “War On Christmas,” in which we are led to believe that adherents of centuries-old religion, privileged enough to live in a country that provides a month of celebration in which every piece of media — from television shows, to the music at the coffee shop, to the lights on the street — inevitably leads back to the gospels and their telling of the birth of Jesus Christ. This includes an enormously popular childrens’ cartoon called, “A Charlie Brown Christmas” in which the gospel of Luke is recited aloud on network television.

Young Boy Protests North Carolina Methodist Church’s Gay Marriage Pledge (VIDEO)

By The Huffington Post News Editors

A young demonstrator took aim at North Carolina’s Green Street United Methodist Church after its recent pledge to stop performing weddings until same-sex marriage is legalized.

As Good As You blogger Jeremy Hooper first reported, the boy — who is not identified — stood in front of the Winston-Salem church on Easter Sunday with a placard that read, “Jesus Must Be Your Lord Or He Will Not Be Your Savior.”

“The Bible talks about the homosexuals — they’re worthy of death,” the boy proclaims, as seen in video footage of the protest which was also posted on Hooper’s site. “They’re worthy of death, and you people approve of them! That’s why you’re going to Hell without Jesus Christ. You can turn from your sin!”

Easter Sunday At The Hollywood Bowl: An Old Los Angeles Tradition

By The Huffington Post News Editors

Songs of praise and joy rose from the cavernous shell of the Hollywood Bowl on Easter Sunday, spilling into the crowds of thousands of faithful who had gathered at the famed outdoor amphitheatre to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Sunshine peaked through gray clouds overhead, keeping back what was forecasted to be a possibly wet morning. Worshippers donned their best California casual wear: from light colored retro suits and skinny ties to fancy, wide brimmed hats, as well as bright pink, yellow and blue spring dresses that stood out against the deep green, rain nourished pine trees on the hills that surround the Hollywood Bowl.

No matter where they were from, Silver Lake or San Fernando, Eagle Rock or Bel Air, the thousands who flocked to the Bowl came to renew their faith in an ancient message that is at the cornerstone of Christianity: He is risen.

Pope Francis links Turin Shroud to Jesus Christ as cloth is shown on television for Easter

By hnn

Francis made his first remarks on the mysterious cloth since being elected Pope in a special video message as the shroud was shown live on television for only the second time in its history.

His remarks came on Holy Saturday, which falls between the commemoration of Christ’s crucifixion on Good Friday and his resurrection on Easter Sunday.

Francis referred to the 14ft-long strip of sepia fabric, which is imprinted with the face and body of a bearded man, as “the Holy Shroud” and asked: “How is it that the faithful, like you, pause before this icon of a man scourged and crucified? It is because the Man of the Shroud invites us to contemplate Jesus of Nazareth….
