HUFFPOST HILL – Mike Enzi Needs A Hug

By The Huffington Post News Editors

Liz Cheney will challenge Mike Enzi for his Senate seat, though it’ll be hard to establish Wyoming residency from a bunker in an undisclosed location. Febreze sales skyrocketed as concerned liberals endured a heatwave in their solidarity hoodies. And bears are running amok because sequestration cut funding for park rangers, endangering campers and threatening our nation’s pic-a-nic basket supply. This is HUFFPOST HILL for Tuesday, July 16th, 2013:

WYOMING: LIZ CHENEY TO CHALLENGE MIKE ENZI – What on Earth is left to be said when running to the right of Mike Enzi? (“In 2010 Mike Enzi SAID he loves America, but Mike Enzi supports compound adjectives, which have well-established Al-Qaeda ties. Mike Enzi: Bad for business, Bad for Wyoming.”) AP: “Former Vice President Dick Cheney’s daughter Liz Cheney will run against Wyoming’s senior U.S. senator in next year’s Republican primary, her campaign said Tuesday. Cheney, 46, is the elder of Dick Cheney’s two daughters. Her announcement is a political challenge unlike anything Wyoming has seen for years, maybe decades – Republicans in the state rarely challenge incumbents in national office. All three members of the state’s congressional delegation and all statewide elected officials are Republican. Yet Cheney’s interest in the seat has been an open secret for months. Last year, Cheney and her husband bought a home in the posh northwest Wyoming community of Jackson Hole. She has been in the public eye in recent years as a Fox News political commentator…US Sen. Mike Enzi also announced Tuesday he was planning to seek a fourth term, making clear he was seeking re-election bid more than six months earlier than he has in the past.” [HuffPost]

Cheney wrong again

By hnn

It’s one of Margaret Thatcher’s most memorable quotes, spoken to President George H.W. Bush after Iraq’s 1990 invasion of Kuwait: “Remember, George, this is no time to go wobbly.”

It evokes the image of a weak-spined Bush, bolstered by the Iron Lady.

Dick Cheney, the defense secretary who would become vice president, recently called it “an old wives’ story.”

And we said: Really?

Dick Cheney: Condoleezza Rice Was ‘Wrong’ For Not Handling Syria Like Iraq

By The Huffington Post News Editors

Former Vice President Dick Cheney revives a dispute with former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice in an upcoming documentary, criticizing his former President George W. Bush administration colleague for rebuffing him on a decision that Cheney said believed have returned the nation to Iraq War-era levels of greatness.

In an interview given for the Showtime documentary, “The World According to Dick Cheney,” which is set to air on March 15, Cheney spoke about the administration’s deliberations over how to handle reports that Syria was developing a nuclear reactor in 2007.

Cheney wanted to bomb the site. Rice opted for a diplomatic route that involved taking the issue before the United Nations. The reactor was eventually destroyed by an Israeli air strike. Here’s what Cheney said of the incident in the film, via Foreign Policy.

Walter Jones, GOP Congressman, Hits Dick Cheney Over Iraq War

By The Huffington Post News Editors

Rep. Walter Jones (R-N.C.), an outspoken critic of the war in Afghanistan, said at a conference Saturday that former Vice President Dick Cheney would probably end up in hell for the Iraq War.

“Congress will not hold anyone to blame. Lyndon Johnson‘s probably rotting in hell right now because of the Vietnam War, and he probably needs to move over for Dick Cheney,” Jones said at a Young Americans for Liberty conference in Raleigh, N.C. The group is a spinoff from former Rep. Ron Paul’s (R-Texas) 2008 presidential campaign.

During his keynote address to the group, he praised Paul. “I want to give credit to the man who helped me understand if you’re ever going to send young men and women to die, it needs to be with the Constitution and debated by the Congress,” he said.
