Amazon Studios has announced that is has given the greenlight to six original comedy pilots from a pool of talent ranging from The Daily Show’s Kristen Schaal, The Onion’s Will Graham and Dan Mirk and The Big Bang Theory’s Kevin Sussman and John Ross Bowie, THR reports.
The studio’s plan is to make the pilots available on Amazon Instant Video for free viewing once they are complete, and then utilize viewer feedback to select which of the contenders will receive a full series order. The shows that make it through will be available exclusively to Amazon Prime members.
“Since launching our original series development effort, we have received more than 2,000 series ideas from creators around the world with all different backgrounds, and we are extremely excited to begin production on our very first set of pilots. The six comedy pilots will begin production shortly, and once they are complete, we plan to post the pilots on Amazon Instant Video for feedback. We want Amazon customers to help us decide which original series we should produce,” Roy Price, director of Amazon Studios said.

Leaving aside the less-than-blockbuster news of mini and slimmed current-gen systems, there were two significant games machine launches in 2012, both of which employed innovative and interesting game control techniques. PlayStation Vita is a marvellous piece of design, employing multiple input possibilities. Wii U is yet another example of Nintendo’s genius for seizing the moment. While other companies dabble with screen-controls, Nintendo went ahead and launched something with a built-in touchscreen controller. Yet both have major challenges ahead if they are to thrive. Elsewhere, hardware innovations came in the form of Ouya’s announcement, an Android-based games console as well as the unveiling of an interesting Virtual Reality project, Oculus Rift. Valve was in and out of the news with talk of its first foray into games hardware. Cloud gaming had a mixed year with OnLive’s troubles and Gaikai‘s purchase by Sony. So far as the future goes, the games industry throws up a mixture of companies that wait-and-see, and those that jump right on in.

Nintendo will launch TVii in North America on December 20th. TVii will launch for free, offering “a free, integrated service for the recently launched Wii U console that combines what you watch and how you watch into one seamless, second-screen experience,” according to Nintendo.
TVii will launch with support for cable and satellite providers in both the U.S. and Canada as well as support for Amazon Instant Video and Hulu Plus. Nintendo notes that “further integration with Netflix subscriptions and TiVo are expected in early 2013 in the United States,” though Netflix can currently be accessed separately from the Netflix app outside of TVii.
Users can confirm which services they’re subscribed to upon the initial set-up of TVii. When using the service, players can also “discover more information about what they’re watching by easily accessing information on the GamePad via an Internet connection, including cast details, movie reviews from Rotten Tomatoes and sports data such as live stats and scores.”

By Forrester ResearchForrester’s annual report on The State Of Consumers And Technology: Benchmark 2012, US is now available. This report is a graphical analysis of a range of topics about consumers and technology and serves as a benchmark for understanding how consumers have changed over the years. For those of you who aren’t familiar with our benchmark report, it’s based on Forrester’s annual Technographics® benchmark survey that we’ve been fielding since 1998 and for which we interview close to 60,000 US online adults. The report covers a wide range of topics, such as online activities, device ownership ? including penetration data and forecasts for smartphones and tablets ? media consumption, retail, social media, and a deep dive on mobile.
We analyze our findings through a generational lens, including Gen Z, Gen Y, Gen X, Younger Boomers, Older Boomers, and the Golden Generation. Age is a key factor behind consumers? usage of and attitudes toward technology. However, one finding spans the generations: Consumers of all ages embrace the opportunity to find information and connect with people and brands wherever they are. And while online penetration in the US remains the same as a year ago ? at 79% of all adults ? the depth of Internet usage has grown; more consumers go online on a daily basis and they connect on more devices. The graphic below illustrates our point: US smartphone owners use their device almost everywhere. They aren?t just connecting at home, but wherever they go; in fact, they?re more likly to access the Internet on their phone in a store than in their own kitchen.

After testing the feature on a small subset of accounts earlier this week, Twitter has opened up its new Twitter archive tool to the public, allowing users to download a complete backlog of all of their posts and retweets. The Twitter archive feature allows users to view and sort days, months, weeks, or years worth of tweets with the capacity to search for specific keywords, user mentions, or hashtags and interact with them the same way they would current posts. While the function is still rolling out in waves, users will soon find the option to request an archive in the settings pane of their Twitter profile via any web browser. Once requested, users will receive an email with instructions about how to access their archived tweets.
