Wayne State, University of Michigan Funding Could Be Cut By GOP After Right To Work Clash

After two Michigan universities circumvented new anti-union laws to lock in new labor contracts, Republican legislators in the state House are striking back with a new move to slash state funding to both schools.

Right-to-work legislation, which prevents employers from signing union contracts that require all workers to pay union dues, was signed by Gov. Rick Snyder in December. Snyder and state Republicans unexpectedly pushed the legislation through in a lame-duck legislative session after the governor had previously opposed it.

The Detroit Free Press reports that a budget bill sent to the floor by the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Higher Education would cut $27.5 million to Wayne State University and $47.3 million to the University of Michigan’s Ann Arbor, Flint and Dearborn campuses.

Pall Responds to Dioxane Article

With regard to the cleanup at the former Gelman Sciences facility in Ann Arbor, Michigan, Pall is in full compliance with the Consent Judgment it entered with the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality(MDEQ), which serves as the legal framework for the cleanup.

Data Management and Access

On a monthly basis, Pall sends the State of Michigan all site data required under the approved monitoring plan. The data is provided in an electronic format so that it can be easily downloaded into the historical database the State maintains as part of its oversight of the cleanup. Pall also sends these updates electronically to a number of governmental and private parties. Pall works with the State?s staff to make sure that these monthly updates can be easily downloaded and that the State?s database is sufficient to meet its needs. The database is not hosted at Wayne State University.

State-of-the-Art Ozone-Oxidation Treatment Technology

Pall?s state-of-the-art Ozone-Oxidation treatment technology has been approved by the State of Michigan and the City of Ann Arbor and is being used in the cleanup effort.
