Spring Breakers Review

From the mischievous mind of Harmony Korine – screenwriter of Kids and director of Mr Lonely and Trash Humpers – comes Spring Breakers, a flashy attack on consumerism and the American dream that plays like an arthouse episode of Girls Gone Wild.
And while it’s hardly mainstream material, the film will doubtless find an audience and generate plenty of column inches thanks to the presence of Tween heroines Vanessa Hudgens and Selena Gomez, both of whom de-Disneyfy their images as the film becomes ever darker and more explicit.
That said, Korine starts as he means to go on and proceedings commence with a lengthy montage of topless girls chugging beers on the beach and licking red, white and blue ice lollies in lengthy slow-motion shots. Subtle it ain’t.

There’s a scene in “Spring Breakers” where its young stars belt out Britney Spears‘ debut single, “… Baby One More Time,” and during a Q&A session at a South by Southwest Film Festival panel, fans managed to pressure the film’s cast into giving an impromptu performance.
On Monday, the film’s stars Selena Gomez, Ashley Benson and Rachel Korine launched into an a capella verse of Spears’ hit tune, before singing along to the karaoke version of the song. It wasn’t a bad rendition, and it even got the approval of Britney herself:

Former Disney star Selena Gomez is ready to release what has been called her most “confessional” album yet and the pop singer might be getting a head start with a recent dance video possibly aimed at Justin Bieber.
In a new YouTube video, the 20-year-old actress and her friends dance to a choreographed routine of Dustin Tavella’s “Everybody Knows.” The song features the jilted lyric, “Your boyfriend is a douchebag/ And everybody knows.”
