I was appalled when Ohio Republican Senator Rob Portman came out last week and endorsed same-sex marriage because his son is a homosexual. Portman decided that supporting his son’s sinful lifestyle was more important than what his faith says on the subject.
However, after hearing what Reince Priebus, Chairman of the Republican National Committee told Susan Page from USA Today, I am ready to drop my affiliation with the GOP and take my vote to either the Libertarian or Independent Parties.
Page asked Priebus about the GOP 2016 platform and whether it would endorse same-sex marriage.
Page: “Karl Rove said in a Sunday TV interview that he thought it was possible, that he could imagine the 2016 Republican presidential nominee supporting same-sex marriage. Can you imagine that? Is that conceivable to you?”
Priebus: “I’m not sure, you know that I can’t look through that crystal ball, but I think you see people like Marco Rubio and Rand Paul are talking about states’ rights and the Tenth Amendment. Obviously you hear a lot of that in our Party. My position is that marriage is between a man and a woman but my other position is that you treat people with dignity and respect, love and grace, and so I think they’re all compatible with each other. I don’t believe we need to act like Old Testament heretics either…”

WASHINGTON — Over strong objections from some conservative leaders, the Republican National Committee formally endorsed immigration reform on Monday and outlined plans for a $10 million outreach to minority groups — gay voters among them — as part of a strategy to make the GOP more “welcoming and inclusive” for voters who overwhelmingly supported Democrats in 2012.
In a report released Monday, the RNC says that the way the party communicates its principles isn’t resonating widely enough and that focus groups perceive the party as “narrow minded,” ”out of touch” and “stuffy old men.”
“The perception that we’re the party of the rich unfortunately continues to grow,” Reince Priebus, the RNC chair, said in a Monday morning speech.
To broaden its appeal, the party must reach out to minority voters and others, according to one recommendation in the report: “We must embrace and champion comprehensive immigration reform. If we do not, our party’s appeal will continue to shrink,” it said.
Acknowledging the tough road ahead for some immigration reform in a divided GOP, Priebus after the speech refused to say whether “comprehensive immigration reform” should include a pathway to citizenship and distanced himself from some of the report’s recommendations.

WASHINGTON — Reeling from back-to-back presidential losses and struggling to cope with the country’s changing racial and ethnic makeup, the Republican National Committee plans to spend $10 million this year to send hundreds of party workers into Hispanic, black and Asian communities to promote its brand among voters who overwhelmingly supported Democrats in 2012.
Committee chairman Reince Priebus on Sunday also proposed shortening the presidential nominating calendar in 2016 and limiting the number of primary-season debates to avoid the self-inflicted damage from inside-party squabbling on the eventual nominee. Priebus’ top-to-bottom changes include picking the moderators for the debates and then crowning the nominee as early as June so he or she could begin a general election campaign as quickly as possible.
