Mayhem, chaos and the Just Cause 2 multiplayer mod
I mentioned this JC2-MP six months ago when it was first generating some popularity in the PC gaming world. It was chaotic, buggy and a ton of fun. If you own Just Cause 2 (which is ridiculously cheap on most digital distribution platforms, including Steam) you need to play this mod. The fun factor of your weekend depends on it.
It only comes around once in a while, but every so often the guys designing the mod will announce a 48-hour playtest period where upwards of 1,000 players can hop into one server and make the island of Panau their personal playground. This weekend is one of those times. At midnight PST tonight, the server will open and the players will flood in.
If you own the game, you should be one of them. Thankfully, installing the mod is a cinch; head to the website’s download page at midnight to get the installer. The instructions are all bundled and it only takes about two minutes to complete. From there, all you need to do is type in the correct IP address (also provided) and pray for a decent connection.
IdolNinjaJoin a car race, enter the destruction derby, hijack a helicopter, ride on top of an airliner with a pilot who has no idea what he’s doing or simply parachute over everyone and take in the hilarity. There’s really no limits on the fun to be had.

Plane lands safely after pilot loses consciousness
An Alaska Airlines spokesman says a Seattle-bound jetliner made an emergency landing in Portland, Ore., after the pilot lost consciousness.
Airline spokesman Paul McElroy says the co-pilot landed Flight 473 safely Thursday night after declaring an emergency to get priority care for the pilot.
The spokesman says the pilot lost consciousness “somewhere over Oregon.” He later regained consciousness and left the cockpit. McElroy says a doctor on board tended to him in the cabin. The pilot has been taken to a hospital but there was no immediate word on his condition.
The Boeing 737-700 with 116 passengers and five crew members left Los Angeles about 6:30 p.m. PST and touched down in Portland at about 9 p.m.
McElroy says the pilot has been flying for Alaska for 28 years and was current on his six-month medical evaluation.

Official: Set Your DVRs! Autoblog's The List to be broadcast on Speed
By John Neff
We have some exciting news to share: Speed channel will begin airing Autoblog’s The List as its own half-hour television show, beginning February 5th at 10:30 PM EST and PST. The car-centric cable channel will also air half-hour episodes of our sister show, Translogic, at 10:00 PM EST and PST. Consider it the AOL Autos/Autoblog Power Hour on Speed.
We were very honored many months ago when Speed approached us about converting The List into a TV show, and couldn’t be happier that its premiere, along with that of Translogic, is less than a week away. After next week’s premiere, new episodes will air every Tuesday at the same time each week.
If you’ve been watching the show on Autoblog, these initial half-hour episodes of The List on Speed might be ones you’ve already seen, since the first season of the show as it appeared on the website has been deftly converted into episodes that will work on the small screen. Partnerships like this, however, as well as the show’s new sponsor, Allstate, have allowed us to start shooting new episodes for the second season, all of which will debut here on Autoblog first. In fact, Jessi and Patrick are in Alaska checking off a list item as we speak.
It’s great recognition for us and the show’s producers at AOL Studios that Speed saw something special in The List and Translogic (this is the first time ever that AOL‘s premium original video content will be televised), and we’re so excited to share this series that we had so much fun making with an entirely new audience. Be sure to check out the premiere this Tuesday, February 5 at 10:30 PM EST/PST!

Military jets escort Alaska Air flight after hijacking scare
Two F-15 fighter jets were scrambled to escort an Alaska Airlines flight from Kona, Hawaii to Sea-Tac Airport in Seattle after someone reportedly told the Federal Bureau of Investigation there was a hijacker on board the plane.
Q13 FOX News reported that Flight 819 landed at Sea-Tac without incident shortly after 7 p.m. PST and the FBI detained and questioned a passenger who reportedly had slept through most of the flight.
There was no threat to public safety, the FBI told Q13 FOX News.
The threat was called into the FBI‘s Honolulu office Thursday afternoon and the bureau subsequently informed other agencies and local authorities in Seattle of the call, according to FBI spokesman Tom Simon.
“They were trying to figure out why the man is described as a hijacker. It could be a crank,” Simon told Fox News.
Simon said the passenger in question did not show any unusual behavior on the flight.
“If this turns out to be hoax phone call the FBI in Honolulu will take this very seriously,” Simon said.
An investigation into the phone call is ongoing, according to the FBI.
