Peter Jackson Wanted For Doctor Who by Stars

Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy and Paul McGann have told journalists in New Zealand that they’d like to see Peter Jackson direct a story for Doctor Who, amid celebrations of the series’ 50th anniversary.

According to Stuff, the trio agree with Who star Matt Smith‘s idea that The Lord of the Rings director should get involved with the show, with any episodes he’s involved in being filmed in New Zealand.

There’s a fair chance they may get their wish, too; it’s been revealed that Jackson has already met the show’s executive producer and head writer Steven Moffat to discuss the idea.

Blomkamp: I'd Still Love to Make Halo, But …

It’s one of the most infamous video game movie adaptations that never happened, but the filmmaker who almost brought it to the big screen would still love to take a crack at it — if he could make it on his terms.

Halo The Movie: What We Want

The film is Halo and the director is Neill Blomkamp, who, along with producer Peter Jackson, tried in vain to get the project off the ground several years ago until its massive budget and studio concerns caused it to fall apart. After Halo imploded, Blomkamp and Jackson went on to make the sci-fi hit District 9, which earned an Oscar nomination for Best Picture.

The Hobbit 3 Gets Pushed Back

They say a wizard is never late, but in the case of The Hobbit: There and Back Again, Gandalf and company will be slightly delayed.

Deadline reports that Warner Bros. has pushed back the release date of Peter Jackson‘s third and final Hobbit film, moving its original date of July 14, 2014, to December 17, 2014. The fantasy feature will now avoid going head-to-head against Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Days of Future Past and is thus far debuting solo in the December 17 slot.

The next installment in the franchise, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, is still scheduled to open on December 13 of this year.

The Hobbit Passes Two LOTR Movies

Say what you will about Peter Jackson‘s first installment of The Hobbit, but there’s no denying that the Lord of the Rings director’s latest trip to Middle-earth has been a box office knockout. That was made even clearer this week when The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey surpassed two of its predecessors: The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring and The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers.

Since its debut on December 14, The Hobbit has earned $939,859,000 worldwide, according to Box Office Mojo, with foreign figures (69%) putting it over the top. Domestically, however, the prequel film is up to $293.2 million, which is still short of all three The Lord of the Rings movies.

SNL Parodies The Hobbit

Many eyebrows were raised when Peter Jackson decided to turn the relatively short novel, The Hobbit, into first two and then three movies. This weekend, Saturday Night Live looked at what might be the results if Jackson decided to go even further and turn it into a 19-part series.

Look for SNL guest host Jennifer Lawrence as the Galadriel inspired “Elf Queen” and a particularly blunt joke about Jackson’s controversial decision to shoot in 48fps (it’s safe to say SNL‘s writers were not a fan of the look). And mark your calendars for movies like The Hobbit 4: Apple Maps: An Unexpected Detour!

The Reason Why Many Found The Hobbit At 48 FPS An Unexpectedly Painful Journey

By Anthony Wing Kosner, Contributor The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is a roaring success. Film critics have not been as positive about The Hobbit as fans, but they positively heaped elevenses of derision upon Peter Jackson‘s decision to “experiment” with High Frame Rate in such a high profile feature.

Reasons To See The Hobbit For The Xth time.

1st time: It’s Peter Jackson and I loved The Lord of the Rings so this has to be good.

2nd time: I fell asleep because I went to the midnight screening. I have to see it a second time to make sure I understood the whole movie and didn't miss something.

3rd time: I can't really be sure that there isn't some after-credits scene unless I've stayed in the theater until after the credits. I have to see it a third time.

Will The Hobbit's Success Overshadow The First Tolkien Film Trilogy?

By John Farrell, ContributorVideoThis week I discussed the new Hobbit blockbuster film with author/blogger and fellow Tolkien fan, Mark Shea.
