Rare Florida panther released back into the wild

A Florida panther rescued as a kitten has made a rare run back into the Everglades.

The 2-year-old male panther poked its head out of a crate and then sprinted several hundred yards down a gravel road before disappearing into the brush Wednesday in Palm Beach County.

Wildlife officials rescued the panther and its sister in September 2011 after their mother was found dead. The kittens were raised at the White Oak Conservation Center in Yulee since they were 5 months old.

Officials say the cats are now big enough to survive on their own. The female panther was released in February.

It’s rare for panthers to be raised in captivity and then released. The panther is an endangered species. Only around 160 are believed to remain in southern Florida.

Democrat Denies Involvement With Underage Prostitutes

Bob Menendez SC Democrat Denies Involvement With Underage Prostitutes

WASHINGTON (OfficialWire) — Sen. Robert Menendez’s office said Wednesday that he traveled three times on a plane owned by a prominent Florida political donor but that the trips were paid for and reported appropriately. At the same time, Menendez’s office said unsubstantiated allegations the senator engaged in sex with prostitutes in the Dominican Republic are false.

The FBI searched the West Palm Beach, Fla., office of the donor — eye doctor Salomon Melgen — on Tuesday night and early Wednesday, but it was unclear if the raid was related to Menendez, a New Jersey Democrat.

Records filed in Palm Beach County show an Internal Revenue Service lien against Melgen of more than $11.1 million for unpaid taxes from 2006 through 2009. Prior liens for taxes from 1998 to 2002 were subsequently withdrawn, records show.

The Daily Caller, a conservative website, reported shortly before the November election that Menendez traveled on Melgen’s private plane to the Dominican Republic to engage in sex with prostitutes.

Menendez’s office said that any accusations of engaging with prostitutes “are manufactured by a politically motivated right-wing blog and are false.”

At FBI headquarters in Washington, spokesman Jason Pack said the bureau “cannot comment on the existence or status of an investigation.” Justice Department spokeswoman Tracy Schmaler also declined to comment.

FBI raids office of doctor tied to Sen. Menendez, report says

The FBI late Tuesday night raided the office of a South Florida eye doctor who allegedly provided young prostitutes to Sen. Bob Menendez.

The Miami Herald reports thatFBI agents removed items from Dr. Salomon Melgen’s West Palm Beach, Fla., business as part of an investigation believed to be focusing on Melgen’s finances and allegations about prostitutes.

Melgen, a top contributor to Menendez’s federal campaigns, has an outstanding IRS lien of $11.1 million for taxes owed between 2006 to 2009, according to records obtained from the Palm Beach County recorder’s office, the newspaper reported.

The Daily Caller reported in November that Menendez, D-N.J., allegedly had sexual relations with several prostitutes at Melgen’s mansion in the Dominican Republic.

The senator‘s office has rejected the prostitution charges for months.

The FBI last week declined to comment on the release ofemails appearing to show the agency communicating with an individual claiming to know about Menendez’ liaisons.

A spokeswoman for Menendez told FoxNews.com that the emails were “unsubstantiated garbage.”

Attempts by The Miami Herald to reach Melgen and a spokesman for Menendez for comment Tuesday were unsuccessful.

Brazilian national reportedly occupies empty $2.5 million Florida mansion

Squatting never looked so good.

A 23-year-old Brazilian national has reportedly moved into an empty $2.5 million Florida mansion, using an obscure state real estate law to stake his claim on the foreclosed Boca Raton waterfront property.

The South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports that Andre Barbosa cannot be moved by police since no one saw him breaking into the 5-bedroom house, making it a civil matter. And representatives for the home’s true owner, Bank of America, said they are aware of the situation and are undergoing a legal process. But that’s not good enough for Barbosa’s wealthy neighbors.

“This is a very upsetting thing,” neighbor Lyn Houston told the newspaper. “Last week, I went to the Bank of America and asked to see the person in charge of mortgages. I told them, ‘I am prepared to buy this house.’ They haven’t even called me back.”

Barbosa — who refers to himself as “Loki Boy,” presumably after the Norse god of mischief — did not return calls. He posted a notice in the front window naming him as a “living beneficiary to the Divine Estate being superior of commerce and usury.”

A spokeswoman for Bank of America said the company has sent a complaint and an eviction notice to a clerk in Palm Beach County.

“The bank is taking this situation seriously and we will work diligently to resolve this matter,” said spokeswoman Jumana Bauwens.

Sunrise real estate lawyer Gary Singer said Barbosa is invoking a state law called “adverse possession,” which allows someone to move into a property and claim the title — if they can stay there seven years. A signed copy of that note is also posted in the home’s front window, the newspaper reports.
