Kia Cadenza

The Kia Cadenza is a large, luxurious sedan that’s a step larger than the Optima in Kia’s lineup. Competing with a large group of sedan models such as the Ford Taurus, Toyota Avalon, Hyundai Azera, Nissan Maxima, Acura RDX, and Volvo S80, the Cadenza is essentially a luxury sedan judging by its feature set alone, and serves to pull the brand…

Airbag Recall: Toyota, Nissan And Honda Recall Millions Of Vehicles Globally

By The Huffington Post News Editors

* Japanese parts maker Takata says supplied the problematic airbags
* Takata says also supplied the airbags to foreign carmakers
* Fix to take about one hour or more – carmakers
* Carmakers increasingly using common or similar parts to cut costs
By Yoko Kubota
TOKYO, April 11 (Reuters) – Four Japanese automakers including Toyota Motor Corp, and Nissan Motor Co are recalling 3.4 vehicles sold around the world because airbags supplied by Takata Corp are at risk of catching fire or injuring passengers.
The move announced on Thursday is the largest recall ever for airbags made by Takata, the world’s second largest supplier of airbags and seatbelts. Shares of Takata tumbled almost 10 percent in Tokyo trading.
The recall is the largest since Toyota pulled back more than 7 million vehicles in October. The scale of the recent safety actions underscore the risk of huge global supply chain problems as automakers increasingly rely on a handful of suppliers for common or similar parts to cut costs, analysts have said.
The recall covers some of the top-selling Japanese cars, including Toyota’s Camry and Corolla, and rivals like the Nissan Maxima and Honda Civic. All of the vehicles in question were manufactured in or after 2000.
In an accident, the airbag for the front passenger seat may not inflate correctly because of a manufacturing defect in the propellant used in the airbag inflator, the companies said. As a result, there is a risk of fires starting or of passengers being injured.
Toyota, Honda and Nissan said there were no reports of injuries or deaths because of the defective airbags.
The recall is the largest for Takata since 1995 when the Tokyo-based company was involved in a recall of over 8 million vehicles because of defective seatbelts.

24 Hours of LeMons Sears Pointless: The Winners!

By Murilee Martin

174 teams started the race on Saturday, and perhaps 90 were still running when the checkered flag waved on Sunday evening. The fourth annual Sears Pointless 24 Hours of LeMons proved to be the engine-killingest, metal-bendingest race we’ve seen in quite some time, which made victory all the sweeter for the teams that went home with trophies.

Overall, Class A Winner: If It’s Not Punk It’s Junk
These days, the mohawk-equipped ’92 BMW 525i of If It’s Not Punk It’s Junk and the Dos Equis-themed ’83 BMW 533i of Cerveza Racing are the cars to beat in West Coast LeMons racing. The Cerveza car was the race leader for most of the weekend, but the Punks grabbed the lead late on Sunday, built it up to two laps, and took the win. Zero black flags, zero mechanical ailments, and some very fast lap times were the keys to victory (again) for this team.

Class B Winner: The Flyin’ Hawaiians & 2 White Guys
The Flyin’ Hawaiians’ smog-carburetor-equipped Datsun 260Z had proven to be so unutterably terrible in previous races that the LeMons Supreme Court showed some mercy and classed the team in B this time. Next thing we knew, the team had managed to get their battered Datsun into 14th place overall, beating the nearest B competitor (an S10 pickup with 2,000 watts of audio amplifiers and a bed full of woofers) by 10 laps.

Class C Winner: Flaming A-Holes
Most V12 Jaguars (and V12 BMWs) get put in C Class by the LeMons Supreme Court (for obvious reasons), and this time an XJ12 managed to refrain from blowing head gaskets, spinning rod bearings, stretching head studs, or melting down its entire wiring harness for an entire race. The Flaming A-Holes held off a lot of tough Class C rivals all weekend, finishing in P29 and beating its closest rival (an ’84 Nissan Maxima) by four laps.

Most Heroic Fix Winner: Absolute Lemon Motorsports
The BMW E30 3-Series is the most common LeMons car, and that means that we’re very, very familiar with this car’s Achilles heel: a very fragile engine computer. The ECMs in E30s tend to become unhappy when subjected to the extreme conditions of endurance racing, and just about every E30 team keeps a spare ECM on hand. The veteran racers of Absolute Lemon Motorsports, however, cooked their car’s ECM early in the race, then fried their only replacement. Rather than try to chase down the elusive electrical-system gremlin that was killing their ECMs, they went …read more

First Drive: 2014 Chevrolet Impala [w/video]

Can A Fleet Queen Become a Fullsize King?

On paper, the Chevrolet Impala is a pretty strong seller, posting annual sales that have hovered right around 170,000 units for the last two years, but it only takes one trip to practically any rental car agency to discover where the majority of those sales have come from. In fact, General Motors told Autoblog that a full 70 percent of Impala sales last year went to fleet companies for things like rental cars and government vehicles. Logic tells us that this is neither good for resale values nor name equity, so Chevrolet is getting ready to roll out an all-new Impala with improved comfort, styling and technology, hoping to turn the tables on its retail-to-fleet ratio.

Chevrolet’s sedans have come on quite strong in the last few months with the introduction of the Cruze diesel and the SS sedan, but while these will likely be low-volume sellers, there’s more pressure for the new Impala to perform well as GM looks to slash fleet sales and compete with the wide variety of full-size sub-luxury sedans. Riding on a platform shared with the Buick LaCrosse and Cadillac XTS, the 2014 Impala will compete against the Hyundai Azera, Ford Taurus and Toyota Avalon on the more traditional side, while also looking to take a bite out of somewhat sportier models like the Chrysler 300/Dodge Charger twins and the Nissan Maxima. We headed to sunny San Diego to see if this totally new Impala can stand on its own without the assistance of fleet companies and rental agencies. [w/video

3 dead, 1 wounded at house in Salt Lake suburb

Three people were shot to death and one was critically wounded Tuesday at a known drug house in suburban Salt Lake City, causing temporary lockdowns at several area schools as police looked for two men who may have been involved.

Investigators said a person inside the house reported the shooting in Midvale at about 8 a.m. Unified Police Department Lt. Justin Hoyal said a search warrant had been served at the house in recent weeks for drug activity. “It was a known narcotics house,” he said.

The house backs up to a sound barrier for Interstate 15 about 12 miles south of Salt Lake City.

Several elementary schools were locked down to keep children safe as police began a search for David Fresques, 25, a “person of interest” who was last seen driving a white Nissan Maxima in the neighborhood.

Hoyal said a second person yet to be identified may also have information about the shooting. The school lockdowns were later lifted.

“We do not have a suspect in custody,” Hoyal said.

The bodies of three people remained inside the house as police sought a search warrant to gather evidence. It wasn’t certain when they would be removed.

The fourth shooting victim, a woman, was taken to a hospital in critical condition, Hoyal said.
