San Francisco Giants Lead All MLB Teams In Fan Engagement

Home game attendance is the most traditional way to analyze how engaged a professional baseball team’s fan base may be.  However, in a proper analysis of fan base engagement, the turnstyle ticker should only be one element in a more holistic approach to determine fan activity and interest.  When median ticket price, ticket demand and social media following are factored into the equation, the baseball franchise with the most engaged fan base is the San Francisco Giants.  The least engaged team is the Miami Marlins.

Bryce Harper Opening Day Home Runs: Nationals Star Opens 2013 With 2 Longballs (VIDEO)

WASHINGTON — Washington Nationals left fielder Bryce Harper is the youngest major leaguer to homer twice in his team’s opening game of a season, delivering solo shots in his first two at-bats Monday.

The reigning NL Rookie of the Year, who is 20, drove a pitch from Miami Marlins right-hander Ricky Nolasco over the out-of-town scoreboard in right-center in the first inning. Harper’s second homer sailed a little to the right of that in the fourth inning.

Word that Miami Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria rejected an offer by Jeb Bush to purchase the ballclub received little attention when it made the news a few weeks ago. Maybe it was because there didn’t seem to be much more to tell. After all, Loria insists that he is not willing to sell the franchise—to anyone, anytime—and Bush, the former Florida governor, hasn’t made public comments about the supposed offer. But the possibility of Bush leading a group that could purchase the Marlins has implications worth exploring, both in terms of the future of the franchise and the future of the Oval Office. …read more
