By ScottCWaring

At MUFON’s 2013 annual symposium they handed the press a press release outlining the top 10 UFO cases of 2012 as determined by their newly formed science review board. MUFON’s science review board is headed by their director of research Robert Powell. It consists of scientists with degrees in physics, chemistry, geology and electrical engineering. The board’s work experience includes working with NASA and the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, and many leading high-tech companies, such as Lockheed Martin and Northrup Grumman.

Of the 10 cases, one of them is an intriguing UFO video case that took place in Ball Ground, Georgia, a town about 50 miles north of Atlanta. The witness says “We saw a black, bird like shaped object that made no noise along with blinking lights in the sky.”

2013 Nissan Leaf - maroon - front three-quarter view

Filed under:

The electric vehicle has gone gold at RenaultNissan, clocking 100,000 sales in a three-year period that began with the first Nissan Leaf being sold in Silicon Valley, California in 2010. Since then, the Leaf has become the EV champion of the world, selling more than 71,000 units so far, the majority of those in the US. The 100,000th EV sold by the Alliance was also a Leaf and also sold in the US, but on the other side of the country, in Georgia.

By comparison, Renault has sold 30,000 electric vehicles since late 2011, looking after other segments of the EV market with the Kangoo Z.E., Zoe, Twizy and Fluence Z.E. The alliance estimates that its efforts have been driven 5.2 million ion-powered miles and saved 14 million gallons of oil since they appeared. For a bit of sobering context, the US averaged 18.83 million barrels of oil per day in 2011, which is almost 791 million gallons. Per day.

So we’re getting there, albeit slowly. Quietly. There’s a press release and a video below with more details on the achievement.

Accused leader of Ga. militia gets life sentence

A Georgia soldier accused of running an anti-government militia has been sentenced to life in prison without parole for a double slaying.

Pvt. Isaac Aguigui (AH-gee-gee) of Cashmere, Wash., pleaded guilty as part of a deal that spared him the death penalty on two counts of malice murder. He also pleaded guilty to four counts of violating Georgia’s anti-gang law.

Prosecutors said Aguigui and three fellow Fort Stewart soldiers were part of a militia group called Forever Enduring Always Ready. The defendants were accused of fatally shooting a former member of their Army unit and the man’s 17-year-old girlfriend.

Investigators say Aguigui ordered the deaths of Michael Roark and Tiffany York in 2011 to keep them from exposing the group’s plans.

Aguigui’s attorney, Newell Hamilton Jr., declined to comment.

Ga. inmate's execution stayed, state plans appeal

A judge has granted Georgia inmate Warren Lee Hill a stay of execution, but lawyers for the state plan to immediately appeal to the state’s Supreme Court.

Hill had been scheduled to die by lethal injection Friday for the 1990 killing of a fellow inmate. But Superior Court Judge Gail Tusan issued an injunction Thursday blocking that, which could be overturned on appeal.

Hill’s attorneys are challenging the constitutionality of a law barring the release of information about where Georgia obtains its execution drug. State attorneys contend the law is constitutional and necessary to discourage retaliation against those who take part in executions.

Tusan granted the injunction to allow further arguments.

Hill’s attorneys also have appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court, saying he shouldn’t be executed because he’s mentally disabled.

Unemployment rates rise in 28 US states

Unemployment rates rose in 28 U.S. states last month, partly because more Americans started looking for work and not all of them found jobs.

The Labor Department says unemployment rates fell in 11 states and were unchanged in another 11.

Nationally, the unemployment rate remained 7.6 percent in June, even though employers added 195,000 jobs.

The rate stayed the same because more people began job searches but not all of them found work. The government doesn’t count people as unemployed unless they are actively searching for work.

A similar dynamic occurred at the state level. Two-thirds of the states added jobs in June. Massachusetts, Maryland and Georgia were among the states where the unemployment rate rose even though they added jobs.

Republicans Could See Divisive Senate Primaries In 2014

By The Huffington Post News Editors

* Cheney’s run renews concerns about party divisions
* In bid to take back Senate, party can afford few missteps
* Tension between party’s establishment, Tea Party movement
By John Whitesides
WASHINGTON, July 18 (Reuters) – Liz Cheney’s decision to challenge Wyoming U.S. Senator Mike Enzi in a Republican primary next year sets up the type of divisive, intraparty fight that Republican leaders vowed to avoid after the 2012 elections.
The move this week by Cheney, daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney, is unlikely to open the door for a Democrat to win the Senate seat in Wyoming, which is heavily Republican.
But it is rekindling Republicans’ concerns that party feuds could lead to a reprise of the 2010 and 2012 elections, when bitter Republican primary fights in several states produced weakened, gaffe-prone nominees who went on to lose winnable races to Democrats – and thwart Republicans’ hopes of winning a majority in the Senate.
In next year’s elections, Republicans will need a net gain of six seats to take control of the 100-member Senate. Most analysts expect the party to gain some seats – possibly enough to reclaim a majority – but say it cannot afford the types of missteps it has made in the past two elections.
The fields of candidates are still shaping up, but already there are signs of brewing Senate primary fights among Republicans in several states, including Iowa, Georgia and Alaska.
“The Republican path to success in the Senate is pretty narrow. If they lose one or two seats because of a difficult primary, that’s a huge problem – and it’s possible,” said Jennifer Duffy, a Senate analyst for the nonpartisan Cook Political Report.
“They can’t afford a lot of unforced errors,” she added.
Many Republicans still have painful memories of the last two elections, when contentious primaries produced Senate nominees such as Todd …read more

GA execution halted amid lethal injection concerns

A judge has temporarily stayed a Georgia inmate’s scheduled execution Monday, after attorneys raised questions involving the state’s supply of execution drugs.

A lawyer for Warren Lee Hill said the judge planned a hearing Thursday.

It wasn’t the first time Hill’s scheduled execution has been halted by a challenge to Georgia’s execution method. Last July, a previous execution date was put on hold by an earlier challenge to the state’s plan to change from a three-drug injection to a single dose of pentobarbital.

The state Supreme Court later authorized the execution to proceed, though it was halted again so courts could consider claims Hill is mentally disabled. That stay was lifted in April and the execution rescheduled for Monday.

Hill was condemned for the killing of another inmate in 1990.
