How to ignore white spaces while comparing two files.?

By sharsour

Hello Experts,

I am trying to compare two files line by line with below code. I want to ignore the spaces while comparing. Only content should be compared.

Code:

hostFile="/etc/hosts"
inputFile="/home/scripts/DR/hosts.eas"
grep -E '^[0-9]{1,3}.[0-9]{1,3}.[0-9]{1,3}.[0-9]{1,3}' $inputFile > temp1
result=$(grep -vxFf $hostFile temp1)

It is looking for the lines starting with Ip address in the host file like 127.0.0.1

If i give any space in between Ip address and host name it is saying entry is not matching.

Below is the sample entry

Code:

10.3.242.177 mugwump mugwump.test.server

Official: US web site paid to find DR prostitutes

A Dominican prosecutor says a local attorney told him that someone claiming to be with the conservative website The Daily Caller paid him to find prostitutes who would lie about having sex with U.S. Sen. Robert Menendez.

Jose Polanco told The Associated Press on Friday that attorney Melanio Figueroa said he was promised $5,000 by someone named “Carlos” to find prostitutes. Polanco said Figueroa told him in an interrogation late Thursday that he was paid only $2,000 after finding the prostitutes.

Daily Caller Editor Tucker Carlson Figueroa‘s statements, calling them “a lie.”

Polanco said authorities are reviewing footage from surveillance cameras in areas where the man identified as Carlos supposedly met with Figueroa.

The announcement comes just days after police said the prostitutes lied about having sex with Menendez.

Residential Demand Response Participation Rate Will Reach Sixteen Percent Worldwide by 2018, Forecasts Pike Research

BOULDER, Colo.–(BUSINESS WIRE)– Demand response (DR) is becoming an important part of the resource mix for utilities and grid operators, especially in managing peak electricity demand. Utilities face significant challenges, however, in rolling out DR programs to large numbers of their residential customers. According to a recent report from Pike Research, a part of Navigant’s Energy Practice, the worldwide participation level of residential demand response programs will reach only 16.4 percent by 2018, among households with access to such programs.

“Utilities around the world are gradually realizing the potential benefits of introducing demand response programs to their residential customers,” says senior research analyst Marianne Hedin. “While the total number of households participating in demand response programs will be more than 23 million in 2018, that still represents a relatively small fraction of the total addressable market.”

Among the forces constraining more rapid growth in the residential DR market are consumer backlash to smart meters, the cost of delivering demand response to residential customers, and an overall lack of consumer engagement with and interest in this option. Pricing programs that rely on dynamic pricing, which offer consumers a clear financial incentive for adoption of DR, will be the fastest growing segment of the residential DR market.

The report, “Residential Demand Response”, examines the developing global market for residential demand response programs, including technology issues, market drivers and barriers, and regulatory factors. The report includes detailed comparisons of price-based and direct load control DR programs as well as profiles of 17 key market players. Market forecasts for residential DR participation, spending, and load curtailment (in megawatts), segmented by region, are provided through 2018. An Executive Summary of the report is available for free download on the Pike Research website.

Peak Load Reduction from Industrial Demand Response Programs Will Grow by Nearly 15 Percent Per Year

Peak Load Reduction from Industrial Demand Response Programs Will Grow by Nearly 15 Percent Per Year Through 2019, Forecasts Pike Research

BOULDER, Colo.–(BUSINESS WIRE)– The industrial sector offers unique opportunities for demand response (DR), because it is able to contribute unusually large amounts of load reduction – even from just one plant. As DR is increasingly adopted in many countries around the world, industrial facilities will become a critical customer segment. According to a new report from Pike Research, a part of Navigant’s Energy Practice, industrial DR, as measured by peak load reductions, will grow steadily over the remainder of the decade, expanding by 14.7 percent per year from 2012 to 2019.

“Thanks to its long history of DR and early adoption of automated DR, the United States has led the way with respect to the use of industrial DR,” says senior research analyst Marianne Hedin. “Today, though, other countries, including Canada, the United Kingdom, France, South Africa, Israel, China, Japan, South Korea, Australia, and New Zealand, are either increasing the pace of adoption or conducting pilots to explore the feasibility and value of industrial DR programs.”

The set of industries that are involved in DR programs includes many discrete and process manufacturers, such as producers of cement, chemicals, steel, paper and pulp, food and beverages, information technology, construction and building materials, and many more. In addition, oil refineries and agricultural plants potentially have a big role to play in industrial DR, according to the report. Because irrigation systems, for example, require significant consumption of electricity, an agricultural facility can reduce a great deal of load.

The report, “Demand Response for Industrial Markets”, examines the global market for industrial demand response, detailing the breakdown of peak load curtailment into two major customer segments: small/medium and large/very large industrial customers. The report provides data on how much these different industrial DR participants receive in payments by utilities, grid operators, or aggregators when they reduce their load at peak times. The market forces and competitive landscape are explored in depth, and 21 industrial DR vendors are profiled. The report also provides forecasts for industrial peak load curtailment, in terms of capacity, and reduction payments, broken down by region and by market segment. An Executive Summary of the report is available for free download on the Pike Research website.
