AMD today announced the availability of its AMD Elite A-Series Accelerated Processing Units (APUs), formerly codenamed Richland. These processors, designed for use in notebook PCs, combine either two or four x86 CPU cores with a graphics engine derived from AMD’s Radeon HD 8000 series of discrete GPUs on the same chip.
In a briefing earlier this month, AMD indicated that it had been shipping Elite A-Series APUs since December, and that the components should begin appearing in traditional and performance notebooks later this month. AMD expects to release a low-voltage iteration of Richland APUs for use in ultrathin notebooks later in the first half of 2013.
AMD claims its Elite A-Series APUs deliver both higher performance—better graphics performance than an Intel Core i7—and improved battery life compared to its previous-generation APUs. The performance gains, AMD says, will enable an array of new user experiences, such as facial recognition to replace alpha-numeric passwords for security, and gesture control as an easier means of interacting with the PC than using a touchscreen.
AMD is bundling several applications with the APUs, so that OEMs can provide the software to end users who buy computers. AMD Gesture Control, for example, taps the APU’s graphics cores to recognize hand gestures. Users will be able to operate basic functions on media players, web browsers, e-readers and other applications by moving their hands in front of a web cam from up to three feet away.

Guys I was watching the Popocatepeti cam and took the photos it takes and put them together to form a short movie. This UFO was probably only visible because of the infrared camera the cam uses. The UFO was moving slowly into the mouth of the volcano. This volcano has been a hotspot for UFO sightings this year and today is no exception. SCW

Alexi Volkov, a Russian bus driver known as “The Punisher,” doesn’t tolerate anyone who cuts him off while he’s on the job. Rather than attempting to take evasive maneuvers, Volkov simply lets his bus roll into the offending party’s vehicle. He boasts that he’s been involved in over 100 accidents and posts dash-cam videos of the collisions to YouTube. Somewhat miraculously, his employer doesn’t seem concerned with his driving record, and Volkov says so long as the accidents aren’t his fault and the damage minor, no one gets upset.
What about the passengers on the bus? The driver says no one has ever been injured in the bumps, so they have nothing to complain about. Meanwhile, Volkov says conditions are gradually improving thanks to his “educational work.” Check out his highlight reel in the video below, and then let us know how you feel about Volkov’s tactics in the Comments – Is he a menace or does he deserve a medal?
Oh, and one more thing: Please remember to be courteous to your fellow drivers.

Date of sighting: March 9, 2013 at 9:30 am (Taiwan Time)
Location of sighting: Earths Orbit at ISS
Best view of ring UFO at 1:26 sec into video.
Sorry I sound groggy on the video, I just woke up 5 min earlier. I sat down at my computer this morning and turned on the ISS live cam for fun…a minute later I sat this ring UFO appear. It looks a lot like the ring UFOs that were in the NASA footage of the 1996 tether mission. The sound of a camera in the first 30 seconds is my computer taking a screenshot of the UFO so I can use it for my blog. This is the first time I ever caught a ring UFO near the ISS. Usually its only white/grey orbs that I see. SCW
A police chief hired to rebuild a tiny Tennessee department dismantled by scandal is using a lie-detector test to keep racists off his force.
Coopertown Police Chief Shane Sullivan took over the department in November, becoming the 11th chief in as many years. He was hired on the heels of a series of police scandals that for a few months left Coopertown with no police at all. Years before that, a mayor was voted out of office after the local prosecutor accused him of racism and running a notorious speed trap.
Law enforcement experts say Sullivan’s polygraph approach is unusual, though some departments use the devices for other purposes during the application process. Others try to root out bias in other ways. One polygraph expert warned that lie detectors can’t accurately predict racism for reasons that include people’s inability to recognize their own racism.
Sullivan said he doubts racists will even apply for the force if they know about the tests.
“I think the polygraph will definitely keep these people from applying,” the 39-year-old chief said.
And he believes the policy is working, because he says it’s already discouraged some applicants.
“I’ve told a couple of ones about the polygraph who have not called me back.”
Before Sullivan’s hiring, the sheriff’s department had overseen law enforcement in the town 30 miles northwest of Nashville while the department was temporarily disbanded.
First, the only full-time patrolman was fired over a road rage incident. Then the reserve officer was dismissed after a dashboard camera captured him using a racial slur to describe a black motorist. The dash cam video was later aired in the media. Soon after that, the police chief quit.
Coopertown Mayor Sam Childs said the chief resigned because of the “predatory media.”
The rural community of about 4,000 people that is 95 percent white earned a reputation as a notorious speed trap, with about a third of its revenue coming from speeding tickets handed out by city police during the former mayor’s tenure. In 2006, the National Motorists Association said Coopertown had one of the most “blatant examples of speed traps in the country.” It stopped after a prosecutor filed a petition against the mayor in 2006. Its 25 squares miles encompass significant stretches of Interstate 24 and another highway that drivers use to cut through to Interstate 65.
In 2006, the county prosecutor asked a court to oust then-Mayor Danny Crosby on allegations he was running a speed trap and ordering police to target Hispanics, out-of-towners and soldiers from nearby Fort Campbell, Ky., for traffic tickets.
Although an appellate court agreed with a lower court’s finding that Crosby’s conduct and statements were strongly suggestive of “bigotry, sexism or utter foolishness,” it refused to remove him. Crosby was later voted out of office and the speed trap is gone.
One lifelong resident said he’s fed up with the city government and the police department making the town look bad.
“It’s put a black eye on the city,” Wayne Brown said of Coopertown’s controversies. Brown, a mechanic and football coach, said he thinks there …read more

Leave it to a Subaru WRX to find a new way to improve the art of passing. This dash cam vid shows a white WRX pirouetting past our recording car and somehow straightening out before either sliding off the road or slamming into the car ahead. If this were a standard move in rally racing, the WRC would be bigger than NASCAR.
Like most dash cam vids, we don’t know where it was shot (Russia‘s always a good bet) or what the circumstances were (did the driver spin on purpose or was the 360-degree slide accidental?), but the remarkable feat was caught on camera and uploaded to YouTube, preserving it for an Internet eternity. Scroll below to watch the twist yourself, and don’t try this at home!

Date of sighting: March 3, 2013
Location of sighting: Volcano Popocatepeti, Mexico (Near Mexico City)
I was looking over todays archive of the live cam watching Volcano Popocatepeti when I happened to catch sight of this disk-like craft with a contrail behind it. It came from the lower part of the volcano which is purely forest. The object must have shot off very quickly because after that it disappeared. If you check the archive link below you will see it for yourself. This particular volcano is world famous for its UFO sightings. It is the location that many of us…me in particular believe is the entrance to an underground alien base. Oh, I made the video myself so if you can it sure would help if you could press the like button so it will be seen by others on Youtube. Thanks, SCW.

These days, it seems like the internet runs on the fuel of Russian dash cam videos. From clips showing meteors falling from the sky to plane crashes and close calls, it almost seems as if every driver on Russian roads is filming at all times. As it turns out, that’s nearly true. According to Wired, several factors have culminated in the current explosion of dashcam videos. Those include everything from shady traffic cops to insurance scammers to the design of the legal system itself. Combine those issues with Russia‘s notoriously dangerous roads, and drivers have become keen to protect themselves with cameras.
Wired has taken a closer look at the dash cam phenomenon and its rapid expansion. You can read the full article here. We highly recommend taking the time. You can also watch a classic dash cam clip below.

Chicken Little would have lost his cookies, yet the Russian driver in this video appears to have kept his wits about him despite the unannounced arrival of a massive fireball falling from the early morning sky – a spectacular event caught by an automotive dash cam – that injured nearly 1,000 people in Siberia.
While scientists estimate that tens of thousands of meteoroids fall from the sky each year, most are just tiny particles that burn up unseen. Only about five thousand are large enough to be really visible (at this point called a “fireball”) and then break up and explode to earn the name “bolide.” The bolide in the video left an impressive smoke trail of particulate during its ablation, but it also sent nearly a thousand Russians to the hospital for injuries suffered when its sonic blast blew out windows.
In case you are wondering, meteoroids enter the atmosphere at speeds between 25,000 and 160,000 mph. However, like a bullet hitting water, the earth’s thick air quickly slows then (the friction causes the familiar fiery glow) to a more palatable 200 to 400 mph before they impact the surface. The good news, especially for those who are worried about such events, is that most burn up and never make it all the way down. Check out the video below.
