Kim Jong-Un grants rare North Korean citizenship to American

The U.S. head of a joint venture by North Korea and the Unification Church of South Korea has reportedly been granted rare honorary citizenship by Pyongyang in an effort to encourage new investment.

Agence France Presse reports that Park Sang-Kwon, CEO of Pyeonghwa Motors, told South Korea‘s Yonhap news agency that he received the citizenship in Pyongyang last month.

“This means that North Korea has acknowledged the trust they had put in me,” Park said. “They were also encouraging me to start new projects in the North, more freely and aggressively.”

Park is just the second person to be awarded honorary citizenship and the first since Kim Jong-Un took over as North Korea‘s leader in December 2011, according to Yonhap. The other is Kim Chin-Kyung, an American citizen who is president of Pyongyang University of Science and Technology.

“This is to certify that comrade Park Sang-Kwon, who has made outstanding contributions to the nation’s prosperity, is an honorary citizen of Pyongyang,” read an identification card held by Park.

French magazine publishes comic book of Prophet Mohammed

A satirical magazine in France once firebombed for its portrayal of radical Muslims has published a 65-page cartoon biography of the Prophet Mohammed.

Charlie Hebdo, whose offices were attacked last November just hours before its “Charia Hebdo” edition hit the stands, says its latest publication is “halal” and describes it as an attempt to teach non-Muslims about the prophet’s life, the Financial Times reports.

“We have put into pictures the life of Mohammed as it is recounted by Muslim chroniclers. Without added humor,” editor Stephane Charbonnier writes on the magazine’s back page. “If the form seems to some blasphemous, the foundation is perfectly halal. Up to you to decide.”

“The Life of Mohammed” cover depicts a yellow cartoon character leading a camel through a desert. The book also reportedly includes drawings of naked men wearing turbans and depictions of naked women.

AFP reports the book also shows a young Mohammed taking off his clothes to join other naked children.

“Before having a laugh about a character, it’s better to know him. As much as we know about the life of Jesus, we know nothing about Mohammed,” Charbonnier told AFP.

The magazine quickly drew criticism across social media.

“Turning the prophet of Islam into a cartoon character is itself wrong,” a senior political adviser to Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip said in a Twitter message. “No matter what Charlie Hebdo people say, this is a provocation. My advice to Muslims: ignore it. Don’t give them what they want.”

Charbonnier reportedly lives under police protection and has received numerous death threats.

Blood of Louis XVI 'found in gourd container'

By Jonathan_So

A team of scientists have said they believe an old gourd contains the blood of French King Louis XVI.

The monarch was killed by guillotine by French revolutionaries more than 200 years ago, on 21 January 1793.

The scientists said the DNA is very similar to genetic material from what is believed to be the mummified head of an earlier French king, AFP reports…

The team of experts from Spain and France has published its findings in Forensic Science International journal.

Analysis of DNA taken from blood traces found inside the vegetable container had already revealed that it probably matched someone of Louis’ description but scientists could not prove it belonged to the beheaded king as they had no genetic material from any of his relatives…

Iran paying Russian women who work at nuclear plant to cover up their bodies

An Iranian lawmaker is criticizing Russian women who work as technicians at one of the country’s nuclear plants for not following Islamic dress code.

Mehdi Mousavinejad told the state news agency ISNA, according to AFP, that Iran is paying the women to cover up their hair and most of their bodies.

“Unfortunately, they do not properly observe what is (asked of them), which is mentioned in the contracts,” he said.

In Iran, those who don’t follow hijab, which is the dress code, could face arrest or other punishments, AFP reports.

The women work at the Bushehr nuclear plant in southern Iran.
