Andrew Garfield made headlines last week by mentioning in an interview that he A) wanted the chance to play Peter Parker as bisexual in the ongoing Amazing Spider-Man franchise and B) wanted “MJ” to be a guy, played by someone along the lines of Michael B. Jordan (currently starring in Fruitvale Station and in the running to play Johnny Storm in the next Fantastic Four reboot). There is irony with Garfield attempting to take the character in a more socially progressive arena if you remember the whole Donald Glover situation (African-American Glover famously argued that he should at least be allowed to audition for the nominally white role of Peter Parker).
