Egypt: Islamists rally in Cairo against opposition

Several thousand mostly hard-line Islamists protested in Cairo on Friday against a recent wave of violent anti-government protests, while liberal activists staged a smaller demonstration across town to call for accountability and justice from the country’s leaders.

The parallel rallies mirror the deep divisions that have plagued Egypt in the two years since longtime autocrat Hosni Mubark‘s ouster, leaving the country’s politics polarized and its economy battered by the continuous turmoil in the streets.

The current cycle of unrest erupted three weeks ago around the second anniversary of the uprising that toppled Mubarak. The opposition-led protests against Islamist President Mohammed Morsi, who was elected in June, accusing him and his Muslim Brotherhood group of trying to monopolize power.

The opposition also wants Morsi to amend a contentious constitution that was passed in a nationwide vote late last year after the president’s Islamist allies rushed to finalize and approve the document in a drafting committee. The president and his backers counter that the opposition’s relentless protests calling for reform have hurt the country’s ailing economy and made actually implementing changes impossible.

On Friday, some 5,000 Morsi’s supporters gathered in front of Cairo University for a rally, dubbed “No to violence.” The protest is largely seen as a denunciation of the anti-government demonstrations in recent weeks that have frequently turned violent, leaving more than 70 people dead.

“I would like to tell the people who are attacking the police by throwing firebombs at them that this is unacceptable,” said protester Mahmoud Mamdouh. “These are our people and these buildings that are getting destroyed are our property.”

Some of the demonstrators Friday held banners that read: “People want an iron fist” and “Yes to Islamic law.” Others chanted “People want the law of God to be implemented.”

The rally was organized by Gamaa Islamiya, an ex-jihadist group whose members were imprisoned for decades under the former regime. The group’s political party only won a small number of seats in last year’s parliamentary elections, but has a widespread network of supporters across Egypt.

The demonstration was not expected to reach massive numbers because Egypt‘s most powerful Islamist parties are not officially participating. Morsi’s Muslim Brotherhood backers said they will only have a symbolic presence at the protest while the more conservative Salafi parties weren’t taking part, although some leaders were present.

Many of the protesters held the Koran and waved pictures of Morsi and Omar Abdel-Rahman, the 73-year-old blind sheik who was the spiritual leader of the Gamaa, as well as one of the men convicted in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing. He has been serving a life sentence in the United States since 1995.

Across town, a smaller crowd of liberal activists rallied outside the Qasr al-Kobba palace, one of the president’s secondary palaces. It is considered symbolic like the main palace where clashes between police and protesters have been taking place for weeks.

Friday’s protest, which does not officially include the main opposition coalition, was led mostly by youth who waved pictures of protesters killed in past demonstrations. Much of the anger …read more

At This Point, What Difference Does It Make? The Blind Sheik Lives!

By Avg Joe

Muslim Brotherhood 2 SC At This Point, What Difference Does It Make? The Blind Sheik Lives!

The Muslim Brotherhood wants the “Blind Sheik” released from federal prison and returned to the people of Egypt. There are reports and speculation that the White House entertained the possibility of releasing him, figured that it would not be politically possible, and dreamed up a plan to trade him for a hostage or hostages, resulting in the four American deaths in Libya.

The only defense that the Obama administration has is that all the branches of government failed with such incompetence and are so bureaucratic that not one single agency, group of people, or person is at fault.

In Mali, more Americans are dead; and whether the administration is involved or asleep has yet to be determined. What we do know is that the initial demands were for the release of the Blind Sheik as well as other terrorists.

The Muslim Brotherhood considers the Blind Sheik a hero at the highest level for preaching hate, successfully bombing the World Trade Center, and murdering Americans. The Muslim Brotherhood holds this radical Islamic terrorist and religious zealot in such high regard that they will do almost anything to get him back. Do they need him back to help rally more radicals to their cause, fighting against the Great Satan and driving Jews into the sea?

What we do know is that until Omar Abdel Rahman draws his last breath, Americans will continue to die. Secretary of State Clinton may have well have said “At this point, what difference does it make? The Blind Sheik still breathes and is confined to a cell in a US prison”. Likely true conspiracy theories aside, a more appropriate response would have been: “Our policies have created an unstable region filled with people that hate us and will take every opportunity to kill us. At this point, what difference does it make …that we lied about it leading up to the election?” I think the latter is a given fact. Unfortunately, nobody cares; and I think that was her point. The people in the room can’t prove it, the election is won, and it doesn’t serve the progressives’ radical Muslim appeasement agenda.

What Difference, At This Point, Does It Make?

By Jim Emerson

Obama Appeaser Enemies SC What difference, at this point, does it make?

“What difference,at this point, does it make?”

In the throes of her faux outrage, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton made this phrase famous. She uttered it while being questioned about the lies this administration told after four Americans were killed in Benghazi. She acted like a child who was caught in a lie trying to find a way out of any consequences. Whether she realizes it or not, this will register with the low information voter and thus will become her legacy. If you don’t think of this being her legacy, what is the first thing you think when someone mentions her husband Bill?

Why does it matter?

During the months leading up to the murders at Benghazi, Chris Stevens and the Ambassador in Libya were begging for the increased security that was denied by all levels of the State Department; and no one was held responsible. The White House pressured Twitter to pull the Libyan embassy tweets during the murder spree and forced CNN to surrender the Ambassador’s diary they found at Benghazi murder scene. Hillary’s minions hid the survivors of Benghazi from the public and Congress. They denied the existence of any real-time audio and video feed from the compound.  This White House ordered military commanders to stand down from launching a rescue mission.  The administration blamed a video when the world knew that it had nothing to do with the pre-planned attack. Now she is lying to Congress when she said she always said that it was a terrorist attack. But why should that matter?

Why does it matter?

With no fear of retribution from America, al Qaeda forces raided a natural gas plant in Algeria to capture Westerners and most likely was planning to take them to Libya before the Algerian security forces could react to their presence.  The Algerians did manage to contain and kill the terrorist, but not before the hostages were killed. Why does it matter? Terrorist organizations affiliated with Al Qaeda will continue to target Americans whereever they are. They want something, and this White House knows what it is.

What do they have in common?

The Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt made it clear to Barack Obama that they wanted the release of the Blind Sheikh, Omar Abdel-Rahman. Most likely, the attack on Benghazi was part of al Qaeda’s efforts to kidnap Americans as an exchange for the Blind Sheikh. The Algerian kidnapping attempt was most likely a secondary consideration to punishing the French for their involvement in Mali. The Congressional Democrats’ and their lap dog media’s response is “What difference at this point does it make?” We can’t make the President look bad, even when he ignores the obvious.

Video: Did Obama Stage The Algerian Kidnapping To Trade The Blind Sheik?

By Kris Zane

Hillary Clinton was on the Hill this morning, four months after the Benghazi consulate attack; Congress is still trying to find out what happened on September 11, 2011.

Obama vowed to get to the bottom of it; but instead, we got “Pin the tail on the anti-Muslim YouTube video” and a “Benghazi Accountability Report” authored by Islamic apologist Thomas R. Pickering that didn’t actually find anyone accountable.

Congressman Jason Chaffetz, after months of having state department official after state department official testify, asked the innocent question “Where are the survivors?” “I don’t know who they are. I don’t know where they live. I don’t know what state they’re from. I don’t even know how many there are. It doesn’t seem right to me.”

The whole business stinks of a cover-up. And cover-ups give rise to conspiracy theories.

Enter the “conspiracy theory” that the attack on the Benghazi consulate was an Obama-orchestrated “October Surprise” to kidnap ambassador Chris Stevens and trade him to the Muslim Brotherhood for the Blind Sheikh and prop up his dismal 43% approval rating by acting the hero.

Except a retired four-star Admiral says this is exactly what happened:

The Washington Examiner, quoting retired Four-Star Admiral James Lyons, writes: “the attack on the American Consulate in Benghazi…was the result of a bungled abduction attempt…the first stage of an international prisoner exchange…that would have ensured the release of Omar Abdel Rahman, the ‘Blind Sheik’…

Enter the Algerian hostage crisis. Again, the Blind Sheikh enters the picture. Again, the kidnapping operation hits a snag. Again, the militants seem to have inside knowledge of the facility. The militants, headed by the al-Qaeda-linked “holy warrior” Mokhtar Belmokhtar, demand the release of the Blind Sheikh in exchange for the Americans being held. And again, there is a massacre.

Except this time, instead of four Americans dying, everyone dies (hostages and militants, eighty-one at last count), mowed down by a fleet of Algerian military helicopters.

And lo and behold, among the dead bodies, among the militants reportedly heading the mission are several blond-haired, blue-eyed westerners.

America, Obama is in bed with the Muslim Brotherhood. Obama is in bed with terrorists. Obama is in bed with the enemy.

When exactly America will wake up to this fact, however, remains to be seen.

Clinton calls hostage siege 'act of terror,' after American dies in Algerian raid

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton called for an improved counterterrorism relationship with Algeria and ‘all countries in the region’ after an American from Texas was identified as one of the hostages who died at a natural-gas site during a raid by the Algerian military.

The American was identified as Frederick Buttaccio. He reportedly suffered a heart attack. The general manager of the complex, Mark Cobb, also from Texas, was able to escape with members of his Algerian staff and is safe.

The desert siege began Wednesday when the militants attempted to hijack two buses at the plant, were repelled, and then seized the gas refinery. They said the attack was retaliation for France‘s recent military intervention against Islamist rebels in neighboring Mali, but security experts argue it must have taken weeks of planning to hit the remote site.

Since then, Algeria‘s government has kept a tight grip on information about the siege. Algerian officials have asked Western governments to stand on the sidelines during the military operations, and some U.S. officials were reportedly concerned about the previous raid.

Clinton, for her part. talked to reporters after the Obama administration confirmed that Americans were still being held hostage, even as some U.S. citizens were being flown out of the country for recovery in Europe. The Algerian state news agency reported that 12 hostages had been killed since Wednesday’s start of an Algerian rescue operation, and world leaders steadily increased their criticism of the North African country’s handling of the attack.

Clinton, however, defended Algeria‘s action. “Let’s not forget: This is an act of terror,” she told reporters in Washington.

“The perpetrators are the terrorists. They are the ones who have assaulted this facility, have taken hostage Algerians and others from around the world as they were going about their daily businessl,” she said.

Earlier Friday, Algeria‘s state news service reported that nearly 100 of the 132 foreign workers kidnapped by Islamic militants were free. That number of hostages at the remote desert facility was significantly higher than any previous report, but questions remained about the fate of more than 30 other foreign energy workers Saturday.

BP evacuated one American, along with other foreign workers, to Mallorca, Spain, and then to London. And an American official said a U.S. military C-130 flew a group of people, including some lightly wounded or injured, from Algiers to a U.S. facility in Europe on Friday. The official wasn’t authorized to speak publicly on the matter and requested anonymity.

In London, Defense Secretary Leon Panetta met with British Prime Minister David Cameron at No. 10 Downing St. to assess their governments’ understandings of the situation. At King’s College, Panetta said the U.S. is “working around the clock to ensure the safe return of our citizens” and that terrorists should be on notice they will find no sanctuary in Algeria or North Africa.

The White House said President Obama was being briefed Friday by his national security team. His top aides were in touch with Algerian officials as well as BP‘s security office in London. BP jointly operates the natural gas plant.

U.S. officials have refused to confirm the number of Americans still captive or unaccounted for because they say that might compromise their safety. Local news reports indicate that there are still six hostages. Their nationalities are unknown.

Still, the U.S. flatly rejected an offer by the militants — led by a Mali-based Al Qaeda offshoot known as the Masked Brigade — to free two American hostages in exchange for the release of Omar Abdel Rahman, a blind sheikh convicted of plotting to blow up New York City landmarks and considered the spiritual leader of the 1993 World Trade Center bombing, and Aafia Siddiqui, a Pakistani scientist convicted of shooting at two U.S. soldiers in Afghanistan. Both are jailed in the United States.

“The United States does not negotiate with terrorists,” State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland said.

Clinton stressed that American officials would stay in close contact with their Algerian counterparts.

Speaking beside Japan’s new foreign minister, Fumio Kishida, Clinton said the crisis underscored the threat posed by extremists in North Africa, where Al-Qaeda-linked militants have seized control of half of Mali and plunged the country into civil war. She vowed to enhance U.S. work with Algeria and other countries in the region to combat terrorists even after the hostage situation ends.

Video: Muslim Brotherhood, Obama Collude To Release The Blind Sheikh

By Kris Zane

The Muslim Brotherhood’s Mohammed Morsi is “pressuring” Obama to release the Blind Sheikh. Of course the behind-the-scenes is that the corrupt, Marxists/Islamists Barack Hussein Obama would like nothing more than to release the Muslim Brotherhood’s lord and savior Omar Abdel-Rahman, aka the Blind Sheikh.
