OFS does not apply to few records in awk

By chidori

Hi ,

I am having a problem with my awk oneliner , which for some reason leaves the first two records

Input File

Code:

$ cat file1
A1:B1:C1:NoLimit
M1:M2:M3:Limit
A2:B2:C2,C3,C4,C5
A3:B3:C3,C4,C5,C6,C7

Desired output

Code:

A1,B1,C1,NoLimit
M1,M2,M3,Limit
A2,B2,C2
,,,C3
,,,C4
,,,C5
A3,B3,C3
,,,C4
,,,C5
,,,C6
,,,C7

I am using the below oneliner to achieve it partially but i dont get why the first two records OFS does not change to comma
,

Code:

nawk 'BEGIN{FS=":";OFS=","}{gsub(",","n,,,",$NF);print}' file1

This gives me an output

Code:

A1:B1:C1:NoLimit
M1:M2:M3:Limit

A2,B2,C2
,,,C3
,,,C4
,,,C5
A3,B3,C3
,,,C4
,,,C5
,,,C6
,,,C7

Can someone please help me understand the problem and correct the code

Please help to fix awk script

By snysmumrik

Good morning, fellows. I would need to ask for your help in editing my awk script. Here is the original version:

BEGIN { printf (“CRYST1 200.000 200.000 200.000 90.00 90.00 90.00 P 1 1n”)
maxatoms=1000
natom=0
found_struct = 0
found_bond = 0
}
{
if( NF == 5 )
{
foundff=0
natom++
fftype[natom]=”UNKNOWN”
if ($1 ~ /CT/)
{
fftype[natom] = “C”
foundff=1
}
else if ($1 ~ /OH/)
{
fftype[natom] = “O”
foundff=1
}
else if ($1 ~ /HC/)
{
fftype[natom] = “H”
foundff=1
}
else if ($1 ~ /N/)
{
fftype[natom] = “N”
foundff=1
}

else if ($1 ~ /H1/)
{
fftype[natom] = “H”
foundff=1
}
else if ($1 ~ /HO/)
{
fftype[natom] = “H”
foundff=1
}
else if ($1 = “C”)
{
fftype[natom] = “C”
foundff=1
}
else if ($1 = “O”)
{
fftype[natom] = “O”
foundff=1
}

next

x[natom] = $1
y[natom] = $2
z[natom] = $3

if (foundff == 0)
printf(“PROBLEM : Atom ff type %s not knownn”, $6)
}

}

END {
for (iatom=1; iatom <= natom; iatom++)
{
printf(“HETATM %d %2s %d %14.9f %14.9f %14.9fn” ,
iatom, fftype[iatom], iatom, x[iatom], y[iatom], z[iatom])
}
printf (“ENDn”)
}

And this is type of file I am working with.

Adding a specified value to a specified column – awk?

By radudownload

Hi everyone!

I sometimes need to do some simple arithmetics, like adding a number to a certain column of a file. So I wrote a small function in the .bashrc file, which looks like this

Code:

shifter()
{
COL=$1
VAL=$2
FILE=$3

cp $FILE $FILE.shifted
awk 'NF==4 {$(( $COL )) = $(( $COL )) + $VAL}' $FILE.shifted
}

which should add the number stored in VAL, to the column COL from the FILE file.

Please give me a hint how should I make this work. Thank you! (I’m just a newbie in shell programing)

System function in awk

By EAGL€

Hello Friends,

I have written a script like below,

I aimed to move some CDR files (call data record) whose the last field is “1” (NF=1 ) from a spesific directory to a new directory
Field Seperator is pipe.
If the directory does not exitst i should create it.
I will give the script two arguments so i check if they are given or not

Here I have written this; Im suspicious if the below system function in awk will work or not, appreciate your opinions.

Code:

if [ "$#" -ne 2 ]
then
echo
echo "--- There are two arguments which is expected after script! ---"
echo "--- USAGE: "$0" | FULL PATH of NEPS DIRECTORY | NEW FULL PATH for INITIALLY CHARGED CDRs ---"
echo
elif [ "$#" -eq 2 ]
then
if [ ! -d $2 ];
then
mkdir $2
fi

for file in `find $1 -type f -name "*cdr*.txt" 2>/dev/null`
do
nawk -F| -v PATH=$2 'NR==1{ if $NF==1 system( "mv FILENAME PATH/FILENAME ") }'
done;
fi

Thanks in advance

awk processing of passed variables

By Mid Ocean

Currently have this:

Code:

set current=192.168.0.5
set servicehost = `echo $current | awk -F. '{print $4}'`
echo $numberoffields

5

..but would like to reduce # of variables and eliminate echo to have something like this:

Code:

set servicehost = `awk -v s="$current" -F. 'BEGIN{print $2}'`

But doesn’t work. In a similar vein how to determine NR and NF on variables passed via -v .. if possible. For example how to replace the following:

Code:

set string = "hello world"
set numberoffields = `echo $string | awk '{printf("%sn",NF)}'`
echo $numberoffields

2

..with something like this:

Code:

set string = "hello world"
set numberoffields = awk -v s=$string 'BEGIN{printf("%sn",NF)}'
echo $numberoffields

0

Would be great if it returned 2 somehow 🙂

Issues in reading file using 'awk'

By emily

Dear all,
I am using following function of some script to assign variable “JobNo” some value form file $SAMPLE”_status.log” [1] ( generated using the red color command )

Code:

crab ntuplize_crab -status -c $SAMPLE >& $SAMPLE"_status.log" &
echo $SAMPLE"_status.log" "====="
jobNo=$(awk '/Jobs with Wrapper/ && $NF != 0{s=1} /List of jobs/ && s{if(p){p=p","$NF}else{p=$NF};s=""}END{print p}' $SAMPLE"_status.log" )
#sleep 200

echo $jobNo "====="
echo $jobNo "====="

The name of the file is correctly printed on the screen and also I checked the content is fine which is [1].
Now, the execution of this script pass me the following output:

Code:

qcd120_status.log =====
=====
=====

The blue is the file name and is fine. But when I am trying to print the JobNo it only print the “====”..
And when I use the above command on the terminal it is passing me the proper JobNo which I want, should be following:

Code:

Print column postion

By sampoorna

Hi,

I am using the below code for printing the column position of a particular string

Quote:

nawk -v srch=”DName” -F ‘t’ ‘{for(j=1; j<=NF; j++) { if($j==srch) print j } exit }' input_file.txt

The above code prints the column position of the input string DName (that is 1)

Now the problem is, the above code is working fine for the data that starts from 1st line in a tab delimited file, but it is not working for files where the data is starting from 2 or 3 rd row.

Can anybody plz help.

CSV to CSV MS-DOS

By shadyuk

Hello,

I have the following script which converts some data in a CSV file from one format to another. However, I have to convert the CSV (Macintosh) file to CSV or CSV (MS-DOS) first else the script wont work. I do this in Excel. I know it has something to do with the line endings, where CSV (Macintosh) saves with CR as the new-line character, and CSV (Comma delimited) and CSV (DOS) both use CR/LF.

Is there a way to add something to the top of my script that negates the need for me to convert manually?

Code:

#!/bin/ksh

if [ $# -ne 1 ] || [ ! -f "$1" ]
then echo "Usage: $0 file" >&2
exit 1

awk '
