Post-Braun: Which Players Can We Believe And What Difference Will It Make When It Is Still Profitable To Use PEDs?

By Roger Groves, Contributor

Ryan Braun could run for Congress and win – until yesterday. He has been a MVP, a superstar performer for years with the Milwaukee Brewers. He had the manner of speaking, the clean cut look, and mannerisms that is generally regarded as, well, “All American” without any of our collective bad boy images.  These images fail us in baseball and beyond. So when Major League Baseball alleged he took performance enhancing drugs, and Braun unequivocally stated “I would bet my life that this substance never entered my body at any point” most of American MBL fans bought it hook, line and sink-proof.  It’s hard to get a denial any stronger than that. And he won his arbitration, albeit on process, not the merits of the evidence. …read more

Can Brooklyn Nets Wrestle New York From Knicks With Record $180 Million Team?

By Kurt Badenhausen, Forbes Staff

The Brooklyn Nets shocked the NBA last month when the team swung a trade with the Boston Celtics to acquire Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Jason Terry. The trio arrives in New York with championship rings, 25 combined All-Star game appearances, MVP and Sixth Man of the Year awards, as well as countless other accolades. The group was introduced Thursday at a press conference at the Barclays Center. Nets’ owner Mikhail Prokhorov made a surprise appearance after jetting in from Moscow and he made it clear what his expectations are. “I will [only] be proud when we win the championship,” Prokhorov said. “For me there is only one place: First place.” …read more

Official: GMC vehicles earn spot on Madden NFL 25's roster

By Brandon Turkus

Filed under:

In the real world, the Super Bowl MVP gets a Chevrolet Corvette. Last year’s MVP, Joe Flacco, took delivery of a C7 Corvette Stingray after leading the Baltimore Ravens to victory over the San Francisco 49ers.

In the video game world of the Madden NFL series, the Super Bowl MVP gets a 2014 GMC Sierra Denali. Why no Stingray in the video game? Because GMC inked a deal with EA Sports for the truck and SUV builder to be named the official vehicle of the football video game’s twenty-fifth anniversary edition.

The new Sierra Denali will be joined by the Yukon, Acadia, and Terrain in game, with stadium promotions for the brand throughout the season. Yes, even when you’re beating the hell out of your buddy who insists on playing with the hateful Cowboys, you’ll be seeing commercials. (Hold your keystrokes, Cowboy fans. We’re just kidding. Sort of.)

Expect to see plenty of other GMC imagery as well, with a “Never Say Never Moment of the Week” in-season feature that displays spectacular plays throughout the week’s games. Madden NFL 25 will be available for both current and next-generation versions of the Sony Playstation and Microsoft XBox, and will arrive in stores on August 27. Scroll down for the press release.

New York Knicks' Carmelo Anthony Tops LeBron James For Most Popular NBA Jersey

By Darren Heitner, Contributor

There is roughly a week left in the 2012-13 NBA season, and little doubt that LeBron James of the Miami Heat will be handed his fourth Most Valuable Player (MVP) award.  It will be his fourth award in the previous five years.  While James was busy racking up MVP trophies, he was also often sitting at the top of the NBA‘s annual top-selling jerseys list, which ranks the top fifteen most popular NBA jerseys and top ten most popular team merchandise based on combined sales at the NBA Store on Fifth Avenue and NBAStore.com from November 2012 to present.  James has topped the list a total of four times in the past.  However, this year’s title goes to New York Knicks’ Carmelo Anthony, who is currently the NBA‘s leading scorer on the court. …read more

Baseball's Highest-Paid Players On And Off The Field

By Kurt Badenhausen, Forbes Staff

Alex Rodriguez re-signed with the New York Yankees in December, 2007 in a 10-year, $275 million deal that was the richest deal in the history of sports. The consensus was that the Yankees overpaid in both years and dollars, but A-Rod was still regarded as the best player in the game at the time. He had just won his third MVP award in five years and was well on his way to breaking the all-time home run record. He couldn’t match his teammate Derek Jeter on marketability, but Rodriguez still ranked among the top 10% of celebrities when it came to likability. Those days are long gone. …read more

Magic Johnson Offers LeBron James $1 Million To Enter Dunk Contest (VIDEO)

By The Huffington Post News Editors

Magic Johnson wants LeBron James in the Slam Dunk Contest, and he’s willing to pay for it.

“I’m going to put up a million dollars. A million dollars from Magic to LeBron,” Johnson said on Friday night on ESPN’s Kia NBA Countdown. “Please get in the dunk contest. I go every year. I want to see you out there. A million to the winner.”

With a series of soaring, acrobatic pre-game dunks since the All-Star break, the three-time MVP has given fans — and Magic — a glimpse of what they’ve been missing as he’s avoided the Dunk Contest. The warm-up jams understandably led to calls for James to finally enter the Dunk Contest, causing him to threaten nixing the warmup routine altogether.

By John Johnson Before this year’s playoffs, Joe Flacco had the reputation of being an under-appreciated underdog.
