Frankfurt: Editors’ Choice: Top Five 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show Debuts

2013 Frankfurt Auto Show

Filed under:

By our story count, this year’s Frankfurt Motor Show was one of the busiest auto shows on record. We brought you more than 70 reveals from the center of the action, and are still finding and compiling a lot of other content with Frankfurt-origins as well.

With such a massive amount of raw data to choose from, picking just five debuts to highlight in our regular Editors’ Choice feature was no small job. As usual, Autoblog staffers were tasked only with awarding points to the cars and concepts that spoke to us the most – our favorite things to look at, read about and write about from the show. Said another way, these are not necessarily the most important or impressive debuts from the Messe; the winners reflect our personal favorites.

As you’ll read below, there were a lot more concept cars than production vehicles that knocked our socks off this time than in years past. Arguably the most impressive production debut – Porsche’s 918 Spyder – came close to the top five but was held back a little by being overly familiar (the danger of a super-long rollout plan). But really, this crop of conceptual metal was just superbly executed. Read our list below and then tell us where we went wrong and right, in Comments.

New York: Editors' Choice: Top Five 2013 New York Auto Show Debuts

We hope you appreciate the time, thought and care that goes into an Editors’ Choice list like this. If you think the debate that will follow in Comments is contentious, you should see us arguing over the merits of each car. We take these picks anything but lightly, as we know you do the results.

Our Editors’ Choice picks for the 2013 New York Auto Show were voted on this time around by the entire team of Autoblog editors, and we used a points-based scoring system instead of voting for a single favorite vehicle. Each editor was given 25 points to assign to their five favorite vehicles. The points could be distributed among the chosen five any which way, with a limit of 10 points for any one car and all 25 points having to be assigned.

There was no criteria to guide our choices other than picking our favorite vehicles that debuted at the show – not significance, not technology, nuttin‘. So without further delay, we present to you our 2013 NY Editors’ Choice list. Now go forth, and tell us why we’re right or wrong in Comments.

Geneva Motor Show 2013 - show floor overview

Filed under:

We’ve returned from a very busy week in Switzerland, and in going back over all of our 75 stories from the Geneva Motor Show, our editors have gathered up their personal favorite debuts from the European expo.

The wonderful thing about the Geneva show is just how wide of an array of vehicles are on display – everything from funny little one-off EVs to the most exotic of supercars to, well, truly ridiculous displays of coachbuilding. And because of that, this list of our editors’ favorites might not be as predictable as you think.

But we don’t want to give anything away just yet. Scroll down to have a look at our team’s favorites from Geneva.

Chicago: Editors' Choice: Top Five 2013 Chicago Auto Show Debuts

On the international circuit, the Chicago Auto Show often gets slighted for being a rather dull show in terms of actual news and major vehicle debuts. But the Chicago expo is still hugely important. Not only is it the largest show in terms of overall square footage, it serves as the largest consumer showcase, with the highest amount of foot traffic from consumers. Sure, a lot of what’s new here pales in comparison to all of the shiny sheetmetal we saw in Detroit last month, but it’s all still very important.

As is our tradition, we’ve picked our favorite cars of the show (personal opinions, mind you – no fancy official-type or “most important” stuff here) and have compiled them in our usual Editors’ Choice format for your perusal. Have a look below to see what caught our eyes.
