Need help with Sub Panel design

By dfry302L

Hi all, looking to understand the basics I guess of sub panel design and requirements. Have been doing homework for some time now and after reading numerous posts regarding this topic, I don’t get the feeling it is an easy process.

Here is my situation:

We had this home built 3.5 years ago…
200 Amp service to the main panel in finished garage
Want 100 Amp (future proofing) in basement, about 100′ away from panel in garage
Looked at sheet rock demo to expose walls to run that way however I think I want to run 3 – #2 CU THHN, with a #6 THHN ground in conduit on the outside of home. Run would be 15′ to 20′ of conduit before punching through sill plate to basement. Understand with THHN wire, it would have to remain in conduit all the way to the sub panel location. Want to use an Eaton type CH 100 amp 22 space panel for the sub panel, with 90 amp double pole breaker at main panel.

Have a decent load planned for the basement and I want to ensure that any future “honey do” projects will be accounted for by what appears to be a over-designed project.

Anyway, I am a rookie at best. I have attempted to do some homework on this, but after reading some spirited discussions, I am questioning my approach.

Any responses would be greatly apprieciated!!

Congress To Probe Lethal Crash That Killed SEAL Team 6 Members

SEALs 2 SC Congress to probe lethal crash that killed SEAL Team 6 members

Congress has launched an investigation of the helicopter crash that killed 30 Americans in Afghanistan, including members of the Navy’s elite SEAL Team 6 unit, The Hill has learned. [WATCH VIDEO]

The victims’ families say the Pentagon hasn’t provided answers to their many questions about the deadly attack, which took place on Aug. 6, 2011, three months after Osama bin Laden was killed in Pakistan by Team 6 forces.

Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah), chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform subcommittee on National Security, told The Hill, “We’re going to dive into this.”

Chaffetz said he met with the victims’ families about a month ago in what he described as an “emotional” gathering. He is poised to send questions to the Pentagon and may hold hearings on the matter.

Charlie Strange, whose son Michael was among those killed, said he asked President Obama two years ago at Dover Air Force Base to fully investigate. The death toll in the crash was the largest of any single incident for the U.S. military during the Afghanistan war.

Boiler Overheat

By nawogcmdivad

My Grant Euroflame boiler overheated, spewed water from the system expansion tank and the limit stat on the boiler kicked in. Its a fully pumped system with circuits for upstairs heating, downstairs heating and hot water.
I replaced the dual stat on the boiler but it still overheats.
Problem seems to be that boiler is heating when no demand for heat from CH or HW thermostats (is this normal?). As there is no pump running the boiler overheats (when I force a pump to run, the stat on the boiler works properly).
So: Should the boiler be firing with no demand from the system ?
If No then the controller is broke right?
If Yes then would something like an airlock or sludge cause the overheat?

Pentagon Hands Out $84.4 Million in Small Contracts

By Rich Smith, The Motley Fool

Filed under:

The Department of Defense announced a series of small (in defense contracting terms) contract awards to a series of publicly traded companies Thursday. Among them:

  • United Technologies subsidiary Sikorsky won the largest award, a $26.9 million firm-fixed-price foreign military sales contract to convert an unspecified number of UH-60M Black Hawk helicopters for use by the Royal Thailand Army. This contract should be completed by April 30, 2016.
  • In other helicopter news, Boeing won a $17.9 million cost-plus-fixed-fee contract to perform design and engineering work on the CH-47 Advanced Chinook Rotor Blade. This contract funds work through March 18, 2017.
  • One contract that sounds like it involves helicopters — but doesn’t — is the $7.6 million DARPA contract that UTC subsidiary Goodrich just won. In this cost-plus-fixed-fee award, Goodrich will work on Phase 3 of the “Hybrid Multi-Material Rotor (HMMR) program” — a DARPA project to develop new hi-performance rotors for submarine screws. Goodrich’s expected completion date on this work is Sept. 30, 2014.
  • Raytheon was awarded $8.8 million in a firm-fixed-price contract to replace obsolete Pulse Code Modulation (PCM) Encoders in Tomahawk missiles. The PCM Encoder samples flight test missile guidance and avionics telemetry data stream, encodes and formats the data, and provides telemetry information to ground monitoring stations. Raytheon should complete work on this task by March 2015.
  • In the day’s smallest award, International Business Machines won an $8.1 million firm-fixed-price, incrementally-funded contract to support of the Army Learning Management System through March 21, 2014.
  • And finally, Sanofi subsidiary Sanofi Pasteur VaxDesign Corporation was awarded $15.1 million to perform research and development work on an in vitro biomimetic immune system for the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA). The objective here is to find better ways to test immune responses to difference agents in the lab, to facilitate development of vaccines and immunotherapeutics. Completion date on the work: March 24, 2017.

Over the past two in-sequester days, the Pentagon has awarded a total of 42 separate contracts to various contractors, worth well over $4 billion in aggregate.

Among many beneficiaries, Boeing won a total of three contracts in two days:

  • A $22.5 million contract to perform in-the-field servicing on the U.S. Army’s CH-47 Chinook helicopter fleet at various locations to be determined later. The estimated completion date on this work is Sept. 30, 2015.
  • A $17.9 million contract to perform similar work on nondeployed CH-47 Chinooks, also with a Sept. 30, 2015, completion date.
  • And finally, a $41.1 million contract to provide for the incremental funding to support upgrades on AH-64 Apache attack helicopters to the Block III configuration, also known as the AH-64E, and nicknamed the “Apache Guardian” helicopter. Full-rate production on the AH-64E was approved in October of last year. Work on this project is expected to be completed by Sept. 30, 2014.

Twidiots: The Illuminati is Everywhere

In “Twidiots”, we collect the choicest thoughts on a particular topic from Twitter's millions of users.

During her performance at the Super Bowl on Sunday, Beyonce threw up what some may THINK was the popular sign of Roc-a-Fella, her husband Jay-Z's massive brand and record label. But according to Twitter, it was ACTUALLY the SECRET gesture of the all-seeing, all-powerful underground organization the Illuminati. What no one else outside of the Twitterverse seems to realize, however, is that the Illuminati's tentacles reach far beyond Mr. and Mrs. Carter.

And before anyone asks, yes, we here at CH are all proud members. What's up, Hov!
