THE FACTS: When a guy goes 3-for-13 from the field and dominates a game, you know the outcome was about more than shot-making, and that clearly as the case in Indiana’s 107-90 Game 1 victory over Atlanta Sunday at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. Though the aforementioned Paul George had his first career playoff triple-double with 23 points, 12 assists and 11 rebounds, he spearheaded a remarkably aggressive and energetic performance by the Pacers. Constantly on the attack, he tied a franchise playoff record with 17 free throws made. Indiana outscored the Hawks 30-7 from the line, outrebounded the Hawks 48-32 and had a 19-7 advantage in second-chance points. George Hill scored 18 and Roy Hibbert 16 for the Pacers. Jeff Teague led Atlanta with 21.

THE FACTS: The victor goes home, having salvaged a respectable finish from an otherwise miserable season. The loser moves on, hoping to find what it has lost in a late-season slump. Philadelphia closed its season with a 105-95 victory over a depleted Indiana team resting four starters Wednesday at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.

THE FACTS: Ordinarily, a home victory over Cleveland would not produce a championship-style celebration at center court, with players jumping on top of each other, hugging and high-fiving. But this was no ordinary victory. Trailing by 20 points with less than nine minutes remaining, George Hill and Paul George sparked a furious rally, combining for 20 points in a 31-6 closing run that lifted Indian to a stunning 99-94 victory over Cleveland Tuesday at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. The comeback started shortly after head coach Frank Vogel picked up two technical fouls and was ejected late in the third quarter, an incident that seemed to bring a much-needed spark to what had been a moribund Indiana performance. Trailing 88-68 with 9:04 remaining, Indiana held Cleveland to 2-for-15 shooting and forced seven turnovers the rest of the way. THE FACTS: Rarely has such a bad shot yielded better results. With the ball, a four-point lead and 34 seconds left, Gerald Green did absolutely the wrong thing, launching a quick 3-point shot. But to the everlasting relief of the Indiana Pacers, the shot went in to help preserve a wild 100-94 victory over the Atlanta Hawks on Monday at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. Green scored 19 to lead the Pacers (44-27), who were without three injured starters. Indiana built a 28-point lead in the third quarter and then watched it reduced all the way to four by Atlanta’s reserves in a wretched fourth-quarter performance that included 10 turnovers and 4-for-16 shooting. THE FACTS: Whatever was ailing Indiana, it appears the cure has been administered. With six players scoring in double figures to complement a smothering defensive performance, the Pacers steamrolled the frustrated Milwaukee Bucks 102-78 Friday before a sellout crowd of 18,165 at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. Tyler Hansbrough had his third straight double-double and fourth in four starts this season with 22 points and 12 rebounds and Paul George scored 20 with eight rebounds and six assists for the Pacers (43-26), who won their third straight game by at least 20 points. Monta Ellis scored 22 for Milwaukee (34-34), which lost for the fifth time in seven games. THE FACTS: For whatever reason, Tyler Hansbrough comes to life as a starter. Gerald Green just wants to play. The two combined for 29 points as Indiana won its second blowout in two nights, dominating Orlando 95-73 Tuesday at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. Making his third start of the season for the injured David West, Hansbrough had 14 points and 14 rebounds. Green, who returned to the rotation this week after two months buried in the bench, had 15 points and eight rebounds off the bench. Paul George led Indiana (42-26) with 19 points. THE FACTS: Kobe Bryant started but couldn’t finish, but it mattered little to the Los Angeles Lakers. Despite a scoreless 12 minutes from Bryant, the Lakers rode a combined 35 points and 9-for-14 shooting from the 3-point line from reserves Steve Blake and Antawn Jamison, 20 points from Dwight Howard and 19 from Metta World Peace to a 99-93 victory over the Pacers Friday at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. Producing just their third road win against a team with a winning record, the Lakers (35-32) recorded their 15th win in 21 games. They also pushed one full game ahead of Utah in the race for the final playoff berth in the Western Conference. THE FACTS: While the Indiana Pacers continue to wait on Danny Granger, they are welcoming the return of Roy Hibbert. The 7-foot-2 center continued his recent surge with a season-high 27 points on 10-for-15 shooting, adding 12 rebounds and four blocked shots as the Pacers rolled past a seriously short-handed Minnesota team 107-91 Wednesday at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. It was the ninth consecutive game in double figures for Hibbert, a former All-Star who struggled mightily with his shot throughout the first half of the season. Paul George battled foul trouble but scored 17 for Indiana (40-24), while George Hill added 16 with six assists. THE FACTS: Left for dead two months ago, the Boston Celtics have come fully to life. Jeff Green‘s lay-in on a high-low feed from Kevin Garnett with five-tenths of a second remaining completed an 11-0 run in the final 4:15 that rallied the Celtics to an 83-81 victory over the stunned Indiana Pacers Wednesday at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. Indiana led 81-72 with 4:36 remaining but shot 0-for-7 with four turnovers the rest of the way. Garnett scored 18 to lead the Celtics (33-27), who won their fourth in a row and improved to 13-4 since Rajon Rondo was lost for the season with a knee injury. THE FACTS: The Indiana Pacers didn’t win the Central Division, but took a giant step in that direction by surviving a 97-92 victory over the Chicago Bulls Sunday night at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. The victory gave the Pacers (38-22) a four-game lead over Chicago (34-26) while also securing the season-series tiebreaker, so Indiana has a strangehold on what would be its first division title since 2003-04. The severely shorthanded Bulls put up a fight and had a chance to tie in the closing seconds, but a turnover with less than a second remaining snuffed their final flicker of hope. David West carried Indiana with 31 points, 10 in the fourth quarter. George Hill had 11 of his 21 in the final period, but went 1-for-4 on free throws in the final seconds to leave the door open. THE FACTS: That Indiana won its fifth consecutive game, all by double figures, was almost lost in the aftermath of a fourth-quarter shoving match that spilled into the front row of spectators at Bankers Life Fieldhouse, resulting in six technical fouls, the ejection of Pacers center Roy Hibbert and possible suspensions coming from the league. With David West scoring 28, George Hill 23 and Paul George 21, the Pacers weathered a 38-point storm from Stephen Curry and wore down the visiting Golden State Warriors 108-97 Tuesday. Indiana led 95-85 with 6:10 remaining when Hibbert responded to a hard push from Lee with a two-handed shove, sparking a scrum that started under the basket and migrated to the edge of the court before officials and cooler heads prevailed. In addition to Hibbert’s ejection, Lee, West, Curry and Klay Thompson picked up technical fouls. There appeared to be no punches thrown but several players, including Curry, were knocked to the floor. THE FACTS: One of the best defensive teams in the NBA suddenly has unlocked an explosive offense, and the result has been devastating. Indiana shot a season-high 56.2 percent from the field and rolled to its second consecutive demolition job, 114-82, over the visiting Detroit Pistons Friday at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. After building a 39-point lead in smacking the Knicks 125-91 on Wednesday, the Pacers (34-21) pushed their margin to 43 points in the fourth quarter before settling for their second consecutive victory by more than 30 points. Six Indiana players scored in double figures, led by David West with 18, George Hill with 15 and rookie Orlando Johnson with a season-high 14. Detroit, which lost its 10th straight trip to Indianapolis, a streak that dates back to 2008, was led by Will Bynum’s 17 points off the bench. …read more

THE FACTS: New York coach Mike Woodson said beforehand he figured this would be an ugly game. He had it half right. While the Knicks could do nothing right, the Indiana Pacers put on a nearly flawless performance, staging what amounted to its own 3-point and slam-dunk contests in rolling to a stunning 125-91 blowout Wednesday at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. Paul George scored 27 points with eight rebounds to lead Indiana (33-21), which led by as many as 39 points and closed to one-half game behind the Knicks (32-19) in the race for the second seed in the Eastern Conference. David West added 18 for the Pacers, who took a 2-1 lead in the season series with one game remaining April 14 in New York. THE FACTS: He’d done just about everything else in this remarkable breakout season, so Paul George ticked another box on his list of things to do before the All-Star break. Indiana’s emerging young forward produced his first career triple-double with 23 points, 12 rebounds and 12 assists to spark the Pacers to a 101-77 rout of the Charlotte Bobcats Wednesday at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. The Pacers (32-21) played without starting power forward David West (scratched left eye) but Tyler Hansbrough filled the void nicely with 19 points and 10 rebounds in his first start since the 2011 playoffs. Indiana snapped a two-game losing streak and heads into the break atop the Central Division and third in the Eastern Conference. THE FACTS: The Brooklyn Nets beat the Indiana Pacers 89-84 in overtime on Monday at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. Indiana led 76-72 with 1:38 left, but missed its final four shots of regulation as the Nets rallied to force overtime thanks to Joe Johnson‘s tough driving floater with 13 seconds remaining. New Jersey (30-22) then dominated the extra session to win going away. It was the Nets’ ninth consecutive overtime win, and fourth this season. Brook Lopez was dominant for the Nets, who played without injured point guard Deron Williams, racking up 25 points and eight rebounds. Johnson scored 17 while Reggie Evans yanked 22 rebounds. THE FACTS: In all three meetings this season, the Indiana Pacers‘ hopes against Toronto came down to one last shot. For the second time in a row, Paul George missed and the Raptors escaped, this time 100-98 in overtime Friday at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. Rudy Gay shook off a cold start to score 17 of his 23 points in the fourth quarter and overtime to rally the Raptors to their second victory in four games since acquiring the shooting guard in a trade with Memphis. Indiana (31-20) blew a four-point lead with 10.7 seconds left in regulation as Amir Johnson scored twice inside, the second a buzzer-beater that sent the game to overtime at 90-all. Indiana led 97-96 with 2:05 left in overtime but would not make another bucket. Gay’s jumper with 1.7 seconds remaining put Toronto up 100-98, and George’s twisting 17-foot floater bounced in and out at the buzzer. David West scored a game-high 30 to lead Indiana, but committed costly turnovers late in regulation and overtime. George had 26 points, 14 rebounds, and five assists. DeMar DeRozan scored 22 for the Raptors (18-32). The loss snapped winning streaks of five overall and 15 at home for the Pacers. Two of Indiana’s four home losses have come to the Raptors. …read more

THE FACTS: A defensive stalwart for most of the season, the Indiana Pacers suddenly have become an offensive juggernaut. Racking up a season-high (in regulation) for the second game in a row, the Pacers knocked off their third straight Eastern Conference playoff contender by beating Atlanta 114-103 Tuesday before 12,578 in Bankers Life Fieldhouse. Indiana (30-19) won its 15th consecutive home game but finishes up the NBA‘s only back-to-back-to-back set tomorrow on the road against Philadelphia. Paul George scored 22 of his game-high 29 points in the second half for Indiana. Jeff Teague led Atlanta (26-21) with 24 points and eight assists.

THE FACTS: Two of the league’s best defensive units staged an improbable shootout Monday, ultimately determined by the team that brought the most weapons. David West scored 29, George Hill 22 and Paul George 21 as Indiana built a 14-point lead in the fourth quarter, saw it shrink to four and then held on for a 111-101 victory over the Bulls before a sellout crowd of 18,165 at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. The Pacers (29-19) moved into a first-place tie with the Bulls (29-19) in the Central Division and took a 2-0 lead in the season series with two meetings remaining. Marco Belinelli played most of the game on a sprained ankle but led the Bulls with 24 points off the bench, while Nate Robinson scored 19 with nine assists and three steals. Indiana won its 14th consecutive home game. The franchise record is 25 set in the 1999-00 season.

THE FACTS: David West won’t be going to the All-Star Game, a fact that does not sit well with the Indiana Pacers. Heat coach Erik Spoelstra may not be, either, thanks in no small part to Indiana’s veteran power forward. West put on his own personal showcase Friday, racking up 30 points on 12-for-15 shooting to lead the Pacers to their second straight victory over Miami, 102-89, Friday night at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. West scored 22 of his points in the second and third quarters, when the Pacers seized control of the game, building a 15-point lead heading into the fourth quarter and keeping Miami at arm’s length down the stretch. While Indiana (28-19) won its 13th in a row at home, Miami (29-14) saw its Eastern Conference lead over the Knicks slip to one-half game, jeopardizing Spoelstra’s opportunity to serve as the East’s coach. If Miami loses to Toronto and the Knicks beat Sacramento Sunday, New York’s Mike Woodson would make the trip to Houston. LeBron James scored 28 with six rebounds and three assists to lead the Heat.

THE FACTS: On a night when the Pistons severed their final tie with the recent past, they were reminded of the reality of the present. Tayshaun Prince, the final member of the 2004 championship team, along with youngster Austin Daye, are headed to Memphis in a three-team trade that will bring point guard Jose Calderon to Detroit. Without any of that crew, the Indiana Pacers reminded the Pistons of their 2013 reality with a 98-79 win Wednesday at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. It was the fourth loss in five games for the Pistons (17-29), who dropped to 5-17 on the road. The Pacers (27-19) snapped a three-game losing streak by winning their 12th in a row at home, where they will play 12 of their next 15 games. Indiana got double-doubles from three players: Roy Hibbert (18 points, 11 rebounds), Tyler Hansbrough (14 points, 11 rebounds) and Lance Stephenson (12 points, 11 rebounds). Greg Monroe led the Pistons (17-29) with 18 points.
