Official: BMW brings burlesque, Warhol, M1 and 6 Series Grand Coupe to Paris Photo LA

BMW has worked with Paris Photo for ten years. This year, the photography exposition lands in Paramount Studios in Los Angeles for the first time, and BMW is not only coming with it, the Bavarians are bringing the Art Car that started it all: the 1979 M1 painted by Andy Warhol. For those attending the show, there will also be making-of video of Warhol working on the car – but if you remember the mini lecture that EVO magazine’s Henry Catchpole gave on the Art Cars, you’ll remember that Warhol finished the car so quickly that the cameraman barely had time to get the film rolling.

With that will also be a series of photos of the BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe dropped into noir scenes accompanied by burlesque models, all taken by photographer Uwe Düttmann. It’s the first time they’ll be exhibited at Paris Photo. You can check out a few of them in the high-res gallery above, and there’s a press release below with more info.

Spy Shots: BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe getting Alpina treatment

By Zach Bowman

BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe Alpina Spy Shots

Filed under:

Alpina is hard at work on a new version of the BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe. Spy photographers spotted this machine out on public roads, and while the iconic Alpina wheels, reworked fascia and rear spoiler are the the most obvious tweaks to the long-nosed four-door, we’re told the machine will also boast a 100-horsepower jump over the stock 650i Gran Coupe. That should give the Alpina variant around 545 hp, just 15 shy of the ludicrous M6. We wouldn’t be surprised to find appropriate suspension and brake upgrades on board as well.

How long will it be before buyers can lay down their cash for one? No clue, but we’ll keep you posted. In the interim, dig through the photos above to get a closer look while we start saving our pennies.

Spy Shots: BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe caught again

By Steven J. Ewing

Filed under:

It’s been a while since we’ve seen the upcoming BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe out testing, but we’re sort of inclined to ask “Why?” yet again. After all, the 4 Series is what the new 3 Series-based coupes and convertibles will be called, so the idea of another four-door version just sort of seems redundant. In other words, just how different will a 4 Series Gran Coupe be from a 3 Series sedan, aside from perhaps a more rakish roofline or a four-passenger seating configuration? Probably not much, but BMW clearly thinks it can use the additional bodystyle to rake in some extra profits.

Anyway, back to these spy shots. No more of the 4GC’s skin has been revealed since the last time we saw it, but we fully expect it to share a lot of its design DNA with the 3 Series sedan, not to mention the attractive 4 Series coupe concept that bowed at this year’s Detroit Auto Show.

Powertrain options should carry over direct from the 3 Series line, so we expect to see 428i and 435i models on hand, packing turbocharged four- and six-cylinder engines, respectively. We’re sure that BMW‘s xDrive all-wheel drive will be available, and who knows, we could even get a 428d version with the new 2.0-liter turbodiesel four that debuted in the 328d at the New York Auto Show last week, or even an M4 variant.

The 4 Series coupe is expected to launch later this year, so expect to see the 4CG shortly thereafter.

2014 BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo Premiers Ahead of Geneva Launch

By Darryl

The new 2014 BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo is slated to have an official reveal at the Geneva Motor Show but as customary as the internet is with leaking official photos, we get a first look at the new 3 Series hatch beforehand.

The new BMW 3 Series GT looks to be a smaller variation of the 5 Series GT. As far as design and perception to enthusiasts, it is getting mixed reviews thus far. Sure it is well functional and we expect the same turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine and 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder to power the 3 Series GT, but does its looks have what it takes to appeal to potential buyers? Moreover, we beg to ask if something more along the lines of a 3 Series Gran Coupe would have been a more tasteful indulgence to take the new Benz CLA head on? Only time will show. BMW has released official information after the internet leak of the new BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo below.

Intelligent load area management.

The luggage compartment also reflects the car’s increased dimensions, its 18.3 cu.ft. (520 liters) of trunk space (based on European measure) outstripping that of the BMW 3 Series Sports Wagon by a full cubic foot (25 liters). The large load aperture and high-opening tailgate make access easier. Practical features – such as the 40:20:40 split/folding rear seat with folding head restraints and tilt-adjustable backrests, and the two-piece parcel shelf – underscore the functionality of the BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo. The large load area can be utilized in many different ways, allowing intelligent space management. Practical features such as tie-down points, multifunction hooks and an underfloor storage compartment make it even more convenient to use, while the LED strips that illuminate the cargo area emphasize the premium quality of the 3 Series Gran Turismo.

Design: Innovative, Emotional, Practical

The first impression delivered by the new BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo invariably centers on the striking combination of dynamic and aesthetic appeal. Attractive proportions, four doors with frameless windows, the coupe-style, gently falling roofline and large tailgate define the distinctive character it has chiseled for itself within the BMW 3 Series ranks. Powerful lines and taut surfaces sketch out an athletic body which lends the car …read more
