The name Oliwia Dabrowska holds little meaning to film buffs, but the 23-year-old’s first movie role was quite significant. Dabrowska played “Red Genia” or the “girl in the red coat” in Steven Spielberg’s “Schindler’s List.”
With Spielberg’s somber Oscar winner celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2013, the Times UK (via TheWrap) spoke to Dabrowska, who is now a university student living in Krakow, Poland, the site of her famous screen debut.
“I was ashamed of being in the movie and angry with my mother and father when they told anyone about the part,” Dabrowska said. “People said: ‘It must be so important to you, you must know so much about the Holocaust.’ I was frustrated by it all.” Dabrowska said watching “Schindler’s List” as an 11-year-old was “horrible” and the experience made her not want to ever see the film again. That changed as she grew up, however, as Dabrowska said she now understood that “Schindler’s List” was something to be “proud of.”
Director Steven Spielberg’s classic historical drama Schindler’s List will soon mark its 20th anniversary with a Limited Edition Blu-ray Combo Pack release, including a Blu-ray disc, DVD, Digital Copy and UltraViolet.
The 1993 film has been meticulously restored from its original 35mm film negative in high definition, supervised by Spielberg. The Blu-ray will feature all-new bonus content that reveals even more of the story behind Oskar Schindler, a member of the Nazi party who risked his own life to save more than 1,100 Jews during the Holocaust.
“Schindler’s List is a rare masterpiece of filmmaking that remains as riveting and moving today as it was for moviegoers 20 years ago,” said Craig Kornblau, President of Universal Studios Home Entertainment. “It stands as a powerful reminder of the heroism and humanity of those willing to stand up against intolerance.”

Leon Leyson, who was the youngest of 1,100 Jews saved from the Nazis by Oscar Schindler, has died in Southern California at 83.
His daughter, Stacy Wilfong, tells the Los Angeles Times (http://lat.ms/WUllpf ) that Leyson died Saturday in Whittier from lymphoma.
Leyson was nearly 10 when Germany invaded Poland in 1939. He lost two brothers during the Holocaust but was protected by Schindler and at 13 worked in his factory. Dubbed “Little Leyson,” he was so short that he stood on a box to operate machinery.
He later moved to the U.S. and taught at Huntington Park High School for 39 years.
Leyson rarely spoke of his experiences until the 1993 movie “Schindler’s List” sparked renewed interest. He then embarked on a public speaking career to share his story.
