Distro Watcher 0.1 (Plasmoid Script)

Thumbnail

Distro Watcher 0.1
(Plasmoid Script)
Distro Watcher
————–

Description
———–
The specific plasmoid displays the latest releases of Linux distributions and packages, as published in distrowatch.com. In order to retrieve the relative data, RSS feeds from distrowatch are being used.

Currently, plasmoid consists of two distinct views; the first displaying linux distributions, the second displaying packages. Switching between views can be accomplished using the two relative buttons.

The plasmoid has been written in QML and JavaScript.

Notes
—–
– Display depends on distrowatch.com RSS feeds. If the relative RSS change, be unavailable, etc, plasmoid display will be broken.

– If no Internet connection is available, no data will be displayed. In case of any network issue, press the refresh button so as to get a fresh instance of packages/distros as soon as network connection is available. Otherwise, wait for 60 minutes when the next refresh will take place automatically.

Dependencies
————-

– KDE SC 4.8.x or later
– Qt 4.8.x

* In Kubuntu 12.04/12.10 the following packages were installed for a proper build to take place:

– build-essential
– cmake
– kdelibs5-dev
– kdebase-workspace-dev
– libdbusmenu-qt-dev

Just Display (only for testing)
—————————-

$qmlviewer -I /usr/lib/kde4/imports /$YOUR_PATH/distrowatcher_plasmoid/distrowatcher/contents/ui/distrowatcher.qml

Installation
————-

– Unzip the plasmoid
– $ cd build
– $ cmake -DCMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX=`kde4-config –prefix` ..
– $ make
– $ (sudo) make install
– “Distro Watcher” widget is now available to add to desktop/panel.

Tested in (working properly)
——————————
– Kubuntu 12.10
– Kubuntu 12.04
– OpenSUSE 12.2

Peg Solitaire 2.0 (KDE Board Game)

Thumbnail

Peg Solitaire 2.0
(KDE Board Game)
Peg Solitaire is a free and fun board game also known as English peg solitaire or Senku.
Peg Solitaire is a board game played with pegs: in the classic mode, the board has 33 positions and 32 tokens because the center position is without form.
Peg Solitaire is to remove the pegs but only with horizontal and vertical movements.
To solve the game is to leave only one piece on the board in the center position (which was initially empty).
In the reverse modes, initially there is only one piece on the board: with the movements (jumping from one empty position to another position to get empty) tokens are added to get only one position is vacant on the board.
Web http://peg-solitaire.sourceforge.net/

changelog:
News for 2.0 version.
– Add 168 new problems to solve.
(some with default finish).
More 330 games in total.
– Add Brazilian and Polish translations.
(Thanks to Ezequiel Butzke and Jarosław Jabłoński).

– Can create new own games.

x10 Controller Plasma Widget 0.1.0 (Plasmoid Script)

Thumbnail

x10 Controller Plasma Widget 0.1.0
(Plasmoid Script)
Plasma Widget to control a X10 CM19A controller, used for home automation.

Initially panel is empty, add nodes with their corresponding adress.

This uses directly the usb interface to the CM19A, hence no other drivers shall use interface.

So I added
blacklist ati-remote
blacklist lirc_atiusb
blacklist x10-cm19a

In the directory x10, there is a file named cm19a.rules which must be installed in /etc/udev/rules.d/cm19a.rules
in order to have writing permission to device without having to mount usb devs

changelog:
0.1.0 beta
Initial version. Functional, can be put on desktop or panel.

this is very functional but I have NOT plugged yet the service and dataengine.
So for now widget do not get their information from a dataEngine, but sends directly their commands to a shared QueueManager.

Next version will have Service / DataEngine Implemented but this is a big migration design wise. This is my first widget and learning from it.

Posting this code for now as I used this widget a lot to control lighting and to help others who might be interested with the source code and writing widgets.

A page will soon be coming explaining the design once it is ironed out.

KRunner Synonyms 0.1 (KDE Improvement)

Thumbnail

KRunner Synonyms 0.1
(KDE Improvement)
This runner finds synonyms using google translate.
It supports two different syntax:

Syntax: =searchterm

→ This will find synonyms for .
The source language will be automatically detected by google.
When a word exists in different languages you can use the following syntax:

Syntax: =language searchterm

A list of all supported languages you can find here:
https://developers.google.com/translate/v2/using_rest?hl=de#language-params

Please note: If you are looking up synonyms for an english word you always have to use “=en “

Example: =en house

this will find synonyms for the english word “house”

Example: =maison

this will find synonyms for “maison”

Simple, isn’t it? 🙂

Please note that this is an early version of the plugin.
There are three main problems right now:

==== API ====

At the moment the runner uses Google Translate for finding synonyms.
But for some words Google doesn’t provide any synonyms.
So if you know a better free API please let me know and I may implement it.
Maybe in a future version dictionary.com is used.

==== Syntax ====

The syntax is not perfect especially when looking up english words.
Cause the runner it uses Google translate, there have to be a language the word is translated into.
In the default case this is english because this leads into the best results.
And because Google won’t translate english into english we have to specifie a different target language.
So the runner needs to know if the word is english to change the target language.

If you have some ideas how to make it even more comfortable, please let me know!

==== Results ===

I can’t guarantee the runner will work penfectly.
If you find a word the runner doesn’t provide any synonyms please let me know and I’ll fix it.
But please check via Google Translate wheater there Google provides synonyms!

Thanks for your help!

Kate LaTeX typesetting plugin 0.5 (KDE Text Editor)

Thumbnail

Kate LaTeX typesetting plugin 0.5
(KDE Text Editor)
This is a plugin for Kate which adds two buttons on the toolbar: “Run LaTeX” and optionally “View Output” (see first screenshot; of course you can add or remove these buttons in the “Configure Toolbars” dialog). The first button runs LaTeX (and runs BibTeX, MakeIndex, and reruns LaTeX if necessary; optionally the viewer is launched after this), the second button opens the output in the viewer of your choice. The paths to the executables can be modified in the Settings dialog (see second screenshot).

changelog:
Version 0.5 (2013-02-18):
– add “Go to next LaTeX error” and “Go to previous LaTeX error” buttons

Version 0.4.1 (2012-11-06):
– set pdflatex as the default typesetting program (instead of latex)
– let this plugin be compilable on Debian (Ubuntu, …) systems by providing our own copies of the missing header files (this is sooo dirty, but blame Debian for removing those headers); on decent systems the headers installed in the system will be used instead of our own copies
– make the plugin more thread safe
– reimplementation of the configuration panel
– in the “Messages” box, use the colors from the color scheme set in the KDE System Settings

Version 0.4 (2011-10-26):
– remove bug: when the warning about undefined citations is splitted on several lines in the log, then bibtex is not run
– focus the log text when the log panel is shown, so that the log can be browsed with the keys without first having to click in the log text
– show error message if the latex/bibtex/makeindex executables are not found
– remove bug: sometimes the latex log is not completely shown

Version 0.3.1 (2011-03-16):
– remove bug: if the “Stop LaTeX” button is added to the toolbar, then it doesn’t remain in the toolbar when restarting Kate
– remove bug: in the “Configure Shortcuts” dialog the label of the group containing this plugin’s actions is “Unknown” instead of “LaTeX Plugin”
– the “Stop LaTeX” action is disabled when LaTeX is not running

Version 0.3 (2010-07-06):
– add abort button
– don’t try to run anything if the document is a never saved new document (“untitled”)
– in CMakeLists.txt: installation paths are now the defaults specified in the KDE cmake modules
– add support for creating source and binary packages
– add French translation

Version 0.2 (2008-08-19):
– remove bug: unable to add or remove tools to the toolbar
– remove some crashes (I hope)
– add an option to automatically launch the viewer after running LaTeX
– in CMakeLists.txt: installation paths are relative to CMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX now

Version 0.1 (2008-02-29):
– first version
