Nepal parties agree on interim PM, new elections

Nepal‘s major political parties have agreed to form an interim government led by the Supreme Court chief justice and hold elections in June, likely ending a deadlock that left the nation without a fully functioning government since last year.

The leaders of the four main political parties reached the agreement late Monday, said Narayan Kaji Shrestha of the Unified Communist Party of Nepal Maoist.

The agreement is expected to be formally signed at a meeting later Tuesday where they also would finalize the election date and the makeup of the new council of ministers.

The parties want Supreme Court chief justice Khilraj Regmi to be the chairman of the council. The idea of appointing the chief judge as the head of the interim government to conduct elections was proposed by the ruling Maoist party last week because these parties could not agree on who would lead the new interim government.

Nepal has been without a fully functioning government and parliament since last May. Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai has been running a caretaker government. Bhattarai’s government has been unable to hold elections, with opposition parties wanting Bhattarai’s removal before a vote is held.

The Constituent Assembly was elected in 2008 with the task of writing a new constitution after Nepal‘s centuries-old monarchy was abolished and the country was declared a republic. The assembly failed to complete the task even after the term was renewed and finally ended in May 2012.

It was not clear how the head of the judiciary would also be given the task of executive head but the leaders said they would seek to amend the interim constitution.

The 2013 Blizzard in Scituate, MA: Notes From the Storm and its Aftermath

By Peter Kelly-Detwiler, Contributor

The power just came on at 4 PM this afternoon.  I don’t know whom to thank.  I met a crew from Longmont Texas, yelled thanks to one from New Hampshire, and saw a phalanx of trucks from Sumter Utilities (South Carolina) at the local mall, ready for action. There were Alabamans in town as well, and probably another 20 states, all helping the local crews from National Grid.  The Texas crew said this time they were lucky – they slept in a hotel.  For the five days during Hurricane Sandy, their truck was their bed. …read more

PM: Horsemeat scandal harming Ireland's reputation

Ireland‘s prime minister says the latest finding of horsemeat in products labeled as Polish beef is harming Ireland‘s reputation as an exporter of high-quality meat products.

Enda Kenny spoke before Tuesday’s Cabinet meeting to discuss the widening scandal. Food Safety Authority of Ireland scientists made the discovery last month by conducting DNA tests on dozens of beef burger brands and finding some contained horse as a substantial ingredient.

Irish investigators have pinned the problem on Polish offcuts imported to Ireland for use as filler in factory-made burger patties. Poland says it has found no evidence to support Ireland‘s charges.

In results announced Monday, Ireland says one sample of the Polish-labeled product was found to be 75 percent horsemeat.

Kenny says identifying the source is “a matter of reputation.”

Search for text between two time frame using sed

By Azher

I have log files with time stamps. I want to search for text between two time stamp using sed even if the first tme stamp or the last time stamp are not present. For e.g. if i search between 9:30 and 9:40 then it should return text even if 9:30 or 9:40 is not there but between 9:30 and 9:40 is present.
I am using a sed one liner:
sed -n ‘/7:30:/,/7:35:/p’ xyz.log But it only returns data if both the time stamps are present, it will print everything if one of the time stamp are missing. An if the time is in 12 hr format it will pull data for both AM and PM.
Additionally , i have different time stamps formats for different log files so i need a generic command.
following are some time format examples e.g.

Jan 29, 2013 8:58:12 AM 2013-01-31 06:44:04,883

One of them contains AM/PM i.e. 12 hr format and other cntains 24 hr format so i have to account for that as well.
I have tried this as weel but it doesnt work:

sed -n -e ‘/^2012-07-19 18:22:48/,/2012-07-23 22:39:52/p’ history.log

please help

Uncomfortable

By MichaelFelt

In good faith I started posting here, answering questions – not asking. Apparently others before me were not in such good faith. So I can understand your concern.

I still feel unhappy, and certainly uncomfortable when I reply and include any link to anything I have written elsewhere. I would appreciate a comment when the time comes, should it come, that posting a link to anything I have worked on elsewhere will not be a violation.

I have a long standing reputation to defend. I am not looking for special attention, and would have normally made a post like this – preferring to clear misunderstandings in a PM – but as that also is not the policy – I shall mention that I am uncomfortable once, here.

My compliments to an excellent forum and the good job you all do as a team. Please accept my apologies for any intial misunderstanding I had when you removed my posts and/or edited them (and probably took away lots and lots of bits 😮 )

Sincerely,
Michael

Pakistani officer probing PM graft charge dies

Pakistani police say an officer who was investigating a corruption case against the prime minister has been found dead in the country’s capital.

Senior police officer Bani Yamin says the body of Kamran Faisal was found hanging from a ceiling fan in his room at a government dorm in Islamabad on Friday.

Yamin says police are investigating whether Faisal committed suicide.

Faisal’s death came days after the Supreme Court ordered the arrest of Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf and 15 others in connection with an old corruption case the officer was investigating.

The prime minister was implicated in the case when he was minister of water and power. At the time, he oversaw the import of short-term power stations that cost the government millions of dollars but produced little energy.

PM hopes Ireland to leave bailout this year

Ireland‘s Prime Minister says he is determined that his country will exit its international bailout program before the end of the year and return to markets in order to refinance its debt.

Enda Kenny said Wednesday in an address to the European Parliament in Strasbourg that his government is getting its finances under control, and that lower the country’s lower borrowing rates in the markets are a sign of rising investor confidence.

Ireland became the second country that uses the euro, after Greece, to get an international bailout in 2010 when its borrowing rates rose to unsustainable levels following a banking crisis.

In his speech marking the beginning of Ireland‘s rotating six month EU presidency Kenny said that his country’s tenure “will be all about stability, jobs and growth.”
