HTC's Massive Handset Warning Is An Ill Omen For BlackBerry

By Tero Kuittinen, Contributor We have seen truly awful revenue warnings from over the past 18 months – but nothing as devastating as the one the company just issued. HTC now forecasts 3Q 2013 revenues in the NT$50-60 B range, down sharply from NT$70.7 B it delivered during 2Q 2013. It’s the context that makes this forecast so chilling. HTC rolled out a brand new, redesigned flagship model HTC One during the spring quarter. The phone started rolling out in Asia and North America during the month of March. This means that HTC had ample time to ramp up the production of HTC One during the spring – and the company should be hitting peak period during the autumn quarter, with pricing power that a relatively new flagship model is supposed to possess. …read more

Can you recommend sources where I can learn more about the Hebrew root

:)

I was wondering if you could recommend some good books or other resources to teach me more about the Hebrew roots of our faith and more about the Jewish culture and traditions during the time of Jesus and the Apostles?

Ever since coming back to God, I’ve had a strong desire to study and understand the OT so I can better understand the NT. At first I really struggled and couldn’t understand much of the OT and prayed often to God to help me learn. That is when it suddenly dawned on me that Jesus was Jewish and scriptures were written my Hebrews and I started having a strong desire to learn about the Hebrew roots of our faith.

I’ve been doing the lessons from Torahclass.com and have finished Genesis, Exodus, and most of Leviticus. Understanding more about the tabernacle, sacrifice system, feasts and priestly duties and requirements has really helped me in my understanding and I can better understand how Jesus came not to abolish but to fill to the fullest the Torah. I’m not completely comfortable with the way Torah class interprets and teaches being Torah observant but I’m learning how to be a sieve and not a sponge. I wish I could get the historical and cultural teaching without the opinions on being required to follow the 613 mitzvah etc.

I’m also half way through the book Sitting at the Feet of Rabbi Jesus by Ann Spangler and Lois Tverberg which is helping me have a deeper understanding of scripture but I wish it went into greater detail.

I would really appreciate any recommendations. I hope I didn’t ramble too much. I said all of that to try to give an idea of where I am in all of this. I love to study and learn more about God and I’m fortunate to be able to study a couple of hours each day. My family thinks I’m odd but Bible study is truly my favorite thing to do. At this point in my learning it isn’t always easy for me to find trustworthy sources so I’m thankful for any help.

Taiwan's FTC investigating Samsung for defaming HTC on local online forums

Fabricated Internet posts praising Samsung at the expense of HTC products has landed the South Korean company in hot water with Taiwan’s Fair Trade Commission.

Taiwan’s FTC said on Tuesday it was investigating the matter, and could punish Samsung for up to NT$25 million (US$835,000) if it is found to be in violation of fair trade rules.

The investigation occurs after a local site, called TaiwanSamsungLeaks, accused the South Korean company of “evil marketing” for covertly criticizing rival products through anonymous Internet users. As evidence, the site published documents allegedly from Samsung’s hired marketing firm cataloguing the different forum posts it made last year on local gadget sites.

The topics covered included a user complaining that his girlfriend’s HTC One X phone was constantly crashing, and how Samsung’s Galaxy Note phone was superior to HTC‘s Sensation XL handset.

HTC's Q1 profit sinks to record low

Taiwanese smartphone maker HTC reported a major decline in its first quarter profit, after the company was forced to push back the launch of its newest flagship phone to April.

HTC on Monday said its net profit for the quarter reached NT$85 million (US$2.84 million), its lowest for the quarter according to online financial records stretching back to 2005. The weak earnings mark a considerable dive from past first quarters when the company’s net profit consistently exceeded 1 billion Taiwanese dollars. Last year, for example, the net profit for the first quarter reached NT$4.47 billion.

HTC‘s revenue, at NT$ 42.8 billion, also came in under company projections of NT$50 billion to $60 billion.

Since late 2011, HTC has struggled to maintain earnings as it has faced heated competition from rivals such as Apple and Samsung. The company has sought to bounce back by promoting a new flagship smartphone brand, called the “One” series, while also increasing product marketing.
