Novatel Wireless Announces Software Enhancements to the MiFi Technology Platform

Advanced Software Features Will Enable MiFi Users to Stay Continuously Connected Longer than Ever Before and Download Data Faster

SAN DIEGO–(BUSINESS WIRE)– Novatel Wireless, Inc. (NAS: NVTL) , a leading provider of wireless broadband access solutions, today announces additional software advancements to its MiFi® technology platform. The company already owns key technology patents for its industry leading MiFi intelligent mobile hotspots, and now further improves the MiFi user experience with optimized power management software so MiFi users on platforms with enhanced software will be able to enjoy greatly extended usage time, and Content Delivery Optimization for even faster access to their data.

The MiFi user experience has always included usage time as a key component, and Novatel Wireless has consistently delivered best-in-class battery performance. With these new software enhancements, MiFi products are expected to deliver in excess of 50% improvement to usage time, so MiFi users will be able to stay connected longer while working, playing, and traveling without having to recharge. “Effectively, we’re able to extend the usage time on a standard MiFi 2 battery from roughly eleven hours of usage time to well over 16 hours. As a result, when these enhancements are deployed, we expect that users will be able to stay connected for up to two full business days without having to worry about recharging,” says Dr. Slim Souissi, CTO of Novatel Wireless.

MiFi users on platforms with the enhanced software features will also be able to download files over the Internet faster with MiFi models enhanced with Novatel Wireless‘ patent pending software for Content Delivery Optimization (CDO). By utilizing optimized firmware on the MiFi technology platform, CDO can accelerate download speeds by as much as 30% above and beyond the already lightning fast 4G LTE capabilities of MiFi products.
